Thread: What kind of damage can a Fencer put out?

I am conflicted at the moment between commando/tka/medic and fencer/pistoleer/medic.


It is obvious as to why I like commando. Big, frontloaded damage and great DoTs. However, I have always been partial toward the fencer class (wielding swords just seems right) also.


Mymain concern is that I always hear/read about how "hard it is to hit fencers with their dodge". Which is all well and good, butcan you guys do any 'real' damage? .... I have always lived by the old saying, "The best defense is a good offense"... Meaning: If they are dead already they can't hit you anyway.


So I'm curious what kind of damage can you fencers can 'realistically' put out at the novice through master levels?



My skills right now are: Master Marksman | Novice TKA| 20k from Novice Commando| 1h Weapons IV | Medic Novice | 12k to Novice Pistoleer ..... so I can still go either way.

The highest damage I do as a blademaster to an unarmored target seems to be about 2.5K with my 270 max dmg. gaderiffi drainpipe. This is with 1handHit3 (random HAM attack, about 50% to the healthpool). Highest BodyHit seems to max out at around 1.6K.

Bleeds seem to average 500 for healthHit1, and 1300 for healthHit2.

We're kinda low on weapons with armor piercing though, so anything with high kinetic or stun resist will take a while to kill...

Fencer is not about damage. Its about speed and finesse in your style of play. The defenses as a whole give you the time you need to do that. Fencer rocks in PVP and I can take on pretty much anything in PVE.


I average a bit over 3k damage with my gaffi stick at master. Unless you get special composite armor with a stun layer, composite is vulnerable to stun so i use the stun baton alot. In pvp this rocks and most other armor and npcs are vulnerable to stun as well. The curved sword is just plain fun to use. If you want damage go with tka (no special weapon or armor piercing) or swordsman (great damage, weapons, and armor piercing, Hardly any defences, good combo with fencer though). If you want a fun class that will let you do anything in the game go Fencer.

a nice very well rounded class not big dmg. but if you cant hit with big dmg what good is big dmg?our thing is we dont get hit much. no we dont do much dmg but we stay around long enuf to get the dmg through

Fencers don't do too well in PVP or PVE we are still severly gimped. I suggest you stick with commando the only thing we are good for is Roleplaying. By the way tell your friends.

What is with all the sarcasm? I have read posts in this forum stating how polite and helpful the fencer community is. Well I am sorry to say that up to this point most of what I have experienced has been horrid treatment from the 'community'. There have been a few helpful and courteous people, and to them I say thank you, but the rest of you have been down right obnoxious toward me.


I simply asked a legitimate question: What kind of damage can a Fencer put out?


I asked this because, from all that I had read up to the time of my post, it seemed that Fencers were all about defense, so it got me to thinking... If they have such great defense, what kind of offense could they possibly have?


I honestly don't see where I gave cause for some of the answers I have received...

Its been answered for you.


We put out low damage. Our advantage is we can take more damage than most, therefore letting our dmg add up. Our strongest attacks are our bleeds, which take time, our defenses give us that time.


Tka's and commandos put out massive dmg, We put out low damage. As to exact numbers, depends on weapons and mobs. Id say we do about 1/4 to 1/2 the dmg of tka's or commandos.

I would say that the commando and the fencer do two entirely different kinds of damage.

The fencer can consistently apply a moderate amount of damage, to multiple targets, and survive over an extended period of time. The commando can inflict a much greater amount of damage, but not as consistently, and are open to attack when the damage is first applied.

For example, a master fencer with 1-hand hit 3 can probably kill a creature in the 10k ham range faster than a commando. Using 1-hand hit 3, the master fencer can land four or five hits of 2000 or more in the time it takes to fire one flame special.

But one thing I miss about commando is that, if I saw something I wanted to try, a force sensitive NPC, a kimo, a krayt (before the patch) etc., I could appy a DOT and get some distance while the flame took effect.

Plenty of times just since the patch my groupmates and I looked around and said-- "We could do this if we had a Commando."

Fencer might be more versatile, but TKA might also fit that bill.

I think a great group would have a commando and a fencer in it. It's just a question of which you want to be.

If you're just looking for raw damage numbers, consider this:


Fencer's highest damage weapon is going to be a Gaderiffi Baton on an unarmored opponent with no resists. The max damage on the best crafted Gaderiffi Baton I have seen is 300 with a max damage slice. Fencers get a x1.86 base damage mod, bringing this to 558, and the most "damaging" special attack is Hit3 with a multiplier of x5 bringing the total up to 2790. Against a prone target you get a x1.5 damage bonus, so the final best hit a Fencer would be able to expect is around 4185 damage.


Of course, most of your opponents will have armor, and resists, possibly toughness, and you won't always hit for max, or use Hit3 constantly. Also, some of your opponents will have Mitigation1-3. Don't forget that in PvP the damage will be reduced to 25%.


Is this along the lines of what you are looking for?
