Thread: What kind of damage can a Fencer put out?

Its been answered for you.
We put out low damage. Our advantage is we can take more damage than most, therefore letting our dmg add up. Our strongest attacks are our bleeds, which take time, our defenses give us that time.
Tka's and commandos put out massive dmg, We put out low damage. As to exact numbers, depends on weapons and mobs. Id say we do about 1/4 to 1/2 the dmg of tka's or commandos.
Well, jar, you know as much as i do, that every single elite combat profession outdamages a commando in DPS by at least factor 2 =)
To answer the question of the author:
On the melele professions, Fencers deal the least damage. They hit the best, though. Highest accuracy, good defenses, high speed, low damage.
The commando:
High initial damage, devastating delay in their special moves, low to pityfull accuracy. Nice DoTs, horrible wounds.
In comparison to ranged professions, the fencer deals more damage than a pistoleer, less damage than a carbineer or rifleman.
I dont even strat to talk about BH, they are almostas gimped as commando, with only Eyeshot and Torsoshot as interesting ability.
Pikemen hant hit the floor if they would drop their pike.
Nuff said?

If you're decide on a fencer/pistoleer type of template you may want to consider adding the dirty fighting smuggler skill tree. Feign death and a ranged knockdown are very useful skills to have. Especially, when used in conjunction with the 4 heath bleeds you'll have available.

I fear that I did not express myself clearly enough. Either that, or you took my name assumed I was a 1337 dude ... or however you say it. My post was made very quickly and may have come across wrong. Please let me clarify my question...
When I began playing this game (12/23/03) I was certain that I was going to be a fencer. Unfortunately, for my goal, I received a gift of a mysterious little cube that spoke the words.... "Master Marksman". This threw a BIG monkey wrench in my plans .... I became used to wielding high-powered weapons of mass destruction. And from pairing with others hunting out on Dant, I found the Commando to be an interesting profession.
I have not had the pleasure of pairing with a real fencer and thus I have not been able to witness their prowess in battle. All I have had to go by are the posts I read here and there. So I asked this question because I only have the original1-handed experience I gained to go by, which I earned back when I first started playing. (1handed IV)
I was just curious as to what awaited me, were I to go back to the fencer route...

What is with all the sarcasm? I have read posts in this forum stating how polite and helpful the fencer community is.I honestly don't see where I gave cause for some of the answers I have received...
You should have read the other posts regarding our damage. This is a topic that's discussed repeatedly.
Many of us have nothing but disdain for people who place a large emphasis on damage.Fencers are the *antithesis* of "damage put out".
This fact, imo, is easily discernable from reading the existing posts on this forum.

This is the thing. we have NO ARMOR PIERCING weapons at all. if you want big damage you need armor piercing or else even light armor rating makes you **edit**ed. we give up HIGH damage like a swordsmen gets for mass defence.

This may be true.In my experiencethough - they all open with the strongest flame shot they have - and with the speed cap, they have just as high a chance of getting the first hit in as I do. AlsoCOB doesn't protect against DOT as far as I know. I am consistently hit for 1200+ DOT ANDthe damage a commando doeswith flamerthrowers leaves massive wounds. This is far more devestating to an unbuffed opponent than HAM which can regenerate/be healed.
I have a tough time beating them. If I didn't have powerboost - I wouldn't do as well as I do.

Well, my dear Lady of the Blades, i will have to tell you, that CoB work fantastic against Flame Dot, just not dodge. Every Secondary Modifier (Acuity, Block, Counterattack, Dodge) will work against the damage but not against the DoT. I don't know for sure wether this is a bug or not, but i will just take it as it is.
The DoT attack however needs one prerequisite to deliver it's DoT effect: It has to hit.
If you have a ranged defense of 110 to 130 base and you use CoB, a Commando with his more than pityfull accuracy can't hit you even if he uses /aim before the attack.
If he uses /aim he will also kiss the ground long before he does damage, or will simply be delayed (Warcry and Panishot are your friends.
Use Intimidate and you will half even the DoT.
Use Stun to create a crippling delay of 15 seconds betwee each Flamer special.
And last, but not least, the classic: Use Knockdown/Dizzy on the commando (lunge 2 has 20m range, so you are well outside his Flamer range :smileyvery-happy)
Trust me, Seena, it is pityfully easy to devastate a commando. They always remind me of Suicide Bombers, when they llight their flamers.
They spary, the drop, then they prey the DoT will kill their target, before they are deathblown. Unfortunately "Spray and Pray" does not work against the Dogg

Yanno I'd only dueled a few Commandos - and don't recall having a particularly difficult time. But it's been awhile, so I don't remember the specifics.
The other day though, I dueled an Expert I think - he was not a Master- whichprompted me to glance at combat que afterwards, only because he beat me the first two duels. The second two - with power boost and food, I was able to win.
Now, I will say that I had a brand new mouse that Iwasn't comfortable with, so perhaps this had something to do with my difficulties- but I'mpretty sure that this acounted for all of it.
When I reviewed the que - he opened with flame single 2 (I believe) and managed to hit me *first* in all four duels. Now, I always hit COB before I even accept the challenge - I have it macroed. My ranged defense is 139, my melee defense is 171, and my dodge is 105. Still - he connected with each opening shot, in all four instances. Now - as for using intimidate - that is, imo, useless as an opening move - it takes too long, and allows you opponent to get too many initialshots in. And once you're hit for 1200+ damage -with those massive wounds, if you don't have power boost/spice/food, it's pretty much all over. I don't recall the range we started at - the firstthree were definitely not at 20 meters, I think that the fourth- was.
Maybe it was just an 'off' day for me. Maybe the new mouse threw me 'off'. But I still can't figure how he managed to get the first shot in, and connect with it, for all four duels. If I didn't have power boost and the foods- I wouldn't have won. And.... heheheheeh I don't *like* that ![]()

ps.. stun? Um... do we have a stun? I don't have panic shot either - I am a pure melee character. Heheheeh they call me the "Melee Goddess" ![]()

Ack, my Kingdom for an edit button - this should read "but I'm pretty sure this didn't account for all of it"

ive heard that flame cone 2 goes straight through dodge, i wonder if flame single 2 does the same, as whenever ive been dueling a commando he always connects flame single, its possible that it gives massive accuracy bonuses as well...who knows, also does anyone know if ranged mitigation helps in taking away the massive damage of flamethrowers? thanks
If you get hit by a flamer special and it goes past your ranged defense, the dodge will prevent the initial Damage, but not the DoT Effect.

The trick is: Start with warcry (or panic shot)!
Once he is delayed, he is dead!
Quick guide:
- Delay
- Blind
- Bleed1
- Bleed2
- Dizzy
- Knockdown
- 1H-Hit3 till delay ends
- (delay ends)
- 1H-Hit3 till dead
Should be gone in 23 seconds, if he was buffed, 5 seconds if he wasnt. Wearing armor triples the time needed, or doubles the time if you use a Vibroknife. Just use the gaffi for the bleeds (btw, i am lazy and i dont do it :smileyvery-happy![]()
