Thread: Weapon Choice
Since i am new to the ranger class(yay, finally became a ranger last week) I was wondering what weapons most of you use, i have trained carbine up to novice caribineer, but the Rifles really look good for long range.
I can alway finish the rifle tree easily because im one step from the top.
Thanks
I am using laser rifle to headshot the beats at distance (55 meters). Some beasts I kill with one shot, tougher beasts with 2-3 shots and the toughest beasts...I prefer not shot. Sometimes I get bad luck and miss some shots and the 2-3 shots beast can get near me to attack. Then I use a spraystick (a small range rifle) to headshot and end the beast.
Using rifle you have the bigger distance and you can end it fast with mindshot followed with headshot before the beast find you (bigger the distance more dificult the animal discover who is shooting it, if maskscent works the beast will need a lot of time to find you and attack).
But my advice is to buy rifles that are experimented to low HAM coust. If you kill with one shot you don't need high dps, then weapons experimented for high damage or high speed aren't so good to hunt. But you will need the lower HAM coust weapon you can get when you see how much your mind pool go down when using a rifle special attack. Specially if you kill ikopis with one shot (headshot 2 and a good laser rifle) and you make the ikopi's lair a slaughterhouse. You will hate when you need stop because your mind pool is at 10% or less and there's a lot of ikopis to kill.
Ummmm....now i know how some species go extinct...
I prefer the superior melee-range performance of the pistol and the higher melee defense bonuses.
Also, I have found that even if I initiate combat from maximum range (64m), my accuracy does not suffer greatly...whether this is as intended in the game design or not, I don't know. But for now I'm sticking with Pistoleer.
However, carbine and rifle are also very good options and I know many rangers will swear by them. In the end, its a matter of your own preference.
As far as melee weapons, I can't really speak to that as I have had minimal to no experience with them. But, for now at least, the creature to-hit bonuses you receive as a scout/ranger only apply to ranged attacks.
Hope this was helpful.

"Personally, I chose the pistoleer route because when fighting animals, sooner or later you *will* end up in melee, no matter how good you are."
Exactly Mugok. I have no ranged weapon skill because ofthis fact.
The only beasts that do cause me hassle are spitters (like Spineflaps, or Falumpasets). But they usually revert to close range attacks when you get closer to them.
LOL,
i have one vote for rifle, one for pistol, and one for melee.![]()
I've had zero issues being a Fencer, though, and I love it. I don't PvP. Against normal mobs on starting planets (Naboo, for example), I have no problem soloing yellows and tanking in groups.
(I do have 3rd box of Pistol skills in novice marksman (expert pistol) but I will likely have to give up the skill points back down to intermediate pistol eventually)
Anyway... my opinion... Fencer and proud and not looking back!
Getting up close and personal is more Ranger-like to me. If you're gonna kill it and skin it, you should be able to look it in the eye
Again, just my opinion hehe.
BTW, I didnt start this thread to find the best(uber) template, just curious to everyones weapon choice, i have wanted to be a ranger even when i knew they were messed up at launch. I played ac1 as a "ranger" of my own making. Trained my run skills to the top and ran everywhere i could go, just to explore. I even used the same name- Recon
Just don't want anybody to get the wrong impression of this thread
I completely prefer pistols as a ranger due to the high rate of fire. When I play on Ahazi server I tend to do a lot of soloing. when I'm grinding for scouting xp the high rate of pistol fire assists in kiting a lot of the tougher animals. The /warningshot and /suppression fire are good for keeping the creatures off of you. The pistol allows you to get these shots off before the creature can close the gap. But I guess the best idea is to use combo's. Take a few high damage pot shots with a highpowered rifle from a distance, once the creature detects you, switch to carbine or pistol depending on your preference. Hope this helps you, Slasher.
