Thread: I want to be a nerd profession again!
I've seen people complain that we aren't the 'nice' and 'friendly' and 'tolerant' community that we once were.
Well..... in answer to that,much of whatI've seen recentlyis complaint aftercomplaint about our weapons not being 'cool', and post after post where people boast and brag about their accomplishments (most of them while super buffed up). Or inquiry after inquiry about who does the most damageThing1 or Thing2.
Personally, I am seeing thisprofession turn into what a very wise TKM described (when speaking of his own profession) another "bounty hunter of melee weapons".
I hope this is a temporary situation, and we are returned to 'nerd status' toote suite. (sp?)
Am I a snob? If you say so. However, I was drawn to one handed because I studied rapier for years- when I joined this board my choice was fully validated because it lacked the rampant ... well.... adolescent 'bravado' so apparent on the other melee/ranged profession boards.

I think the devs are to blame, that $&@*! Jedi system that is forcing tons of power gamers to be fencers has prementlyrount this profession.

I have news for you. The DEV's are responsible for everything that's wrong with this game.
Everything that's right too.. but we rarely talk about that do we?
Well I'm proud of my acomplishments with my Fencer having played one since Beta, And when I'm proud of something I like to share...
Now as for being proud of being super enhanced and doing something cool, well hey there are alot of things that are totally impossible without having 2-3kHam, And if we can acomplish it while holding a 1handed melee weapon we should be proud and proud of eachother.
If someone can solo a Krayt while actually Tanking it we should be happy for them. Regardless of what they had to ingest or shoot up with or be enhanced to do it. Krayt were once the perview of only Master Ranged fighters and then only with Huge Pets.
But we got somewhat ballenced... and can now actually enjoy acomplishments of that level.
Personally I enjoy walking into a room of a dozen or moreStormtroopers and killing all of them in less than 10 seconds. And thats only useing one sip of breath of heaven.
Being a friendly community is about being proud of eachother's acomplishments and answering eachothers questions... it's not worrying weather or not we are becomeing "Uber" so much as happy with our place.

Its good people are sampling professions. Even if its because of a Holo. Part of the beauty of this game is that you are not penalized to bad for switching around. Adds alot more playability to the game. I sorta stumbled on fencer and love it and plan to keep it for a long time. If you want to be something rare become an image designer or chef. As things get more and more balanced over time in the combat classes there will be an increased number of people intending to master something for fun rather than dabble the flavor of the month.
I hope we get more fencers. More fun to fight other fencers.
Agreed it's fun watching two Master Fencers hop back from each other a dozen times in as many seconds.
Well Minerunner... imo there's a world of difference between being 'proud' and being a braggart.

True, proud would be a great example of Minerunners post in the first days of Live SWG, hailing all new Fencers to the this truely great proffession.
While simply posting pictures of soloing greater Mobs of death is plain and simple bragging.
I have 2 accounts, never used a Holo and chose Fencing because I wanted to be different from 99% of the other melee classes..
I also chose doctor as a way to make money and not have to pay for my own buff's..The fact that I post pics of my battles is my own bizz and for others to enjoy that think along the same lines as myself.
I could post threads about soloing red con mobs and hope you all believe me, but coming from the bh forums where the proof is in the pudding, screenies are usualy the way to keep flamers off your thread.
Here its a totaly different scenerio.The fencing community was used to having a proffesion all to there own where only a fewhundred if that ever bothered to lvl up to Blademaster...
Times have changed, Holo's are forcing those that wouldnt have ever given a second thought about fencing to master it...And then theres a few out there that want to be different yet still hold their own in pvp, so they ask questions and expect curdious replys.
Unfortunetly, the veteran fencersarentto curdious and newbs often find their posts one-stared right off the main page..

Exactly there is a difference between being proud and being a braggart, just like there is a difference between being proud and being "l33t", it's about the same difference as well.
I'm not Uber, I'm just darn good at what I do.

Stop being so judgemental. "Vet fencers arent curdious" ? I really let out a laugh at that one. Yes my post was somewhat directed to you, because ATM you are a prime example of someone coming on the boards and bragging of skills.
FYI, at the moment I am a 4-4-4-0 doctor, master brawler, and 1-4-1-3 Fencer and yes i can solo any NPC mob in the game. I have taken out the Janta Caves by myself, lord nyax base by myself, Taken out DJM's initiates, and in a town I can survive PvP overt for a long long time.
Point being, we know how effective a Doctor - Melee is, and the fencer community especially amoung the 'vets' are well matured people who dont need the 'proof' that others seem to dwell on. I personally dont care if you post everyscreen shot under tarnation, and honestly I havnt looked at a single pic you posted.
Why? cause I know a doc-melee can do what you claim, but the 'way' you post it is in braggart format.
The attitudes just floor me.... Like asking the same question over and over and over again.... I find it so.....*odd* that these people think it's everyone's 'job' to answer their inane questions - when the answers are, more often than not - on the same **edit** page!
