Thread: The final Weapon for a Fencer. Should it be changed?

If I had to guess, weapons will do a narrow range of damage. Giving the weapon higher damage will push up the cert for the weapon. Putting in vibro units or stun units will push the cert even higher.
I am sure that we will shortly see what comes of this.
No matter what happens, they are rethinking weapons. I don't have the link to the design thread, but they did talk about this.
I'm hoping that the upcoming weapon rebalance will address some of these issues and will make a wider array of weapons viable. TH mentioned rebalancing the speed equation and that itself would open up a lot of possibilities.

100% agree
Swtich stats of gaffi baton and curved sword. Fencers look like goons running around with those 'pimp sticks' (as everyone calls them)... but they are arguablyour best weapons.
It wound be nicer to see something like a rapier, or just fix the curved sword so its usable at higher levels.
Cheers

If you join a fencing club there are three weapons you can train on, the foil, epee and saber (or was it cutass), anyway, it is a one handed sword relying on speed and accuracy (i.e. talent) more than strength. I thinkg the devs got that right but the weapons they chose are not as represtentative. However, they are limited to using Star Wars type weapons so where do we go from here.
I agree, but i noticed one thing coming through in all the posts discussing about the Fencer weaponry:
People seem to totally misunderstand the term Fencer!
A Fencer is not what we think of, watching the olympics. A fencer is not to be mistake with the sport fencing.
A Fencer is a Martial Artist focusing on the use of a Bladed Weapon.
That covers everything from small knifes (a very elegant weapon, btw, if you know how to use it) up to large swords.
In SWG they simply used the term "Fencer" due to a lack of imagination and set the profession as the summary of all weaponry that puts speed above Force.
Thus the Fencer was born, opposed to the Heavy Swordsman (focussing force over speed).
So, please do not think that the actual choice of weapons is only Sport-fencing-style weaponry, but rather all fast weapons.

I would like to see more damage on the vibroblade. I get the feel that the devs didn't want the AP bonus making a 1h weapon too damaging, but with the speed bonus the way it is, fencers get left out at the high end.
Leveling side by side with a pikeman, I can really see this. Forgot the exact weapon he is using, maybe a vibrolance. But, he hits as often as I do, as fast as I do, but with about 400 more damage. Not to mention that nice KD he has. Of course, that's more envy than any real issue. The real issue is our speed bonus isn't really a class defining thing.
If we're suppose to have the same damage output as the other melee classes, then faster weapons and more damaging weapons are needed. Gaderiffi Baton has nice damage on it, but no AP and 3.5 (roughly) speed. A vibrosword would be nice. Really hate the look on vibroblades, I want a sword, not something the size of a survival knife.
A vibrosword with the same stats of a gaderiffi baton but with AP 1 or even 2 would be good.
As for medium armor piercing, it can be debated. My standpoint is piercing weapons are the best armor penetrating weapon there is. A sharp rod will go through armor better than an axe would. An axe would have a higher chance of being deflected while a rod wouldn't. A sword point would open the armor up and then allow for the rest of the blade to penetrate easier than trying to slash into the armor. It's a smaller area, more force type of thing.
The terms that they use are misleading. It says fencer in some areas, and one-handed in others. Same with heavy swordsmen, some areas it is 2h weapons. One place I seen it refered to as swordsman and heavy swordsman. Then there's the 2h weapons vs pikeman. Isn't a polearm a 2h weapon?
My personal opinion on those 3 classes is that they should've combined them into 2 classes. Split the classes into 1h and 2h or into blades and unbladed. 1 class get all the swords whether 1h or 2h, and the other get the polearms, hammers, and lances. Of course, it's too late for that, just a thought.
ill repeat what the other guy said.. this is a one handed expert class we only have 1 "fencer" title we are not a club we are blademasters

Since when is a Cutlass a Fencing weapon? A cutlass is a short, wide bladed sword often used by pirates because it can be swung around in confined spaces....
Hmm...since always? You seem to think that a short, wide-blade sword used by pirates is by definition not a fencing weapon. Why?
