Thread: pulling aggro packs...
Take it from the pull-master: Being a CH is the handiest thing to have for the pull. It offers very little risk to you, and is rather simple..
First, we ready our attack/follow macros for our pet(s). If the mob you're trying to pull will aid it's friends, you select the one closest to you, send your critter to attack it, but before it can even leave your side, tell it to follow. The ones "in range" of the one you sent your pet after will start attacking your pet(s), and thus chase after him until they can bite/scratch him. So, immediately when you tell your pet(s) to follow, start running away from the pack so you aren't close enough for them to wander near the battlefield and decide to take a chunk outta you. Once you are of a considerable distance away, send the pet(s) after one of the ones that is already chasing after him (a lot of times you're going to pull two or more..this can be dangerous if you don't have the right pet(s) or if you're pulling something deadly, but it's better than running up to the pack in smacking range and getting the whole lair after you.) You may then proceed to swing at this selected mob at your maximum range so that it doesnt decide to **edit** at you (as stated earlier by someone else). Once this one is dead, move on to the second one attacking your pet.
This can also be done without a pet, although it is obviously more risky. You don't need a ranged weapon..you just need to target the mob you don't want attacking you (like you would with the pet), and attack it from a long range (like you would with the pet). You will then have one or two after you, and you can run away slightly farther from the group so that they don't decide to join in. Keep in mind that you don't want to be trying this sort of thing with giant baz nitches and such (unless you're HEAVILY buffed and have a crap load of high-quality stimpacks ready), since things like this will own anyone they please most of the time.
If said creature doesn't aid its friends, then using a pet, you would send it in to give it one decent smack, and tell it to follow you. When not using a pet, a ranged weapon IS necessary to take a pot shot at it, switch really quick to your sword, and beat the crap out of it when it reaches you (this method is for aggressives who don't aid their friends). For non-aggros who don't aid eachother, no pull method is really necessary. Just run up to it and swing to your heart's content...Yay!
Note that for the above methods when using pets, a very good tanking pet is necessary if you want to bring down things that hand out hefty XP..meaning, not something like a rock beetle or a probe droid. The popular pet of choice is the graul mauler, but be sure to have lots of good stimpacks on hand if you only have ONE mauler (or two, for that matter; it's just less necessary if you have two, as you can switch the order of their commands in the attack macro, which requires them to have different attack commands, and whoever is first in the macro will take most of the damage)..the big stuff gives them no mercy. This can get really boring really fast, though... ![]()
