Thread: Do Fencer and Pistoleer Dodge skills stack?

I was thinking about a combination of MFencer and Pistoleer 4/0/4/1 for the dodge and knockdown skills, but have since seen a post that said that the Pistoldodgeonly applies if you are holding a Pistol.

I believe ranged and melee defence bonuses stack from multiple professions but I am unsure on the KD and dodge skills.

Does anyone know if the dodge bonuses from Pistoleer and Fencer stack?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Any skill modifier that does not have a weapon type listed as part of the name (such as "melee1hblahblah", or "One-Handed-blahblah") stacks with those from another profession. You'll note that Offensive skills are usually limited to the specific weapon, but Defensive skills usually are stackable. This is part of the reason why Accuracy mods are so high in a single profession (non-stacking), and why Defense is relatively much lower (stackable).

That's what I had always thought, but after reading the pistoleer's post on dodge they commented that they didn't seem to dodge after they removed their pistol which made me doubt it.

Thankyou for the quick answer.

Does that include pikemans block, swordsmans counterattack and TK's defensive acuity?

That would be my guess, but since I do not have signifigant ammounts of anything but Dodge I can only hazard a guess to say that...

Since I can Counterattack naturally on occasion with a one handed weapon, and I can block occasionally with a one handed weapon (rare in both cases compared to dodge or miss) that their modifiers do stack.

It's just that my dodge is so high compared to the others that I assume the process is.

Weapon Accuracy + Random Number <compared to> Defence Mod + Random Number = Miss/Hit

If hit then

Weapon Accuracy + Random Number <compared to> Dodge Mod + Random Number = Dodge/Hit

If hit then

Weapon Accuracy + Random Number <compared to> Block Mod + Random Number = Block/Hit

If hit then

Weapon Accuracy + Random Number <compared to> Counterattack Mod + Random Number = Counter/hit

I would assume that Defensive accuity adds to Random number in some fassion on the defenders side, weather a multiplier or simply added number.

But in any case if one of those three special defences is higher than the other you would rarely see any other type of special block other than your primary special mod. IE Block for Pikeman Dodge for Fencer Counterattack for Swordsman....

Incidentally if I were a Swordsman I'd be crying to high heaven that they actually have a counter attack happen when you counterattack a blow. As it stands you do not get a actual counterattack you simply block and it says you counter.

Or rename it Parry

With so many dodges, I assume the TK's defensive acuity would be quite nice to have. Even though it's in the combat xp tree.

Much to my disappointment the Pistoleer correspondent seems to have proved that defences do not stack.

as an interesting sidenote:

The test from the pistoleer forum are right except in one point:

The dodge Modifiers do stack. They only work when carrying either a one-handed weapon or a pistol as it seems, but they stack. The skill modifiers list shows an overall score on my character and i realised increased dodge rate, when i increased the dodge skill of either profession.

It is still strange, but it looks like they stack as long as you use a "dodge" weapon.

Ah my mistake, what he has shown is that when removingyour pistol the KD and Dodge defences are removed, however this may not happen when switching to afencer weapon. He says he is unsure on that.

Although I would still find this very limiting, I plan on using other weapons to get people to stop moving, I don't enjoy getting kited forlong periods of time.

I would have thought that if pistol/carbine accuracy/speed can stack when combining the skills from carbineeror pistoleer with BH then I should be able to receive Fencer defences while I use a ranged weapon to get my target to stay nice and still for me while I close the gap.

From noules tests, ranged defense+meelee defense do stack, and are not dependent on weapon....

However, no one knows about dodge, and state defenses....The current theory is they are weapon specific...

IE Pistoleer+Fencer, if you have a sword equiped you only get the fencer KD defense, if you have a pistol equiped you only get the pistoleer KD defense...

If anyone can test this, I know both professions are wanting to know...

I use TKA aside from being a Master Fencer. Since the patch I have never, to my knowledge, dodged an attack while using TKA, though I do it constantly with a sword out. Take that for what it's worth.

All defense moves are related to the weapon being used. For example a pistol / carbineer will never dodge while holding a carbine, she'll counterattack. And she'll never counterattack while holding a pistol, she'll dodge.

A pistoleer / fencer will dodge more if she's using a pistol or one-handed weapon.
