I don't do PvP. I'm currently working my way up the Fencer tree, and I'm also working up the Doctor tree. I've never warn armor before because of the high HAM costs.

Was hoping for some advice from the experts regarding whether I should invest in a good suit of armor. And, if so, what kind? Padded, Ubese, Composite?

Good timing as I have just done a little experimenting this weekend. Sorry I dont have hard numbers here but I dont care about hard numbers. I care about staying alive.

Adoctor friend and I went to Lok this weekend to check our wheat harvesters and we found another Giant Kimo nest. I told the doc to stay far back and do not heal me. I just needed revives for this.

With perfect health and no armor, I was incapped and slain almost immediately with 2 hits of over 700 pts apiece. I never had time to get in a heal and CoB didn't help awhole lot withhits like that. Doc dragged me far away and revived me. Kimo stopped bleeding so I put on mycomposite, finished him off and waited for the next spawn.

With a full doctor buff of 6 stats, I came close, but was still incapped and slain after using up all of my mind twice (zabrak equilibrium)to keep myself healed. Too much damage to deal with even with buffs. Doc dragged me far away and revived. Kimo stopped bleeding. I put on my composite, finished it and waited for the next spawn.

Full health. Full Composite. No buffs. No Problem. Mind bar never went past half. Total Pwnage. One dead giant kimo. Armor was soaking up 700+ pts of damage per pop.

Did not bother with buffs and composite. I didn't see any need to. Armor Rules.

So later, I was using my other character on Dantooine. He's still a newb but he wears a full suit of 65% Kinetic resist Ubese. I was not buffed andI was handling huurton howlers, stalkers and huntresses for 2000 - 3000unarmed XP a pop with ease while harvesting their great hides for my shop at the same time. I finished unarmed 4 and Rrokk is now a Novice Smuggler. wo0T!

Armor rules. Not Buffs.. Not Pets... ARMOR!!!!!!

I would suggest a high kinetic resist Ubese. I've seen 75% resist with krayt enhancements. Great for fighting against other melee creatures or fighters. Otherwise, it's composite all the way for me!

I use a set of Composites, although I can only use Helmet, Chest Plate, Gloves, and Boots. These are excellent with any type of enemies. Kinetic Resistance may not be as high as Ubese, however, not all mobs go at you with kinetics. I can take hellova hit with these.

And, of course, the aethetics. I look good with Composites. You can't make me wear that ugly Ubese Helmet even over my dead body.

Probably you can come up with a set using both composite and ubese components.

I've experimented with both really good composite, (65% on everything, 67% on the helm, sliced with the good old impossible-to-get 47% encumb) and 65% Ubese. In my personal opinion, I die more often with armor then I do without. It doesnt make sense, but it happens.

I like doctor 's buffs and dancer buffs when I can get them, but mostly I use my trusty Greater Sludge Panther for distraction and that's it.

Of course I am talking about PvE. I take my helm with me to the PvP battles.. for the eyeshot thang....yea. I look silly with just the helm on.. but I usually live.

I love armor. I don't wear a full suit but always wear the gloves boots bracers. I have the chest leg and helmet hotkeyed. This is composite stuff.

It makes a huge difference tho its really expensive and I'm not looking forward to getting it replaced once the decay finally gets it bleh.

If you go solo, composite is a better choice (you cant force all the mobs to switch to melee) and if your limited on your money composite is better, has more applications..

I have found few mobs who actually have armour penetration, and when they do composite still has pretty good protection.

For example, 40% composite 75% ubese

mob does 1000 damage no armour piercing kinetic

50% base because of the no armour protection (i love that part)

so thats now 500 damage

Composite will block 200

Ubese will block 375

so thats 1000 down to 300 or 125

makes a difference... just make sure to use COB before you put your armour on, saves you like 200 ham

As a matter fact, I do think so. I have been around since the golden days of the clone fever long time before THE PATCH. Almost every hours was a good hour to die or at least to get incapacitated. Oh boy! I think I spend at least 30% of the time looking at the floor. (So while I waited, I developed this weird sense of fashion. )

Going back to the issue at hand, I still like composites. Most often my opponents likes to kite me a little before going down to hand-to-hand. And I must tell you they can do fan-shot or whats-that-mind-shot-thingie at me. I would rather have 50% kinetics and 50% acid/energy/heat.

Another thing, at master level, with few know-hows, you can get away without having to wear armor. However, I found it is like more likely to get "wounded" without armor. So I think it is a good practice to have armor around just in case.

I am harder to kill with my armor on. If you find it different, you might using specials too often ... Then again I do use specials very often although sometimes complement my norm attacks. (For some cases, I can spam Hit3 till the guy go down. My HAM drops to 50%, but the hostile is dead and gone.)

I don't think it's a mustto waer an armorfor a fencer , it depends ...

well I'm actualy a master brawler and doing fencer now .... I got a 70% kinetic Ubese armor , i like it .-)

grate for pve against mobs , not npcs .... in pvpu need some composit 80% acid protection helmet and stuff like that

but theres one problem , the mob is intimidated doing 20 dmg or something and every second i do 101 health dmg to my self cause of styles *g*

well i got meditat 4 from tka line , power boost ist just grate .) my ham bar is at 1.35k health and action and 1,65k mind :-p

so i can delay a mob for 20 seconds and KD ist , and i can geht big hits in , often its dead befor it stands up .... so i didn't need armor protection ...

sometimes it do not work and then its grate to see the litle damg u get ....

or ther are more then 1 mob, then its good to have armor

so i think its a must to have an armor , use it when its needet .... a macro is simple for it =)

composite is bad for melee get ubese if u want armor and dont be one of those fools who wear adv comp and use a graffi baton against armored kenetic opponents, composite kills your ham you would need a low ecumbrance set to make it useful..go with ubese

now maybe it's just me, but here is my 2cents

I play on bloodfin and I wanted some High Ken armor with a low HAM cost... after some nice research I came across KID. KID is a master armorsmith and was able to make me a KICK ASS suit of ADV chitin...I have only like 57% Kin but that is still 57% and I think I have 17% on everything else... the biggest point is I have a FULL SET of Ubeese the same way... the HAM diff between the 2 is ASTOUNDING and the extra 10-15% diff is easily made up for with a Mk 3 Personal Shield....

in short ADV chitin LOW HAM all the KE.... backed up with a personal shiled for laser slinging MOB'S= Roxor your boxors

the rest other secondaries are 500/ 400 on both str and action and I think 600 on the main pool

if I really want to SPAM like mad I just Stim pack and Muon gold my way thru anything

Armour changes things from worrying about the damage from the creatures to worrying about the damage from your specials.

And what type? Ubese is only good for kinetic, padded is best for looks..

Composite is more practical because it protects you against way more damage types. That, moreso than the percentage, is the important thing, because you get a 50% bonus to your armour stats most of the time anyway. (if your fighting an animal w/ no armour piercing its damage is first reduced by 50% THEN by the percentage, IE: Crappy composite (30%)is better in most cases than an armour that protects 70% against one stat and 0 is most others)

That 50% really helps. It adds up. Also it is a must to get yourself an armour equip/unequip macro so you dont have to wear your armour all the time. (you basically dont regenerate with it on)
