Thread: Fencers as Melee Tanks?

in high end pve mobs are so accurate that dodge rarely works even with cob up...

I have heard different things about Dodge. That Dodge works after something hits you, that it was a flat % rate, not being based some the attackers skills. Anybody know for sure?

The chance to dodge is based on your enemy's accuracy (and your own dodge skill of course). a simple test of this is have a pikeman try to hit you with a -50 accuracy pike, then have a tkm with their insanely high accuracy try to hit you. The pikeman will miss almost all hits, the tkm will miss hardly any at all.

As a Master Fencer, I findI make a better tank in PvE than I ever did as a Teras Kasi Master. Over this past weekend I was out with my guild hunting Krayts. I was buffed, using BE enhanced brandy with muon gold on a hotkey, in 80% kinetic resist composite and a COB macro running. I was never once killed or incapped. On the juvinielle canyone krayts I never needed a heal. On the normal canyon krayts I had to be healed 2-3 times. The giant canyon krayts possed a bit of a problem tho. I was doing negligable damage to the krayts, but that's not my role. My job was simply to keep the krayt intimidated and taunted so that I kept all agro on me allowing the heavy damage deals to do their job. Trying to do the same role as a TKM, I was always beat down before the krayts were.


Another instance to show how well we act as a tank or meat shield, was when I went with 2 of my guild mates to the Geonosian Cave on Yavin4. We were making our way back out of the cave so they could reapply their buffs when an enhanced kwi spawned next to us. As my buffs were still intact and I was in 71% kinetic resist ubese armor, I engaged the kwi and started my COB macro, and began taunting it off my guildmates. Once I had the agro of the kwi my friends made it out of the cave and buffed up. While they were buffing a second enhanced kwi spawned and started attacking me. My friends started making their way back into the cave again when several crazed geonosians spawned at the entrance and promptly killed them. They cloned at the labor outpost and made their way back to the cave. While they were making their way back a third enhanced kwi spawned and began attacking me. So here i am tanking 3 enhanced kwis. I'm doing negligable damage them since I'm not using any specials in an attempt to save my HAM. They buffed again and re-entered the cave. During the time they were rebuffing I finally died as I ran out of stim b's and couldn't get another out of the crate since I was in combat, but for a good 15-20 minutes I was in there alone standing up to 3 enhanced kwi's.


So in response to the intial poster, Fencer's make great tanks. Much better than TKM's in my humble opinion.

I'm constantly hearing how good a TKM can tank in PVE, yet as a Fencer, and having looked hard at both classes, it seems to me that a Fencer should be able to tank even better then a TKM. Sure TKM has about 20 more points in damage mitigation, but the fencer has far better dodge and melee. Or am I missing something? Shouldn't our high Dodge help a lot?


I accept that a TKM can probably killng many things faster then a Fencer, I don't mind that. I just thought that defensivly a Fencer was better. Just tired of us Fencers getting dissed when compared to TKM's.

I to have a Geo story to tell lol. To keep it short, we were doing fine till we got to the cave where the force klikniks were, and everyone started dieing off/leave etc... So only a doc/tkm, rifleman/cm and I were left. We knew we couldnt take on Acklay, much less even get TO him, so we decided to go suidicide...I destroy a rock blocking the way...and to my dismay, there were force klikniks(around 5-6, not sure) that immediately aggroed us. 3 were already on top of me, thank god my CoB macro was running, and 2 chased after my doc/tkm friend. I pulled out my vibro to reduce ham loss and spammed blind2, spin2, dizzy2, wookieroar when i could, and was amazed a minute later that I was still there. I looked at how my other friends were doing, and the tkm was gettin seriously hurt, having to heal himself almost every 10 seconds, so I told him to bring the ones he was attacking over to me. My spins and blinds aggro them on me, and soon, Im tanking 6 force klikniks. Isoon kill one, but Ihave to heal myself and be healed more often, not to mention get my mind healed by thecm. I get halfway to killing another when the CM and TKM die, and me soon after. I had to say that was the most exciting experienceI've had with blademaster lately. ATKMcould NEVER do that.


Imnot sure ifforce klikniks are thathard, but before then, I've been able to tank 3 kwis at a time as my group blasted them away. Blademaster ROCKS!!

*looks around* I'm tkm, blademaster, and master heavy swordsman heh. But I stick with swordsman for one reason: I can easily kill pretty much everything in the geo cave beforethey killme . But fencer is pretty good for tanking.

i jsut read the story abotu the tkm/dr rifle/cm friend and urself, first off, if u guys cant as a team do teh whoel cave solo you guys ahve no clue what the heck your doing down there. myself rifles/fencer and a tkm/commando bud took out everythign in the cave and th eacklay, a tkm/rifles bud of mine and myself (2 guys in both instances) took otu the ackaly yet again. its easy just INT it and INT everything, if i had a tkm/dr and a rifles/cm with me we'd soar threw the cave at an insane rate. im nto even usign phat armor eitehr 80 kinetic 60 base. not even sliced just some stuff i have my guild guy make me. but back onto the post, i tank everything in the geo lab very well. i love fencer i have doen 20 professions fencer/tka/smuggler/rifles are my fav's. Ws too but fencer and swordsman were mighty tanks ESP fencer. i had pistoleer master a few months ago and i lvoed dodge, ill never give up my 105 dodge again i normally go to the broken spawns of geonosians or imp observers, tank about 20 at a time and they keep spawning, just a COB macro and a 275 dmg stun baton by my side heh.

Awsome in pve the other day me and a rifleman friend went down to kill acklay. Well, he somehow died when we were fighting it. Anyway, the rest of the story goes, I pulled acklay to the top of the geo caves, everyone else killld it(had it to about half life before the rifleman died) and I got the useless venom for loot.

Well, our 'good' rifleman left because our base went hot. Before we did, we were clearing everthing. Then, we got to the room with the mercenaries, and some people didnt get the datapad, and...it was chaos. the group got split, everyone was dieing and the docs lost all of their res packs. I was tanking the droidekas and kwis when Boaty(our uber rifleman lol) got incapped. The killing became VERY slow at that point. to make it worse(when we were fighting the force klikniks), our cm/rifle had mind wounded himself till he died, I have no clue as to how that happened. So,it was just me and the tkm/doc...we just gave up. Fought till we died


Ohand, thatwas only my second time being in thecave(most of us it was the first), so you're right, we had no clue what we were doing.

ahhhh understandable conditons then, im a pretty good tank and guide threw there but some ppl spaz out and dont kno what the hay they are doing.
