crowd control damage dealer sounds good to me.. Im really starting to like the idea of carb/fencer it will be the second template i try. I am a rifle/fencer now so i will give that a go first..

If you really want crowd control, pikes will be best at it. Fencers, according to the diagram, are just sort of good at it. As a matter of fact, we'll be sort of good at a few things. That might be nice, as we're not cornered into one role, if you like that sort of thing.

That's what has attracted me to fencer, it seems like it will be the most versatile proffesion post CU which will be able to fulfil almost any role depending on which other skills are taken. It seems like there will be alot of variety between those who play fencer as their "primary" combat proffesion which could give fencers a big advantage in PvP - I would expect it would be harder to second guess our abilities.

So, serious question then. If you're attracted to the versatile role, why weren't you in a profession that was more versatile before? Pre CU, fencers dealt horrible damage, and had minor dots compared to other profs. Also, our states weren't special compared to most melee templates. It can certainly be argued, but I thought our best attribute was standing in against an opponent and wearing them out by taking less damage than them, and I don't see that as versatility.

My point all along has been just that. I liked that. Now I don't get that unless I change templates. As a matter of fact, go check the pikes forum.. they're complaining about the complete opposite. There are a few saying they like the new idea of crowd control and defenses. But I wonder then why they weren't fencers in the first place. Our roles have merely switched.

My current template is TKM/ID/Merchant so quite different from a fencer.

Post CU I plan to drop merchant and hopefully spend the extra SP in brawler skills. I'll be grinding out fencer until the CU hits TC when I'll spend all my time there til it hits live. Might reroll when it does, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it mind you.

My main reason for no longer persuing a versatile template is that grouping isn't too common anymore so I just took up a single combat proffesion and chose TKM because of the meditate line really.

When grouping was more commonplace I used to have some melee, some ranged and some medic skills which I really enjoyed. If I decide to drop ID I'll probably take some ranged skills and depending on what is in the medic tree I might take that, especially if there are some limited CM abilities there which it seems there will be.
