Two weapon style fighting has also been called florantine. dont know why...
Been like age since i read about that, but i think i recall thatthe center of the rapier+main gauche fighting style was in florence, italy. They where close to the "bladedancers"; evrything in the motion and the style...... They where having mock-duel in weird looking 6X6 feet square on the ground with footstep on it and line showing the different strance and pose.
The main gauche they used where for parrying, designed with a curve by the handle to "catch" the opponent blade.
It was actually a social standing to be a good duelist... you can behave whatever you want and bitch peoples if you arent affraid thatsomeone will trowa duelat you...you are almost sure to win
and in that time, the main social activities of the "high-class" was bitching each other.
That fighting style wasnt adapted to battlefield, or even to oppose someone using another style. And the duels where often not to death, but to the first blood on the torso, so the blade where designed for that. Death can occur of course, but its almost never by accident: you have to aim specifically for a internal organ and do a wide trusting motion that isnt "natural" with that fighting style; they used the "tip" to do supperficial cut instead.
I could be way off, (been an awefull long time since i read about it), but that are some bit of interresting info ![]()
I think that it would be great to create ( in a distant future, un fortunatly) some elite-elite profession that come from a mix of regular elite.. like dancer+fencer (bladedancer), smuggler+fencer (pirate!!! arrghhh!), droid-engineer+bio-engineer(dunno the name.. cyborg engineer?? :robottongue
and so on.....
I agree... Fencer != Foil only. Fencer == ALL ONE HANDED WEAPON TYPES.
How about: Whips, Kamas, Tomahawks, Sias, and Stun Batons more like Tonfas (police batons) just to name a few.
I would love to be ableto perry.. p-groove baby. Tkm tries kd.. perry that **edit**, roll cancel into onehand 3... laugh![]()
Bah, someone will know what Im talkin about.

I think instead of making it two swords which could be over-powered, make just one weapon be two swords at once and make the attack and HAM on par with other weapons but when equipped it just has the look of holding two at once. It would keep things balanced and give those who like the look of two swords at once what they need. It would also keep you from using a stun baton and gaderiffi baton at one like someone else mentioned.
i like that
The Fencer class would definately be more accurately termed One-Handed Swordsman, as an Equivalent to Two-Handed Swordsman. Or perhaps the best terms would be Heavy Swordsman and Light Swordsman.
Let me clear something up, whenyou say "fencing" in the Western World and your not talking about selling stolen goods or putting up a barrier of some sort, you should expect people to think "guys dueling with rapiers" or "An Olympic Sport with Floppy Not-Sharp Swords played by People in Silly White Outfits". This is not to disparage various Eastern martial traditions, but when you say Fencing, most people don't think: Samurai, Ninja, etc. The Fencer class is misnamed, especially since our primary weapon, the curved sword resembles a Japanese weapon. I heard several people say that the Cutlass was primarily an eastern weapon, which it was not. The cutlass was a heavy sword favored by pirates, especially those in the Americas. The "Fencer" weapons are all over the place, and such a specific name is incorrect by its very specificity. The appropriately broad titlesof Rifleman, Pistoleer, and Carbinier should have been an example for the naming of the melee classes, but unfortunately they were not. While I am angered by the misnaming, we can be thankful that even though we have been given the wrong name, at least that name is spelled correctly ...
cough cough .. grenadeer .. cough cough
Duel wielding logically makes sense, look at it this way, our life, our profession requires use to be potent with weapons that require one-hand, right?
Lets ASSUME, our free hand has no defensive attributes whatsoever, if you throw another one handed weapon in there, we should be as good as if we just had one weapon.
