Thread: I cannot get a straight answer about the Dodge %
However how it is calculated is a mystery even to us Correspondents.... oh sure everyone has mathmatical calculations... most of them say the same thing only in different ways... but when they come to calculating numerical value of Secondary Defensive skills like dodge Block and Counter they are all widely different.
Especially after the advent of CoB.

ok this is what i have gathered -
profs that share abilities stack with other profs that have abilities -
dodge will not apply when equiping a VK because TK does nto have dodge
Ranged defense will apply however because TK has ranged defense modifiers
Melee defense will aslo apply because TK has melee defense modifiers
Am i correct in this assumption?
Yes, completely. Ranged and melee defense work regardless of your weapon equipped because they are passive defenses - so are def vs dizzy, def vs kd, def vs stun, def vs blind and other state defenses. The professionspecificdefenses that do not work when you do not have a weapon for that class equipped are:
- Dodge: fencers and pistoleers
- Counterattack:swordsmen and carbineers
- Block:pikemen and riflemen
- Defensive acuity: TKA
Right now as fencers, we're in a bit of a funk - we're not the prof we once were in pvp, but we are still useful. To be very effective as a fencer in pvp, you'll need a weapon that sets you apart, you aren't going to be able to deal massive damage with headshot3 with a run-of-the-mill T21 like a riflemen. Currently dots are what break pvp encounters, that and mind damage. f you have any dot weapons, even just a standard mind poison janta knife, stick them on at the beginning of a fight to help whittle down your opponent. A nice stun baton made with decent acklay bones and scatterhit 2 (scatter shiak) will do decent damage to a person's mind. With fencer we have great accuracy, so usually start by landing a coupleintimidates to reduce your opponents damage, stick a blind to reduce their accuracy, then either go for a dizzy/posture down and then attack their mind or go straight to scatterhit2. A fight with a fencer almost always lasts a long time, so it all comes down to who can last the longest. You're not going to deal a lot of damage, but you won't take a lot of damage either. Good luck.

Now, this could have been because of the mitigation, but im pretty sure i dropped that prior to dropping 4400 fencer. I havent noticed this kind of a drop with my regular character. I would, however say that the melee defense does NOT work with other professions on a main character. I say this because i know that i have 100 melee defense now, but if i equip a wood staff or some other weapon i hardly have and skill in, I get hit everytime. Or so it would seem. I would really like an explanation about this kind of thing. So are melee and ranged defense like dodge? in the sense that they only work for a certain profession?
That is because of your weapon toughness. Melee and ranged defense stack but your unarmed toughness only works when....you guessed it....your unarmed.
