Thread: stun batons.. crap or not crap

Stun batons are(or can) be very useful. The reason for this is it does stun damage. And nearly ALL armor types have a vulnerability to stun damage(that is 0% resistance). The only player armor I know of that has a resistance to stun damage are the personal shield generators. Everyone thinks the personal shield generators suck though, so you want see very many(if any) people actually using them.

If every other onehand sword (AR0) hits a player with kinetic armor (A1), the damage will FIRST be reduced by 50%, due to the AR bonus. Then will further be reduced another... let's say 30%, due to the effectiveness rating.

Which means that only 35% of the damage of a curved sword would be penetrating the armor.

there is no beneifit from the weapon producing stun damage as opppsed to kenetic, becuasewhen you subtract the amout of damage blocked trough kenetic resitance ratings (usually 20-40%) ryyks, vibros, and curved blades still come out on top. if you wereeverin a situation where you determined that the stun baton would be benificial in an attack, you are most likleyalready outmatched.

i've never been in a situation where icould benifit from the stun baton

Ok you need to read the armor guide posted a while back. Let me just lay out to you how damage against someone in Light armor (only thing available to players).

#1) Right off the bat, the damage of your Rykk or Curved is halved.

#2) The damage of your weapon is then reduced by another 20-40% based on the Kinetic resistance of the armor (Chitin/Ubese is 20ish, sliced Composite can get up into the 40s).

So, if you hit someone for 100 damage, that would be reduced to 50, and the further reduced to 40 (assuming 20% kinetic resistance).

Now, with the Vibroblade, everything would be the same, except your damage would not be halved because it is AR1. However against anything AR2 and above it would be halved (Curved/Rykk would be 1/4), and AR3 would be 1/4 (Curved/Rykk would be 1/8).

Meanwhile a Stun baton will do 100% damage to any players wearing armor and any creatures without stun resist, regardless of their AR (almost nothing has stun resistance!). Something can be AR3 with 0% stun and you'll still do 100% damage.

For PvP, generally, Vibroblades are always superior to stun batons as of right now. They both ignore the AR1 value and Vibroblades will probably have at least a 30% greaterDPSwith much lessHAM cost. Tantel and shield generators are not vulnerable to stun either.

Also, there is no such thing as a heavy armored enemy with a vulnerability to stun. There are at least a few medium armored enemies that are though (that's the only use for a stun baton right now in my opinion).

Unfortunately, the resources on Intrepid seem rather poor... I've only seen piddly stun batons available yet. Until then, I might as well avoid pvp--since most people utilize armor.

Oh, and what exactly is DPS?

Correct, Tantel isn't vulnerable to stun. But who wears that awful looking crap anyway? T3h funny!

The Stun Baton IS inferior to the V.Blade right now.

Someone stated above that if you DO come across an NPC w/ stun protection of any kind..you're in for a rough time.

Why would I equip something thats going to drain my HAM ..has no bonus in the form of distance modifiers (only negative)...and that can only generally be used if someone is wearing armor in PVP?

Perhaps at a higher level..but then again I am 1-2-1-1 in the Fencer tree and things havent changed much.

Man, stun batons are cool. All the Imperial NPC troops seems to have them as standard issue for melee combat. You have not seen the might, grace and lethality of a stun baton if you haven't seen a Dark Trooper smack a lowly bothan (or pretty much anything)with it. Yeah! PO-lice brutality!

That's cause their stun batons aren't 45-95 dmg like the rest of us.

As a weaponsmith who also plays a fencer on the side, I must admit I was disappointed with the results of my first stun baton. Using the best materials on my server I ended up with 48-90, 3.1. Yes I know all about stun dmg and armor ratings, but even still, this weapon is underpowered, particularly considering the relatively high HAM costs (especially to mind). Having dabbled in the other advanced meleee professions, I must say that Fencer gets the worst advanced weapon.

you need to learn how armor works ... Chittin and Ubese are not 20ish they can be way beter then composite .. Composite besides looking cool is probibly the worst armor in the game..

Bone Armor and Mabori crafted by a good smith is definently the best I have a set of 35%-40% energy bone armor with 0 ham costs

I also have a set of Ubese armor thats 40-49% Kenetic which defently sucks because of the high ham costs.

Armor is detremental to a character unless it has low low ham costs and those armor you listed Ubese and Composite more then Chitten have terrible ham costs.. Unless you know a smith with Kryatt Composite components and a strait 1000 resources its not going to be very good armor
