Thread: Why did you become a Fencer?
To be honest I only truly did fencer because it was one of my holos. I was a BH and I decided to start the Holo grind. MY first 2 said Image Designer and Doc after I grinded those 2 out I was praying for some type of combat profession, Then I got Fencer. I mastered Carbineer first because I was already working on it. I was bit hesitant with doing the profession because I didnt know anything about it and was not a fan of the melee professions. I knew TKM was killer because of some guys in my guild but nothing about the rest. So I started Fencer and I was like hey this is pretty good. Got Novice and was like wow. As I went up the skill tree I understood why melee professions were really good. As I was soloing 12k missions on yavin and 11k missions on dath I really understood how good the profession was. I learned how good it was by doing it. Though I miss the power of an LLC as BH I love fencer. After I mastered it I decided not to do anything else. Now all I want is duel wield, even if it doesnt do any more damage just the look.

Well, while I have not studied it in real life (though I yearn to - can't find anything by me), I have a love of 1 handed swordplay.
I never heard anything about "how l33t fencer was" or anything. This was still while Fencer was SWG's best kept secret.
I just got bored leveling Pistoleer, then Carbineer, and while I wanted ranged really bad, I decided to try melee professions. I tried TKA, but I got bored with the grind just up the unarmed tree to get to it. 2 Handweapon grindingleft me bored as well. And then I found fencer.
I have to say, I took my time with fencer, and didn't mind, as it has steadily been the most fun profession to grind in that I played. I also learned the value of Buffs around the time I began fencer, and that has made a difference as well. I was at the time a Master CH, and I would take my sticks and my pets and go to Mt Chaolt on Lok, and grind off the Droideka Cave. Soon, it came to decision time, and I decided to drop my first love, CH (no longer the profession it once was) for Fencer. It was heartbreaking to let go of my pets that I had been working with for the past 6 months, but let me tell you, now I can say it was worth it. I love fencer, and love the balance it has. I would dare to say that it is the most balanced profession in the game, and an absolute joy to play as, even at master. If more professions are as fun and balanced as we are, I doubt so many people would have left the game.
So that's my story. I wasn't looking to be "uber" (I actually prefer PVE to PVP) or overpowered. I just found a profession I fel in love with. And as long as it remains the profession I love, I will never drop fencer. Ever.
In RL, I've studied Kendo, Fencing, and Filipino knife fighting. Around December, when the Christmas holos were distributed, I grinded CH for a bit, then stopped. That same month, I took a trip to the Force Cave and saw how smooth the Jedis were moving with there scythes and taking down TKM's with ease (I was grind TK at the time).
That day, I picked up Fencer, and dumped all my TK and CH skills, and haven't looked back. I've studied how we work, and I've studied how we affect other combat classes. I'm still not a master, as I've chosen to take my time and learn all about Fencer, and I've learned something new about it every day.
Simply put: Fencer is bad ass, and I'm never dropping it.![]()
I like swords. I don't like batons or sticks (Cops and Cheerleadersare not Fencers), but I like swords. Nothing like hearing that cool vibrodagger sound when you make contact, or the nice white trail behind your blade when you do a special. Its all about the mentality of the swordsman that attracts me to Fencer.
Now if we could only get a full length sword...a full length vibroblade maybe...hint hint.
