Thread: Long gone are the days of melee combat...
LEARN IT CAUSE IT CHANGED!!!! You wanna act smart then be smart. I have still YET to get beat by a long ranged that could outright beat me while I can slaughter them!

lol, yeah learn how to play a melee toon, right.
Ppl have been playing them since LAUNCH!!!!
I have one question to ask you smart @sses, why is it that the jedi I grouped with (full template) with a FOURTH generation LS used a Laser Rifle and did more damage than she could with a LS????????????????????
Explain that MR "Learn how to melee"!!
Yeah, I didnt think so.

I think you can still be really effective as melee, of course not as good as pre cu but still damn good.
My template is Fencer/Doc/Swords 0010(improvd armor break)/Tk 0010(Improved cob). With this template I can stand toe to toe with jedi, but this is just since they fixed bactajab as its really good for healing now (however my mind can eventually run out and then am screwed
That happens most vs defenders as they arent healing much and so consantly hurting me). I think the problem people have is that they cant heal well enough whereas jedi can heal over and over really fast (Force limiting ofc). I hate to say it but you really need cm or doc in your template, at least if you plan to fight solo. Kinda like just before the cu hehe ![]()
I eat vegeparsine/thudercloud for defence, keep cob up all the time and use corellian ale for my accuracy. Seems to work well for me
Oh and good armor really makes a massive difference ![]()

True enough....however, I don`t want to step on anyone`s toes (or paws in some player`s cases). I`ve actually come across some great vets who want nothing more than to help the noobs along in anyway they can. A kind of MMO creed if you will....."help the less fortunate".
In any case, I tend to come across too many "XP hungry" characters just as much on the dance floor as in the battle field. Sadly enough, the social atmosphere has dwindled down to "hey, what can YOU do for ME?"...or...."I`m new, how do I becomea Jedi master?"...or...my all time favorite (especially when I`m dancing in a cantina)...."hi, can you help me train to become a pistoleer / gunman / all around super hero??" (well, that was kinda exaggerated, but you get the picture).
I just wish more players were into adventure, some roleplay, and fun quests....not just "I need XP now, and you can`t stop me!!". But, I think the problem is that they feel they are competing with all of these lev 60+ vets. Why bother??
Well...I hope I`ve made sense to some of you guys. If you ever see me in a cantina (usually Bestine or Corrella) then please stop by and say hi!

I`m relatively new to SWG (been an EQ player for awhile, but fell in love w/SWG after my first day!). I definitely agree that the damage factor seems to be lacking in some respects when it comes to melee-vs-ranged. Which I guess why everyone and their mother has a pistol hidden someone in their possession!
I started out as an Entertainer (now dancer), but i`m also working more into melee (since I use a staff as a prop when I dance, and I think that us dancers should be able to defend ourselves!). I found, as in the various forms of daning, that you can do some really fun moves in melee that you can`t do in ranged. Granted, you get to blow a hole in someone, but can you really do it gracefully when you have a huge energy rifle (or whatever the biggest ranged weapon is)? I find melee (hand to hand, or even using a simple dagger) can result in alot of fun in combat.
I feel that it whats is missing....the FUN of the game. However, in my short MMO experience, it seems that everyone is power hungry and they always need to be better than everyone else. For what?, I don`t know. Are they thinking that when they become better than everyone that they will go around "dueling" everyone? :-)
In anycase, even though melee (as far as damage is concerned) may not always top ranged, I still feel that it is the most entertaining. Also, as some of your have noted, if played correctly, can result in causing a heck of alot of pain to an unsuspecting gunman! :-)
.....but, thats just my opinion.

I know what you mean Lantene, I got into that a little bit during dbl exp week, but I realized that faster exp didn't make the game an more fun, infact it was less fun because all of a sudden I finished my template and i had nothing to do.
People forget that there is more to the game, enjoy the grind as your doing it let it be in the background, don't activly hunt exp, join a group for adventure, or explore planets you don't play often. Hell i've been playing for over a year and I just ran into a cool pirate camp on LOK i never new about.
There is alot to explore and especially with ROTW lots of quests to do.
Melee...ranged...they are all fun. This shouldn`t be a huge argument of "who`s the baddest in the land". My point when it came to melee was that I find it a bit more entertaining (at least I thought that was one of the reasons for playing MMORPGs!). Yeah, it may not do uber damager, but it can be alot of fun pulling off some neat little stunts with a sword or polearm.
However, like I had mentioned in my last thread, it seems like MMO`s are now 100% personal XP power gaining, and ZERO roleplay and group play. Of course XP is essential to gaining new levels...but some ppl take it to whole different level. All they seem to want to do is hunt for more power and XP and they totally miss everything in the game (storylines, quests, etc..) Why don`t we all just go back to the DOOM generation when there wasn`t a storyline and everyone was out to destroy one another and gain anything they wanted at any price!
Eh....but thats just my opinion ![]()
