I use a carbine and findit to be very effective. You can shot at any distance and I find the special attacks to be pretty effective (leg shots or auto). The majority of times the animal is going to charge you even if you start at max range. Rifle gets huge minus at point blank range, pistol at long range. Carbinejust getssome at both extremes. I have debated many time aboutswitchingto rifle or pistolbut overall I'm pleased with my carbine (even with the huge ham costs).

Yes, I hunt with the equivalent of a AK47.

Sir_Voor:

Is your name from the Voors in A.A. Attanasio's books? Especially Radix and Last Legends of Earth?

Just wondering.

Ichoose carbines cause they're in the "mid-range". While in groups, I'm the mid-range support/damage dealer/debuffer. The range for carbinesis ideal for throwing traps. Also, half the carbineer specialsare AOE so it's more suitable forthe support role in groups, which I feel complements the ranger abilities.

Soloing is a bit harder, especially against mobs that BAF. The downside with carbines is the huge HAM cost.

I use pistol, becasue it performs best at an uncomfortably close range with an angry mob. (I just need /pistolmelee1, and I'll be all set!)

A deer is one thing, they usually just run away. You can't get within 30 feet before they hear you and bolt. And as for big game, well, if you feel like taking on a grizzly alone with a knife, be my guest, despite what you may have seen in The Edge.

My personal choice for weapons, is not to over specialize in one. I am a rifle specialist and enjoy beginning a fight at range. When the creature charges I throw traps and then switch to my two handed weapon. This combination is potent because both weapon's special moves concentrate on the mind pool giving a nasty one-two punch

This is sign of a great system, when there is not one "perfect" weapon skill for combatting beasts.

We have votes for Pistols, Rifles, Carbines, and Melee.

Everyone has their prefered way of playing the game, and it seems that there is a skill suitedfor all aptitudes.

I'm going for a pistol/fencer combo, because they both do health damage. I'm working on getting pistol IV now, once I do I'llattack with ahealth shot 1(which is a damage over time), trap, then melee. on paper it should work nicely I won't be master pistol and fencer but hope it will work out.

- Ah yes, my thoughts exactly. Ibelieve ranged weaponscheapen the glory of battle.

But that's why BOTH melee and ranged fighting is available, so everyone can play the way they want

Hehe, yep, yer right.

I was referring to the comments of needing a gun to kill a bear (real life, I presume)

Ive tried all kinds of weapon types, Ive used polearms, rifles, carbines, two-handed swords, and one-handed swords(which i am using right now), and I also tried Creature Handler for about a week. I like one-handed swords so far and I think I will probably stick with them, but if I dont I will most likely use rifles, just because rifles and rangers seem like they would go together.
