Thread: I'm confused. Do we suck or not

There is a thin line between a weak fencer and a strong one- tactics and equipment. Two master fencers dueling together should split victorys 50/50. But the fencer with the better weapon and armor will win. However, the fencer who uses specials wisely, chooses his fights, and knows when to do what will have the advantage.

Fencers are not weak from my experience, although we do better against MOBs than NPCs and PCs, smart, well equipped, careful fencer will do signigantly better in PvP combat.

As a master fencer ..My opion is we do suck ...Master Fencer will lose to any other master melee..I know this cause ..I duel with every master melee already..with special and no special...I try every combination ..its so unbalance and another thing is I have 40 dodge and I haven't be able to dodging anything..if you wonder how i got up to 40 dodge its cause i master the first skill of pistoleer ...my suggestion hit up heavy swordsman they get to weld a cool looking cleaver and they rock at pvp.

We don't suck..

For one I play with style and class. As a RPG type games this is a huge factor for me in the queation, "do we suck or not."

And on another note. I do pretty well in combat. I don't PvP that often and really don't care much for one on one "I owned you" fights. I get involved in mass PvP battles and raids. You'd be suprised how easy it is for me to waltz in and cripple someone. Once they know melee is in thier ranks, I get targeted by many. But again this gives my teamates an advantage and me some pleasure in knowing I am a threat and they know it.

Ohh ya and I do get kited. BUT I make someone run real scared.

And It gives me joy to know, that my opponent knows, the only way to live is to use a server side distance based delay exploit to kill me.. =)

We will get this class fixed.. Why cuz it takes hard headed, determined, badass, unstopable players to grind fencer..

I just started, but I like the fencer, I have been killed only once, in a day full fo MOB killing. When I started out in marksman, I was slaughtered by Ikopis and paralopes all of the time. I walk up to a paralope, and one smack they are dead, never could do that as a long range spec. I had to reach Novice Carbineer before I cold do that with a decent carbine. I think this class is cool, and does need some fixes. But with deflector shields in your inventory, and faction pets that shoot long range along with a melee pet, which is how I fought as a carbineer, I know I am a threat to my enemy.

Zentripper that i so well said. We do need to be hard headedand stubbon to the bone.

fencing or any other profession shouldn't be about owning one another, or being the best PvP'er around, it should be about likeing your character for his/hers roleplaying potential, and choosing a style that reflects the role you wana play.

That Fencing is somewhat unbalanced is a matter that will only be corrected if we all keep our heads high and punk sony untill they see their mistakes and balance this thing out. keeping in mind that we are in reality the ones that really rock, namely because we choose this difficultyet appealing fightingstyle, and because we stick with it.

I'm not sure if being loud and stubborn will get us "fixed" any faster, if indeed we need fixing at all. There a re balancing issues that need to be addressed, and the devs had already said they're working on solutions. What will get us balanced faster is constructively discussing the issues of balancing intelligently and rationally. If the devs see our threads and say "wow that's exactly what we were thinking" we will be payed more attention to.

Overall, patience is a virtue. We must all remember and live by that creed. We have all exhibited an insane amount of patience to even qualify for Novice Fencer. Being patient a bit more won't hurt. I would be willing to wager that the sheer rarity of Fencers in and of itself will alert Sony that there's a problem. Then again, I'm feeling optimistic today. I don't know anywhere near as much about the class as most of you seem to and I'm not one for number crunching or min-maxing (not implying that any of you are either) but those things don't matter. It's all about style in my opinion. Substance comes a distant, yet still relatively important second.

Because I'm also a Doc, I don't have many problems in PvE (Zabrak also...equillibrium rocks) you couldn't pay me to go into PvP right now since I'm still rather new at the game, and I've only dueled once. The only problem I have in either is the dodge skill seemingly not working and the insane penalties we have to hit moving targets, plus the annoying target out of range bug/thing/crap. We also deserve a HAM reduction and I feel the Devs should rethink the cap on our weapon speeds. It's silly that a Pikeman or Heavy Swordsman can attack just as fast as we do and do tons more damage. On the flipside though, those high end 2-handed swords and polearms seem to have CRAZY penalties to hit. I saw a Power Hammer last night that was something crazy like -40 to hit from all ranges...ugh.

The knockdown nerf was bemoaned by many melee users...and rightfully so. However, we should not all be forced to do the exact same thing to be effective. Where's the style in spamming knockdown and beating a guy senseless while he's prone? Granted, it's funny as all hell...but hardly befitting true master of a melee art...unless that art is Brazilian Ju-jitsu...hehe. They should add an ability to possibly parry blaster fire at higher levels with high quality weapons...giving bonuses to this ability as you progressed along the Fencer skill trees,of course your weapon would be damaged also, but it would help mitigate some of the insaneshots we take trying to close into melee range. This would never be perfect and it should have a decent chance of not working, but it would help. A nice snare for those cowardly gun users would be nice also. Something tied to a bleed (I think all melee weapon users can inflict bleeds, right?). So that if you land a bleed on a target, he/she is also snared. That may bea bit overpowering..but it would give us something to use besides knockdown on those annoying blaster chumps who like to shoot and run all the time.

We need different weapon choices offering us a variety of options. Guns get the ability to do different kinds of damage...so we should have similar options. Like a sword that does 1/2 kinetic and 1/2 fire damage and so on...I am one of the rare individuals who uses the Rykk Blade...once again, it's about style and I refuse to use the steak knife as a legitimate weapon. Give me a Rykk Blade that does kinetic and fire damage and we have a happy Fencer

These are just my musings on the topic. I've started a Heavy Swordsman also and I'm finding her fun also. She does a crapload more damage and she doesn't swing that slow...so I can see the disparity there. She'll never replace my Doc/Fencer as a main. But it sure makes you go hmmm..after you've seen on in action. I'm afraid to see a TK go at it...and hopefully I'll never have to in order to have a good melee character who doesn't use a gun....

I would say that we are definitely viable and that we are not gimped beyond hope. A fencer can do well enough in PvE as things stand. Compared to other classes however, I think that fencers are definitely near the bottom of the heap and need a lot of love.

It may be that a lot of the other classes are just more powerful than they really should be.

I think it's sort of that a few are as powerful as they need to be, and the rest are underpowered than they should be at master level. It's all balance really. We will always be kited. But balances to even the playing field are in the works, as we know.

Greetings,

When an apprentice2 handed swordsman can consistantly get more exp on the same mobs, using weapons made by the same master weaponsmith, than a 2,3,3,2 fencer then you tell me!

Yes we do indeed suck but thems the breaks.

Hopefully our day will come.
