Thread: why nerf should have just deleted the profession!

I would like to say i have been a dedicated fencer for over 2 years i would much rather have had the profession removed from game i meen cmon what a joke thanx alot . i read these forums and i look at post about templates and what not i have had fencer with melee defense stack over 300 and still is garbage ranged with over 300 and still garbage please just delete the profession stop tormenting us with this waist of a profession or fix it for the love of god we wanted balance not jedi vs jedi pvp or jedi vs bh pvp.

only a VK...which means u suck. U dont get innate tk armor without a vk equipped...and tk has 1 useful move (dizzy). Swordsman u should just use their attacks with their weapons cuz u do more dmg. Fencer is obsolete in this.

You DO get the innate armor with other weapons equipped!

Still owning nearly all long ranged, full templatedin PvP WITH cl 70 unmastered fencer....what are YOU complaining about? You just do not know how to fight =/

stop crying buddy, we r damage dealers now, if u dont like this change there is other professions for you.
now we have a different role.
when was the last time u hit a jedi by 900dmg?.. well now u can.. so get use to it.

what are u useing to hit for 900dmg on a master defender or any other jedi. definately not a 845dmg stun batonwith pvp dmg reduction. please share with the rest of us.

well, my stun baton isnt "TEH UBER" but is not bad.. im at my job now.. so i cant tell u the exact dps, but is about 460 or so...
and yes, 929 was the exact dmg, and ofcourse it wasnt a master defender.. to a master defender the best i get is 520.. but still not bad. u just have to find a new template to feel confortable again... and convine roles if its necesary.

i was like u when the CU came.. and i was crying because, all i like of the fencer was the huge defences.. and now its gone.. well i look into diferent templates and finaly i found one that i love, and is really efective.


So sit 20 minutes, take the prof calc, and start playing with that, and looking at the mods, and then respec to it, and see if u like it.
now, 1 single profession is not enough, u need 2 combat profession convined.

The original posters complaint still seems somewhat valid. What is useful about fencer? Go get swordsman specials for damage, get pike specials for states, get tkm for defense. So, compared to what you can get in other melee trees, I do think fencer came out the weakest, but I'm sticking with it anyway since I'm not trying to get the best template. Is stun baton really the highest DPS melee weapon out of all 4 professions? I think I'm missin something too, if someone thinks fencer will give you the best template.

the original poster seems pretty whiny to me...


at 300 melee/275 ranged defense, you should not be useless, unless you just don't know what you're doing, sorry.


to get to 300 melee defense you had to have stacked with 2 other professions -this should be giving you a lot of useful tools.


but i digress.


what you can take from fencer is improved lunge, cripple (which no other melee gets), the best melee bleed, the best action-suppression attack (bind), and blind - which no other melee gets. i haven't got my best bodyhit yet, so i can't compare the dmg to swordsman specials just yet.


TKM got the kickass innate/cob combination, pick that up if you want awesome defense (or just get impoved cob and wear battle armor). they do not have much in the way of damage. a good stun baton (mine is 495 modified dps and i'm not even master fencer yet) and fencer/sword/pike specials will deal more dmg than TKM specials.


swordsman got some decent attacks - critical, powerhit, headhit - a bleed, and the most useful - armorbreak. some decent defense and the powerhammer is good. for dealing dmg, it's probably the best unless you have an uber weapon in another prof.you get nothing except armorbreak (which is invaluable!) for 'suppressing' your enemy.noactioninhibitors, or debuffs.


pikeman has the same defenses as fencer, but trades blind, crippling, bleeds, and bind for warcry (it's not amazing by any means), intimidate (the basic one isn't amazing), some AE's (these can get you in trouble in pve), and some decently dmg'ing hits.


my point is, none of these professions is fantastic on its own. you need at least one more to give you some more specials and defense/offense numbers.


judging by the modified dps on my stun baton, it should be on par with other profession weapons.


if you want defense, all i can do is recommend mastering TK. you won't be disappointed by the combo.

pick up armor break from swordsman, and knock yourself out.

--i should add that i do think bleed dmg should be turned up, and that cripple should slow things down even more. each profession has some tuning issues, though. warcry and intimidate don't do a whole lot either, and the best TK knuckles are counting as '1hand' weapons.

and to touch on roots - they are beatable, and they are the only thing that make ranged at all viable against melee. i have yet to lose to a rooting-ranged opponent, but the fights are close, as they should be between a triple ranged master and a triple melee master. it all comes down to tactics, starting at food basics and working up to specials and Line of sight.

anyways, that's my personal opinion on the 'fencer being broken' thing. i don'tfeel it's as broken as the original poster makes it out to be.

So let's look at these....

lunge is knockdown with some damage....others have knockdown too tho

cripple...I don't think this really let's you run away and why should you when you are melee

bleed....as stated several times in the posts, body hit does more, ticks so slow and for so little it's almost a waste

bind....this seems broke, I don't know anyone finding this skill useful

blind....yes, my one useful skill, but if I wanted reduced damage...warcry, intimidate, improved CoB, flurry, parry riposte

bodyhit....I believe others have stated that impale is the highest melee damage attack.


See this is the whole problem I think he was getting at. So yeah, it seemed to me that blind is the only unique thing about fencer since bleeds kinda suck. So that's why I think the original poster has a point.

as i mentioned at the end of my post, i agreed that Fencer isn't quite where it should be. But i don't think it's completely broken, i think it just needs tweaking. I liked your analysis -


lunge is knockdown with some damage....others have knockdown too tho imo, fencer lunge should have greater range than the other lunges, and a higher chance to KD (though they all seem to be fairly reliable in the kd department).

cripple...I don't think this really let's you run away and why should you when you are meleehonestly, i use cripple to prevent ranged opponents from running away...

bleed....as stated several times in the posts, body hit does more, ticks so slow and for so little it's almost a waste i agree, it should tick for more. 400-800 every 15-20 seconds.

bind....this seems broke, I don't know anyone finding this skill useful i will have to do some more testing as soon as i get a moment. but i think improved bind should slow down action regen by 25-35%. that should make a noticeable difference.

bodyhit....I believe others have stated that impale is the highest melee damage attack. parry riposte doesn't seem to do anything fantastic (i tested it, doesn't reduce damage and only bounces 15 points back to your enemy). CoB is fantastic, it's the bread and butter of TKM along with innate armor. everyone gets basic cob for 30 seconds though, right? as melee, this should be on 100% of the time. flurry sorta kinda works. it says it's supposed to help you for 120 seconds, it seems to be more like 10 seconds. doesn't reduce dmg (in pve anyways), but i think i see a few more misses. difficult to test. warcry and intimidate aren't very strong either. i will have to test these as well - but i wasn't seeing a noticeable difference in dmg or misses with both of these on.


so yes, i think there's some tweaking to do, but fencer isn't completely borked. 'not up to filling the rolethat'sbeen outlined' isprobably a more reasonable conclusion than "why not just delete the whole profession!?" (imo).
