*A very dark skinned Zabrak in a Black belted Vest with a red Belt, and aplain black skirtis meditating, his Rykk Blade flush across his knees and his eyes fixated on some point deep within the ground as you approach.*

*He does not look up as you approach but begins speaking nonetheless.*

"Greetings, so you have come. Few do, mostly asking if they can wield a lightsaber like they heard stories of Ole' Ben Kenobi doing in the Cantina. Well the answer they all get is no.

"Only Jedi use those blades if you can call them that. And neither you or I are a Jedi or we would not be here would we.

"I am a swordsman, large and small. I can teach you how to do magnificent things with blades forged by mortal hands. As for the Jedi... well... I never discuss things I know little to nothing of.

"On my Knees is a Rykk Blade, traditional blade of the Wookie. On the wall over there is a finely crafted Curved sword and it's larger two handed counterpart. In the weapon rack you will see a Vibro Axe, a Vibro Lance, and a LongDoubleBladed Axe."

*He smoothly transitions to his feet useing only his legs and toes in one motion, and indicates the data terminal in the corner with the tip of his Rykk.*

"Over there you can leave me messages while I am out. And when I'm in I will be sure to Impart all I know about our dying profession. In an age of Blasters and Starships we are a dying breed."

*Places his Rykk against his belt where an unseen magnet holds it to his hip. He then puts up his dukes and drops to a Teras Kasi Stance.*

"Some people fight with their fists picking fights in bars. We are the masters of finess, fluid movement slicing out targets into thin shreads of their former selves."

*He drops the pose and looks into your eyes*

"Remember above all things, learn to apreciate blood, because of all people we bath in it more regularly, Both our own and our opponants."

OOC:

Hey Folks, Just here to let you know that I was a Fencer/Heavyswordsman in beta and will be durring live. I'm willing to answer most any question I know the answer to and help answer ones that no one does.

Don't expect our numbers to be huge... we will be in the minority... don't expect it to be an easy path... we are far from even balance wise from the marksmen or TKA lines.

Only people have it as bad as us are the Pikemen and Swordsmen though they have some absolutly horrendously damageing weapons.

Ours is the tough path.

Lets make it great together.

PS: I would make a website for us but I'm terribly impatient with HTML and JAVA and stuff. And voulenteers to be a webdesigner for a Melee Weapon based website want to help me I'd be willing to put the time into it.

Absolutely wonderful! I'd love to play with a character as you by my side! Never been in beta, I'd love to play this class nonetheless. I only wish you were playing on an east coast server . We'll meet someday, until then, you've inspired me to further my career in this path.

Very nice, but did you have to post it three times? JK, I know the temptation to click "Submit Post" while it has already begun loading is very great.

Well if I had to pull one question while I'm waiting for the servers it would be: Can we survive against range attacks long enough to get close?Okay maybe two questions. How are we compared to the Tera Kasi artists you mentioned in terms of martial prowess? Just a few questions I'd like answered. Either way, this path is for me! Thanks in advance.

Hey, im planning on being a fencer on starsider (name Bradford Nox), already have some xp towords intermediate one-hand sword Specialization! One of the major reasons I choose to become a fencer, is because I knew we would be in a very unique profession. Minerunner, I've got some questions for you, what are the pluses to fencing, what weapons should I try to get my hands on, how balance is this profession compared to TKA?

Heya Mine,

I was in beta too, but as a Master Marksman/ Combat Medic named Raama'li Vara (on Ahazi, then Corbantis, then bloodfin.)

I've decided to take a different route with Sul.

I am working to become the best Smuggler/Fencer around.

My questions are these:

I took Fencing in College. Are there any one handed rapier/foil type weapons, or are they all thin one handed slicing swords?
I really would prefer an Errol Flynn Swashbuckler/Musketeer style than a roman gladiator or English knight's hack n' slash technique.

If I only have the skill points for one type of Melee weapon and unarmed, should I go with the one-handed or two-handed?

An Axe doesn't fit my character's profile. Few spice smugglers carry battleaxes. Will it be difficult to gain sword exp as a novice?

Any input on this would be GREAT! I'll check back, but you can also find me on Chilastra. Just /tell Sul if I'm online, or shoot me an email!

Can we survive against range attacks long enough to get close?

Well, that would take a long answer. I played all the way up to Master Fencer in beta. I was going to write a long guide for the class but haven't gotten around to it yet. Here's a quick answer.

It depends on what you are fighting. If you are fighting a ranged user in the open then forget it. Unless you have some ranged ability you’ll be dead. If you are talking about NPCs then you’ll still need ranged skills if they are in a group. Get a pistol to pull with. Once you get them separate, then use /onehandlunge to get them down and then use whatever specials you have to do damage.

This class is not easy. But, maybe that's what you want I know I always pick the tough ones

I’d write more but it’s crunch time at work and I have too much to do. Maybe, I’ll do that guide this weekend.

Fencer is kind of a misnomer for the class Sul, it's more just the catchall I can use it with one hand melee weapon profession.

Are there Fencing foils or Rapiers or Sabers?

Not at this time, there should be but given the total lack of skills asosciated with those, Parry, Counterattack being primarily lacking, Those swords would be realistically useless.

Now there are 2 handed sword line weapons that aren't axes... well is one... the Two handed Curved Sword. Matching the one handed curved sword.

Which by the way are realistically just a Dai-Katana (Twohanded Curved Sword) and Katana (Curved Sword) visibly.

Incidentally the sword moves for each look eastern in fluidity.

Now it's true we are seriously lacking in visible (appearance differences) weapon choices... but most of us from beta are accepting of that and just waiting till the day they actually start putting in more weapon choices for us.

On aproaching a Ranged fighter from a distance.... three basic questions to ask.

PC or NPC

Open Ground or City

If PC is he aware of you...If PC Aggro or not

Here is the breakdown

PC Open ground aware of you : Not a chance in hell unless he's just starting out.

PC City Aware of you: you have a shot useing buildings to cover your approach

PC Open ground unaware: Possible not likely.

PC City Unaware: he's all yours.

NPC Open ground Aggressive: Yes but better be able to kill him quick, and be ready with lunge to open to force him to switch to melee.

NPC City Aggressive: Same as Open but better chance.

NPC Open Non aggressive: He's all yours

NPC City Non Agressive: He's a dope kill him.

PC Ranged fighters get really tough to approach after they hit <skill> Specialist

Masters of their specific Skills such as Master Pistoleer will kill you without a second shot.

Only solution is to prat for distractions in PVP, or make them.... faction pets do wonders in this as they aggro him and make them his first target.... he then has to manually switch to you when you run in to decapitate him.

Sorry for the delay tried posting this stuff much sooner but board was futzing up again.

Sheesh. Didn't realize this was going to be so **edit** hard! I'll work on it, but I wish I knew where I could get a sword from a vendor... I'm guessing we have to wait for swordsmith PC's???

Thats right...

First "Sword" comes at Novice Weaponsmithing, with Curved sword one up the melee smithing tree, then Vibroblade and Curved sword then Rykk I think.

You know, I didn't really consider fencing as an enticing option when I started my first characters. True to formmy first character is aMarksman working towards a sniper certificate.. but now that I read this post I think this could be a profession I could get into. Perhaps a dual major in Fencing and Brawling (with a little in Marksman). What server is everyone on so I can find a fellow fencer?
