I personally think you should re-sticky it, atleast until you get that FAQ finished, that way it looks like we have major traffic here, but no ones posts because we are all so well informed

made perfect sense to me, eventually we have all related info in the same place and we can update it as we went along.

i agree raph, the actual posts that i want to see are usually hidden among 10-15 threads regarding topics i have seen inhundreds of other threads, and it's annoying.

I agree with the sentiments in the post, but the search on these forums is appalling,

It returns far too much junk and you cannot sort by date, (Well you can on a page by page basis, but not much fun when there are 50 odd pages to go through). The best I have found is in advanced mode where you can specify which words MUST be in the search...

Unless I am doing something pretty stupid with the search that is, in which case please enlighten me

What's with all the cynics? It's okay to disagree, but try to do it in a tasteful manner rather than get upset and attack the man who's devoted his time to making our profession functional. Maybe some constructive criticism would be better than flaming next time.

P.S. Try the advanced search

Now that's a very good idea. I'll suggest to the devs that the Advanced Search have date limitation's added to their list of search options: "Only include results between dates: XXX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX"

And seriously, bashing someone who has done as much as Raphayl just isnt cool. By no means am I "brown-nosing" with this,I am just an observer, and a proud fencer (well, I'd be even better off if I had known about the Rodian mods upon character creation...but thats another story) and would like to say that distasteful remarks really are not necessary. You temp fencers are too noobie to understand the troubles of the fencing profession so please bugger off with your flaming.

Actually, I think this was a great idea. I can't express how I loathe to see repeated questions akin to "Why should I be a Fencer?" "How is Fencer better than TKA?" "Why does Fencing exist?" ad nauseum.

As for using the search function - hell, there are so few posts, you don't even NEED it to find most topics - you just need to scroll back a few pages and, more likely than not, you'll find that post complaining about butterknives, or stating what is needed to balance melee vs ranged, or asking for advice on which skill branches to pick up first.

Raphayl, to be honest i think you have the patience of a saint, correspondant seems to be a fairly thankless task sometimes, but remember there are some out here who do appreciate it!

On an aside, I gathered together notes from various threads to give me info that I was looking for as i started, I have been trying to get into some type of human readable form. I might even have an early edition available at the weekend if people are interested. It should cover most of these questions.

The only caveat I would add is I am fairly shiny to the Fencing class only being at 0110 so it is more a collection of other peoples ideas and experiences than my own, but it is information that is/has helped me immensely. So if there are errors/ommisions/alternatives please point them out as it is alos a hole in my knowledge!

Good idea ad please re-instate until FAQ is up. If you want help im sure a few of us can reseach and pull up some of the threads that were used to BEST answer these questions. This forum is way too over run with the same old same old threads. And I am getting tired of responding to them myself and havent linked other threads cause I have seen from other forums that people get pissy if you dont anwer them and instead send to another thread.

Simply put if used correctly the search engine can get you what you want to find but it is a piece of crap cause you have to continualy twink the search in order for it to understand wat it is you want to find. All in all though it can be used just takes time and patience.

As to all the new members of our class here are a few things to remember : We of te Fencer Community will help you more often and better IF you refrain from flaming, being total ignorant ( tk vs any other melee), or jut dont take the time to even try to find anything out. I am quite sure that if a new post was made with any of these titles BUT in the post you mention i read this and this about this skill or tree but I have heard different, or in another thread someone said something different... help please. This not only shows us that you first tried but also gives us a better idea of exactly what to help you with. Weapons ... opinion. Race .... opinion. Armor ... opinion.

Most of the time youll just get opinions and a differeing of tose opinions simply because well .. there is no cut and dry answer to a lot of things. I dont mean to ruffles any feathers so to speak but Raphayl has done a great job and personally I hope she will stay at it. She dedicates SO mucbh time in collecting data and compling repoprts on them I am sure its more then just annoying that she just cant simply enjoy the game. So please help us to help you. Use the space between the ears where there is a brain that works .... the more precise a question is the easier and faster it can be answered for you ... thankyou

it was a good post, with good information. many people come here and haven't really been toa forum before, or don't know the inner workings of forums, so that would be a good sticky.

i agree that an FAQ would be more helpful, but we can't make one yet, since it will be out of date soon. however, we can always unsticky it, rewrite it, and sticky the new one. i'm more than happy to do whatever tedious tasks you delegate to me for said purpose. i'm not quite green as far as writing FAQs goes, so please let me know if i can help.

i think the main problem with your post was that you were asking people to put effort into keeping our boards clean. you may have too high an expectation (something which i am a veteran of). apparently, a simple request that will benefit everyone is completely implausible if it involves any amount of work. i for one am sorry that we can't all conform to these suggestions. i myself have found all the answers i need and i have started a total of two threads my entire time here.

i will definitely follow your suggestions in the future, and i know several others will. thank you for the time and effort you put in.

Ok, I'll do both. I'll re-sticky this, AND begin the process for an official FAQ thread. I'm going to see if I can work out an arrangement with the Amin to be able to edit it to keep it updated. No promises on that part, though.
