Thread: Veteran Fencer advice needed: VERY frustrated with armor
That sounds extremely helpful, but how long do these foods last? If they provide a short-duration boost, I'm probably just as well off using Muon Gold, if I'm careful.
No, no...food is always much better than the spice. If you play it right with the food, you don't have to worry about the massive downer that will hit you once the spice is gone. I've also noticed the food generally lasts me about the same time as the spice.
I use Thakatilla (sp?) and Fishak, with a spare Muon Gold available on my bar...just in case.

Are you using bleeds? Gotta realize that they are your #1 source of damage against high level mobs with high resists.
Agreed! I love my bleeds. I may get incapped every now and then, but if I've bleed them...they're usually down to one hit point by the time I get up. Easy prey.
Tyla is correct. Bleeds are a fencer's best friend. Want the fight to be over quick? Stack bleeds and thena blind or dizzy. After that dish out non specials.

Hmm. Okay, interesting, I will try this while playing solo. Thanks to everyone who chimed in about bleeds. I do use them, but I don't often let the bleed do its work. Realize that I am typically out with a group, looking to inflict as much damage as quickly as possible to get xp, and sitting back with default attacks and two bleeds has never gotten me very far when everyone else is pounding away at the mob.
I will look into the various food items as well too. Can these be procured from the bazaar pretty reliably, or do they tend to be master chef concoctions? I'm on Starsider...can anyone recommend good Chef vendors?
Finally, does anyone know anything about entertainment buffs? No one's been able to provide solid details on that so far. That's another option I'd like to explore. Thanks for all the help, hopefully my frustration will abate soon...
I am working towards Novice Fencer right now and found this thread very helpful. I have been using Muon (thanks to my experience becoming a Master Bio-Engineer [non-holo]) and it's great except for the down time. I haven't had much experience with the foods but will be now.
As far as entertainer buffs go, a musician can raise your last 2 stats under Mind (sorry but can't remember what they are called offhand) as much as double their start value if you find a good one. A dancer can bump your mind figure as much as double. It takes approx 10 minutes of watching/listening (target and select on radial)to get the full effect and this is a small price to pay (have some fun and roleplay in the cantina). Your entertainer needs to direct his/her performance towards you or something like that but just talk to them and most are great. These buffs last from 1-2 hours I believe (never timed it but it's less than doc buffs). This is a great way to begin a good night of group fighting or even soloing. For those on Tempest, there's some awesome talent in the Freedom Forge cantina (Azzi). Be sure to be a good customer and tip'em.
I hope this helps.
Yeah, not having the Grips tree sucks for our defense. My 2 cents would be, if you're going to be buffed, you don't need armor, ESPECIALLY if you're zabrak. Wearing armor means that your specials costs a few points more ... not just a few points more if you're wearing any kind of armor, but a few points more for each piece of armor that you're wearing (which is 9 pieces for a full set of comp). Even with your focus at its max, you'll be losing around 50-80 mind per special with a full set of armor on.
As a zabrak fencer, when I am buffed, I rely on my buffed Constitution and Stamina to counteract any hits to my health or action. Because my Strength and Quickness are buffed around 2k, any weapon special will cost 0 health or action. I have my mind set on 900/500/900 and as long as I use a low mind cost weapon such as the gaffi, my mind does not go down very fast if I start spamming specials. If my mind suffers several hits, or gets low, I will back off the specials and let it regen, which doesn't take too long at all.
Remember that as a zabrak, if you're mind gets too low, if you're buffed, you can always use equillibrium to pretty much fill it back up again.
Oh, and one last thing ... after patch, I'll be selling Vasarian Brandy, great mind buff ![]()

pigeontoedrancor i got the exact same set up as far as armor and stas and if your doing hurtons still i would suggest you go to endor and do blood stained mereks they pay is better and i get 4k per kill and they only come 2 at a time. for me it was better and easier exp then the hurton missions.
On those mereks, when i was doing them last they conned yellow to me and gave me a good 4300xp each. The merek assassins conned red and i stayed away but found out that they were no harder than the blood stained ones and gave me 4800xp each. Basically all of them are just as easily killed but I would stay away from the death's head mereks, their resists are pretty high in proportion to the others...

As a dancer as well as a fencer, I can help you with this one. As has been stated before, dancers and musicians have the ability to buff mind stats. A dancer buff will affect the mind bar, while a musician buff will affect focus and willpower. The strength of the buffdependson entertainer's mind enhancement skill, which increasesas the entertainer moves through the music or dance technique line.A master dancer/musician has a base+100 mind enhancement, which translates into a +100% increase on the base mind stat of whomever's getting buffed. With the use of SEAs, some entertainerscould hita maximum of +125 mind enhancement.. but as ME attachments are rare, don't expect to come across too many people giving out those sorts of buffs.
An important thing to note is that you do not need to find a Master Dancer/Musician in order to get a buff. Any dancer or musician can buff your stats, but their buffs will be less powerful. Someone with a Skilled Dancer title (Denoting entertainers who have completed the knowledge and technique line; I'm not sure what the respective musician title is), for instance, can give you a +75% buff. (And if you'd like one of these, please feel free to get in touch with me in-game. I'm also on Starsider, and unlike most entertainers, I'm never AFK for more than a few minutes at a time.)
Unlike doctor buffs, entertainer buffs require you to watch or listen to your entertainer for about 8-10 minutes, after while you'll receive a buff that should last you between 2 and 2.5 hours.
For food, I'd recommend trying Corellian Fried Ice Cream, which boosts focus, or Fishak, which boosts mind. If you happen to be on Dant, try checking out Tewoo's vendor in Citadel, near the shuttleport. It tends to stay pretty well stocked, though Iknow that a lot of chefsare slowing or halting production in preparation for the upcoming food revamp and Tewoo may be one of them.
BlauwVis, DarcDawg, thanks for the tips about mind buffs. At first thought, waiting ten minutes to get buffed for ~two hours doesn't sound like that great of a deal, but when I think about it, it often takes that long sitting around waiting for a Doctor to buff, so I think I'll give it a try. Am I right in thinking that it can be tricky to find both a Dancer and a Musician who is willing to buff at the same time (so as not to waste one buff while getting another), though?
Everyone has already helped out a lot, but as long as I'm here...can a Master Chef out there list the various foods that provide mind buffs, and give a decent high-quality average of the strength/duration of those buffs? I'd also be interested in finding a good Master Chef vendor somewhere near Theed (on Starsider), if anyone knows of one. Thanks all, much appreciated...
It would depend on the day/time you are in the cantina I would imagine. On Tempest, I hang out in the Freedom Forge cantina on Naboo and there tends to be both professions represented (Azzi is da'bomb). In most of the large cities the cantina should have both so you should be okay there.
At worst, buy a crate or three of muon gold or some of the nice chef foods/drinks if you can't wait.
There are some good posts on the Chef boards concerning the upcoming patch changes to the Chef profession that can give you all the info you are looking for. Apparently a new creation called vasarrian brandy is going to be the item of choice for mind enhancements from the Chefs.
Composite is evil. I took on look at the HAM-cost
