It's not like I actually dodge anything with it... and yes I am using melee weapons.

I did an experiement hunting smaller creatures and the damageI received when using CoB was about 22% less than when i was not.

If you hold your cursor over the icon under your name when you have it on it says that It gives you 500+ defence for 46 seconds. That is 250 melee defence 250 ranged. I'd say its worth it.

If you aren't using your CoB you aren't nearly as effective. Even with alot of low end mobs hitting you yes they do little bits of damage but that adds up so it is even usefull against low level things.

Also you do not "Dodge" anymore when you are using CoB it just gives you more defense which makes you harder to hit and reduces the ammount of damage you take. They actually did say Dodge is technically in the game and people still have a chance to Dodge but no professions add to this. Not sure if skill tapes help or not, I'm guessing they don't since there is no physical stat to add too. But then again you can use terrain negotiation tapes with out having any scout and get the effect.

CoB is an absolute 'must use' ability now. It just works alot differently than you're used to. 'Defense' isnt about dodging the attacks like it used to be.Simply when an attack is made, the one who's hit defense is directly compared against the accuracy of the one making the attack. If defense is higher than accuracy, the attacks damage is reduced by how great the difference is. If accuracy is higher, the damage is increased instead.

So CoB kicks up your defense by 250pts...which is huge. I definately see damage reduced by at least a third when I turn it on. Nevermind using Improved CoB from Teras Kasi, which raises defense by a huge 500 pts. Between that an innate TK armor you'll feel more protected than in Assault gear.

I guess it is in the game because of food, clothing/armor attachments and clothing tissues. It is in fact possible to still get a quite resonable dodge bonus, but don't nail me on it.

Is it best to still use CoB from a macro?

You could make a macro for it but make sure you know when it is about to go off again because if you are moving it will cancel the wind up.

Can you display an on screen message or any indication from a macro?

You can set in game alarms that will repeat so you wouldn't even need a macro just go to the Alarm tab in the options and put in the duration of CoB or a few seconds before and you can have it do a sound and a system message. =)

Yay. You are my hero No more being pwned by lots of critters anymore

Can you set the alarm off from the macro? I.E have the Cob macro send a message every time it is about to restart.

You can try and mess with it I think the command is /addAlarm 0(hours)0(minutes)0(seconds). If that doesn't work you could always start the macro right as you add the alarm in the options so it would go off at the same time.
