Ok, I’ve now made Master Fencer. I’m also Master Doc.

-All Health and Action Stats are minimized (they get buffed) and Mind Stats are all around 1000.

-Have a very good set of Adv Composite

-Damage Sliced Gaffi, Stun, Vibro, etc. (primarily use Gaffi)

I’ve never really PvP’d since I started playing, but I’d like to do more of it. But I was taking on a Carbineer last night and I basically just ran around chasing him, getting shot, knocked down, dizzied, then I died. I think I hit him once.

/hangs head in shame

So basically I got kited to death. That’s fine, but is that going to happen everytime I take on a ranged profession? Should I skip those fights altogether?

I’m looking for some general PvP strategy ideas whether you’re fighting Melee or Ranged. Need help from some of my fellow Blademasters.

Thanks!

No...I very much doubt it will happen every time. This was one of those people that figured out the "secret" of killing a melee profession. We TKM's get a lot of this. Most people will just stand there and wait for you to come and beat them. I see this a lot. Then they cry about how fast you killed them.

You already know what went wrong, you're melee, he's not. Like the above poster said, most people in a duel don't really tend to run (unless you warcry2 them and they realise they can't do anything for 20 seconds, that usually gets them going). They simply stand there, trusting in their ranged abilities to take you down without realising they're not on their own turf, they're on ours. The simple way of winning against a melee fighter when you have a gun is to never let him get into range, you only hit your opponent once, because he'ssensible enough to make sure you can't reach him. There's only one way to counter this and it's not guaranteed to work, low FPS, lag and bad luck might cause it not to: burst run. When they kite, chase them 10m regularly to make them think you're gonna try it like that. Then suddenly hit burst run, you'll be on them before they realise you're going faster then they are.

As soon as you can, use lunge1 (lunge2 if you have it, I recommend so). It's a posture down from 16 (20 for lunge2) metres. That will ground them long enough for you to get into full fighting range. Once you are, youhave the advantage. You won't win the first couple battles, because inexperience means a smart ranged opponent will be able to get back up and run away again. But you'll get the hang of it with practice. Also remember dizzy. If you lunge them into kneeling, and then dizzy them, they will fall down if they try to get up. So that leaves them with a simple choice: fall down or remain in a kneeling posture, which gives you a bonus in damage.

"But I was taking on a Carbineer last night and I basically just ran around chasing him,..."

That is not a good tactic, find a place to get out of Line of sight, and dont move make him play your game.

lunge1 + dizzy... most people will change posture (and then probably fall down). If they don't change it, and wait for either dizzy to wear off or whatever, that means they're not moving and you should have a fair chance.

This is an excellent PvP information thread. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm also curious about how everyone's hotkeys are setup. Do you have a range of hotkeys specifically for combat?

Sometimes it's hard to hit Shift + F8 in order to do Lunge1, for instance.

Any ideas on an ideal PvP hotkey setup?

hiding behind a building or even in a building does not work....i did that once when i was outnumbered 1vs6+ all rifle...and they shot me through the building...i was on the 2nd floor of the building too an was getting shot to pieces. what i did was set up a macro..it follows them, and attacks....while i'm followingand they don't think i'm catching them, i hit burst catch them real fast ...and lunge and dizzy and blind and what ever else i can get in before they can get up again, warcry too while it still works....use ur stun baton if they are wearing armor, gaffi if they are not. also make sure u have a decent helm and armor that will protect u a bit as u chase them from their shots. there really should be a some sort of disadvantage for rangers who run from u shooting....it should lessen the chance they have of hitting u...and we should get some kind of catch up thing that allows us to overtake them...or even give us more range on a few of our skills. otherwise, armor up, buff, take two brandy and a muon on hold just in case....oh yes and practice practice practice ...it's the only way to learn and get better.

I have the advantage of being master brawler/master fencer. i have a couple hotkeys set up for pvp. i have a center of being macro set up in toolbarSlot12. so i am as hard to hit as possible

/centerOfBeing;

/pause 35;

/ui action toolbarSlot12;

my pvp macro can be augmented by additional attacks if needed

/follow;

/warcry2;

/1hLunge2;

/1hDizzy2;

/1hHit3;

/1hHit3;

/1hHit3;

/1hHit3;

/intimidate2;

I usually wear my be enhanced clothes with modifiers and an 80% kinetic helmet unless i am pvping against heavy hitters then i throw on a full set of advanced composite.

i hope this helps a bit.

eashi, running already makes ranged fighters much less accurate, there's a very significant difference, especially for riflemen.

As for 'a way to catch up', you seem to be under the wrong impression that a melee fighter should stand a chance against a ranged fighter that is not in his range. How can you possibly justify a melee ability to get in range without seriously decreasing our advantage at point blank? The reason we're devastating at point blank against someone using a gun is because at range we don't stand a chance. If you want us to be able to catch a kiter, you'll have to sacrifice the advantage that we get to balance our previous inability to catch them. I don't know about yuo, but that is something I'm personally not willing to forego. If I wanted to stand a chance at a distance, I would have bought a gun.

Two little tactics make things easier - I am a Master Fencer/Pistoleer.

/1 Put your target on 'Follow' and then 'Burst Run'. It gets you to them quick and keeps you on them.

/2 Centre of Balance. Put CoB in your toolbar and SPAM IT. They cannot hit you, I swear it. Pick your specials carefully and sparingly, and use your HAM costs for CoB

I just PvP'd a TKA/Heavy Swordsman in Dark City on Lok an hour ago. What I did, you can do.

That is a tough situation for all melee professions.

If you are in the middle of a field, you are pretty much SOL unless you can burst run to them and keep close.

I find that most of the time in city fights, all you need to do is put something in between the two of you and kill the LOS. This gives you the advantage and it puts the ball in their court.

1) They can't shoot you and you can use that time to try to weave your way closer.

2)You automatically know they are trying to get you in their sight.. so either run, get some friends, or dip into a cantina or something.

Anyways, most people don't run, they try to blast you thinking that if they stand still it helps their accuracy. It might help the accuracy, but it won't let them win the duel when we close in on em
