Because I saw a 200 damage gaffi stick on the bazaar for 100 credits. 
This is a very attractive weapon when your best, at the time, was a 50 damage wooden staff. I noticed I could use this god-like weapon with one-handed 1. I had enough one-handed experience to learn it from killing lowbie NPCs with my survival knife. I fell in love with one-handed as soon as I one-hand hit 1 my first enemy with that gaffi.

I would be a fencer in real life so i felt it'd be fun to take it up in game. Plus i like being a pistoleer/fencer and run around dressed like a pirate. Yarr
