Fencer Archive
Thread: I love fencing/melee, but it just seems hard to me. Any advice appreciated.
about the only other thing i can suggest.... you are not igh enoug to truly fight with them ...
it sad to say but at novice fencer you are truly asking for db on Dath. i was unting LoK with a Coward Gurrek and on Dant with a GSP soloing buut tats about it.. I have yet to even hunt on endor or Yavin. it kinda ucks but until your speed and defense mods are in place a well a you oter moves.. your close to a db everytime. I also agree that as the weaker melee you should be behind pets or behind another melee.. tis will help you alot.
make sure you have the best vibroblade you can get atm also.. unless your a wookie or trandosh or with doc buffs then go with a adv core ganderffi. You wil like that dmg very much. thats about it... enjoy and have fun... i know as i get more killz i am having more fun cazuse tings are dying so much eaier now
Ah ok so my defensive mods aren't high enough? Hadn't thought of that, perhaps that may work. I was always a gunner before I found the world of fencing...so I had no problems hunting outer planets with my guild, I mean how hard is it to use a gun, it takes much more skill to use a melee weapon, it's A LOT easier to stand back with a gun.
but my weapon is a curved sword 1.8 59-150 (around that damage, could be wrong but I know it caps at 150) and I am unable to find better, minus 160 max damage. Why would a vibro blade make things better? All the vibro blaes I have seen are worse than this ratio. maybe I a missing osmething on the weapon scheme of things.
appreciate your responses so far.
the reason i mention a vibro is that you can spam special all day long and wont kill yourself with your own ham costs... the curved is a very nice wep and i used to use mine in dueling and going bexerk... but the am cots were too much otherwise..
another thing is that though the vibroblade is lower dmg it does have armor piecing of light. so between being able to spam specials all day long wich wit oneit2 is very nice, combined wit the spd of a vibro tat can be dmg sliced since its spd is already low once you ave the spd mods in place, and te lowest of all am costs ... think any server carries it at teens on ealth 20's on action and teens on mind you will be good to go for a while.
Once you have footwork 4 (spd tree) can try a adv ganderffi but make sure you watch the ham costs. wort thing we ca do is kil ourselves as melee.
Dude you deff not high enough for dath as novice fencer, try hunting shallow tortons on Rori or bolee bols on naboo. Also get a new sword, my curved is 2.1 76-176 before slice and now is max damage of 210. the vibro bladeI have is almost what you are usingfor curved and does better than that. it is 44-144 damage (one speed of 1.8 and other is sliced for damage up to 176) vibros will do more damage usually than the curved swords because they have light armor piercing and when they don't it's maybe less than 100 points of damage- I'd rather use the butter knife, or find your self a good gadaffi stick and stun batan.

umm actualy i just hunted thee tonight and it took 5 its from a nightster ranger to kil me... and then also took a ranco about the same...
i have lvl 2 stances (defense) but i am also a doctor and use an mk unit...
Hello, Well I am not a frequent poster here but I wanted to post this in hope that I get some sort of meleeing/agro advice in this game. Now I just started fencer about 6 days ago, and am almost done with novice fencer. I just find that I love fencing and I can do some decent damage. But my problem is getting hit and dying....frequently.
Now I am not talking soloing. Right now I usually group when I can with my guild on the outer planets, endor, dath, dantoo, yavin4, etc. Now my problem usually happens with 'large' creatures such as rancors or even bols for that matter. I can get up to the creature and fight, and I can get from 5m to 8m depending on the creature, bols let me get to 7m and I don't get hit usually. So anyway, I usually get incapped by rancors because so how I get agro and they hit me. Now it can't be my dmg because commando's are pounding, my other master brawler friend is kicing the **edit** out of him, and the pets...so somehow I get hit.
Now is there anything I can do to watch myself from getting agro. It is very bad when your on a guild hunt VERY far from an outpost and you get DBed and have to run all the way back...that is 15min minimum of a run just because of an odd agro problem.
Now the reason of this post, actually made me so furious is when I was hunting Nightsisters...well as you know they hit VERY hard, and sometimes actually DB on the finishing hit. I am usually NON buffed, but sometimes our doctor attends and we get buffed. But I am talking without buffs, telling someone to get buffed all the time just doesn't seem like a good way to balance my melee knowledge. But we were being attacked by about 5 or 6 nightsisters and I targeted the sister that everyone else was attacking, there was about 4 pets on it and I got as close as I could, inching 1m til I am actually hitting her, then after 2 swings (just two) I get incapped and DBed, all in one shot. So now I clone and am so **edit** far from the sister encampment, that I just log out for the night, no sense getting really stressed over that.
So is there anything I could've done, or anything I need to elaborate on to make this better or make it so you can understand what I am trying to say better?
my other issue, is with gunners killing so fast I can't actually hit the mob, but that is for another thread
a guild with 5 commandos hunting at once, doesn't leave much room for a melee, but I digress ![]()
again, this is not a rant or a flame or even bitching, (in a sense I am bitching) but I just love melee in this game, but I don't want to have to stop what I am doing because I have to run after getting DBed in one shot. Or even not being able to lose agro, when I get agro and try backing away...it just pisses me off.
thanks in advance.

also, don't be on opposite sides from your fellows. i always stay directly behind my pet or another fighter. in fact, with two melee fighters, we switch. when one of us gets low, he back up behind me, and i take a few hits while he heals. then we switch again.
be sure you're not on follow, too. it's easy to use follow to close in, but remember to turn it off when you're within 7 meters or so.
other than that i'm out of ideas. i know there are more out there.

my question is... if your doctors are buffing, why aren't they resuscitating you?
Oh they do when they are around
having more or less the same effect here : im nearly MCH and was going around with pistols killing Corsairs and Mercs on Lok.
Now often when i get in range with one of themi get insta-db-cloned with no chance to defend...also my pets keep fightin so i've to quickly run back...
I can stand it if u guys says i will get better at that ![]()
Your major problem is that you are getting inside 1m away from the mobs. I usually stay 5m away from all mobs when I have a pet to tank. A nice little pet with armor will make your life simple. And when you are grouping with CH's please try to keep the distance, never get within the 1m, that will always pull aggro.
The simple rule is to never be closer than the pet, that is when you will pull aggro from other mobs. You will also find that some of the weapons have added bonuses for being at a certain distance, take those into consideration when fighting.
Before I mastered Fencing I applied this rule and was able to easily kill solo Giant Baz Nitches with a rock beetle and some good stim d's. Was able to finish the entire tier4 blocks within6 days, you just need to practice and figure out the safe distance you can attack from.
