Thread: Is Armor a must for Fencers?

So later, I was using my other character on Dantooine. He's still a newb but he wears a full suit of 65% Kinetic resist Ubese. I was not buffed andI was handling huurton howlers, stalkers and huntresses for 2000 - 3000unarmed XP a pop with ease while harvesting their great hides for my shop at the same time. I finished unarmed 4 and Rrokk is now a Novice Smuggler. wo0T!
Armor rules. Not Buffs.. Not Pets... ARMOR!!!!!!
I would suggest a high kinetic resist Ubese. I've seen 75% resist with krayt enhancements. Great for fighting against other melee creatures or fighters. Otherwise, it's composite all the way for me!
What were you using for a weapon and styles?
The reason I ask is that I fight almost exclusively on Dant killing pickets, rebels, and huurtons. I'm a human and have my stats migrated to 400 for all health and action stats. 1000 mind and 900 focus and willpower or something really close to that. I'm almost always fully doctor buffed due to the abundance of docs in my guild. yet I still die too often to the huurtons due to mind damage. I put on a 67%ish kinetic resist composite helm when my mind bar is down to 3/4.
I'm 0-1-0-1 Fencer using a dmg sliced Curved Sword 243ish max damage. I use blind, lunge1, health hit1, and then spam one-hand hit.
What should I do differently? Don't use styles? Pick up a gaffi stick or stun baton (as almost everything on dant is vulnerable to stun)?
Thanks for the tips,

There you have it. Ubese is only good for kinetic.
From what I can tell, the majorityof the creatures andNPCs in the game have melee attacks as their primary attacks or are brawlers.Almost all of those attacks are kinetic or stun. The minority willusually switch to melee when you get close enough anyway or they will kite you around for a while but will eventually come into melee range and put up their dukes unless they are a droid. This has been a major reason for so many pets in the game. The ranged guys have hollered since dayone about all the MOBs being melee and therefore they use pets to hold them off.
It all depends on what you are doing.
I do not care about PVP eitherand so far, this Ubese has impressed me way more than I ever thought it would. I'm glad my armorsmith convinced me to try it.That one good stat is really all I need for what I'm doing and it works great. The only piece I ever have to take off to regenerate is my helm. That goes for either suit.
If i was fending off lightning shots, lasers, grenades, rockets and flamethrowers, then yes I would want composite. As it is now, I'm only fighting beasties and Ubese is wonderful for that. It's way cheaper too.
johni: well that was for fast unarmed with my smuggler guy. not really any styles. just using avibroknuckler with berserk and letting the armor and a few healsdo the rest. I'm Zabrak though so mind regen really isnt a problem. If it does get down,I take my helm off for a few seconds and hope whatever Im fighting doesnt mind hit me while it's off. I've got a composite helm that I will swap out my Ubese helm for. The composite actually has less encumbrance then the Ubese does right now since I havent had the Ubese sliced yet.
Hi,
I don't have that serious HAM problems you speak of. I mean you guys have no problems with health and action with stim-B's right? And you can take muons for emergencies. Given that I don't fight something ridiculously powerful like a Krayt Dragon, I think you can go far with couple stims and a muon.
At master level, I can take up to 3 white cons without any stims or muons. I start using muons if I get more than 3 or anything above yellow just to be on the safe side. (I can take a single non-armored red con, a plains hunter, with no muon but I gotta use 1 stim.) I can deal medium-armored mob either by going full tanking mode with whatever armor I got keeping specials toDizzy/Blind/Bleed only or by staying the heck away from them. I found the latter to be an excellent option under some circumstances.
I suppose agood thing to do is to find a set of both kinetic-dominant armor for hunting and all around armor. It would be unwise to get attached to either. Also, supplementing the vulnerability with shield may be a better choice. I should have tried that out sooner. (I happened to like the way chitin looks on meas well.)
However, I maintain that HAM cost doesn't kill you if you are mindful of their rate of decrease and supplement the temporary disadvantages with proper chemicals. If one can simply dish out most HAM expensive skills without any care, then it would be no challenge at all. It isn't all that hard to doanyway. Also, note you must pick your opponents because we are very or perhaps toospecialized. It is a mixed blessing.

The problem is, if you enjoy dueling (like many of us do) the rules usually involve - no healing. The HAM costs, are killer.... literally.

well it's kinda hard to say. I've got 2 guys. One wears composite and one wears ubese. One is a multiple brawler class master, one is newb. I never wore armor at all until I made it to Blademaster. I always thought the ham costs were not worth it.
I've since changed my ways. I believe in the power of armor. To me, it is well worth the encumbrance costs because I have ways of making up for them.
I dont PVP with either of my characters. I have in the past, but I'm done with it now. I can name 50 other games with better PVP than this one.
For PVE..... man honestly.... I dont really know anymore. I killed a Kunga with 11K ham yesterday near one of my harvesters. I was using my Novice Smuggler guy. He has pistols 4 and unarmed 4. I was not buffed and the ubese just soaked up everything he threw at me. I mean....that character isstill a newb and he beat an 11k ham Kunga!!! Of course I have a pre-nerf, krayt enhanced, sliced and powered up FWG5 so that had a lot to do with it but still.... the armor man. It rocks!
So once again it all depends on what you find yourself getting into. Every single person and situation is different. If you fight mainly melee types of creatures and very few ranged, Ubese is great for that.
If you are doing faction missions and fighting lots of NPCs and ranged guys or fighting the biggest beasties in the game, composite might be the way to go.
Another guy suggested some high kinetic chitin. if you dont mind wearing a rock beetle, that might work out ok.
Others dont use it at all. as I said, I never touched the stuff until after I got Blademaster and wanted to go after bigger beasties.
I know that full suit of advanced composite sure kept Rro alive last night when fighting those half a dozen Giant Canyon Krayts with 24K ham apiece. Looted a nice set of 7armor components to go into my next suit. ![]()
Hi,
Get both. Credits arefairly easy togatherandare for spending anyway. I heard you can get an entire composites for 200K and Ubese set for 100K. I think 10-20K per a comp piece and 5-10K per a ubese pieceI think. I got my first set of composites (only 4 pieces) doing delivery missions. It took me few days.
I used Adv Chitin in the good ol' days before all my armorsmiths went ballistic with composites. Haven't using chitin for few months and I don't know how good they are now. But they were very cheap.

=/ That kinda helped, but it kinda didnt. FIrst part of your post made me want to get Ubese... then twords the end it made me want composite... Anyway, i found and armor smith onmy server who has adv. kinetic composite armor with 79-80% kinetic resist, and then i looked at the ham costs, and i was amazed to see 80's low 100's all across the board on most of the peices(unsliced). I'll probably go for composite, but if not then its definatly Ubese. Thanks guys.
Holy crap!!!!! 100 encumb on kinetic enhanced composite pieces? Is that somekind of loot enhanced armor or what cause I have never seen anything close to 100 encumb let alone 80. I'm on gorath by the way.
The 2 enc that deal with toher body parts (example, on a chest peice, action and mind enc are usually lower than the health) are aroun 80-90 and the high enc on the main HAM pool (health, for chest) Is around 100-140 (unsliced) Except for the helmet which has the usual high HAM Costs. The only bad part is the armorsmith wont respond to any of my /tells ![]()
