Thread: Weapons weapons weapons. ( the future )
Reason of this post: To bring ideas from Raph's post of the future of fencer, to discuss weapons specifically and in detail, to keep that post from flooding on one subject. Lets get specific and discuss many different things.
Dual weapons: Something that has been on a wishlist ever since Minerunner was correspondant.
- How should it work: The easiest way I think would just make new crafting schematics, that would just give the image of holding 2 weapons. And apply the Mod's necessary to them to make the weapon balanced. Then putting the certificate in a proper place in the Fencer tree.
- Advantages: Higher damage output ( slightly ) Melee defense MOD on craft.
- Disadvantages: Low accuracy, higher HAM cost, certain specials not available while holding dual weapon.
- New Specials: Would have to almost do this to keep it balanced, with new schematic would come with new special only useable while holding Dual weapon, and no other specials available to it. Instead of the new schematic regarding itself as a onehanded weapon it would be a dual onehanded weapon. Could control accuracy with this as well, makeing a whole new accuracy MOD specifically for dual weapon.
Crafting: Something else that has been talked about since release of SWG in the fencer and all of melee proffesions was custum looks of melee weapons.
- Hilts
- Blade
- Scabbard
- Details
- Color
Thrown Weapons: Self explanitory, should melee have some type of thrown weapon? Such as grenades work extingishable schematics with short range.
The legendary Rantok Sword: Is the quest broke? the only way to get it is by NOT compleating the mission and not giving the sword to Jabba. Should it be craftable? Maybe a new item like the NS energy lance scroll for pikeman?
Weapon specific functions: bleed bonus mods, dizzy mods, knockdown mods, accuracy mods ( on all atm ) Should one weapon be more effective at a certain task than another?
Thats it for now lets discuss what do you all think?

I like most of it except for the double weapons the second u got it the pistoleersand bounty hunterswould be crying that they should get it b/cause of the movies.
if they followed something along the lines of what I just said /shrug so what, it wouldnt be overpowering. Maybe it would have the same graphics as 2 Scatter Pistols, but not the damage of 2 scatter pistols ( like 500 dmg on average )
should pistols have dual wield why not? i think they should as well.
No no no no no thrown weapons.
None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
jmo.
And weilding two weapons should not increase damage. In most instances the second weapon is used defensively. Your dominant (more powerful) hand holds the offensive weapon.

Untill this happens, maybe they can change one of our titles to "Bobby"..since alot of us run around with our stun batons looking like english cops

Good topic!
I have some ideas for our weapons as well. But I don't want to taint the soup. After the majority have posted their thoughts, I'll toss my ideas in the pot.
I'd be more interested in seeing scabbards put into play than new weapons.
Standard Scabbards for the sword types, and baton rings for the batons...
Makes equiping a belt worthwhile otherwise the scabbard would look like it was floating from your side...
Though I would give up my backpack for a back scabbard. or two. Crossed Scabbards one Ryyk one Curved, with one scabbard on my left hip for my Rantok (would have a slit down the outside to acommadate for the blade studs) and on the back right of my character's waist would be the baton ring for my stunbat.
Though I would settle for one side scabbard slot and one back scabbard slot.

I would like to see one around your leg that you can put your knife into also... but ya duel wielding should be allowed for those who only use one handed weapons... it seems like a good idea to me.. i wish this should so go threw...ME, i would settle for duel wielding and scabbard slots instead of new weapons...

Precisely. Give us a main gauche or some other sort of light, defensive-oriented off-hand weapon. Perhaps damage could be augmented slightly, as the off-hand weapon is incorporated into various special attacks. Perhaps this could open the doorway into a new special ability: a feint with either the offhand or primary weapon, which lowers the opponent's defenses slightly for the follow-up attack, or perhaps an attack is incorporated into the feint, itself. A very accurate attack, but one that does not do quite as much damage as most specials, for balancing purposes.
This has been said before, but I'll reiterate here: in most MMORPGs, indeed most RPGs, the main advantage of using a one-handed weapon is that you can use a shield in your offhand. The gungans (*shudder*) of TPM possessed vaguely medieval shields, albeit, of course, with vastly-improved defensive capabilities. Perhaps fencers could get some sort of "energy buckler", heh.
Hmm... purely for balancing purposes, I don't think throwing weapons or the like should be incorporated into melee professions.
I like the idea of weapon customization, though. Most games overlook this. In fact, I think the only game I've ever played with the ability to make aesthetic alterations of weapons was Jedi Academy, which, for those who haven't played it,only has a limited selection of hilt styles (no variations of color or details on hilt models) and the ability to choose blade color. Also, I'd love to see customizable scabbards. Various patterns, markings and designs would go a ways to distinguishing the owner of the sword and scabbard. Of course, if we really want our scabbards and blades to intimidate people, we should start by balancing their statistics a bit more.

Or maybe they were more Classical. Bleh. I can't remember. Wow, I'm taking up a lot of space with separate posts that should have been consolidated into one. Sorry.
my thoughts on 2 weapons.
If im reading/remembering Raph's faq correctly on the various melee weapons out there. Ours was ok in certain circumstances, but as soon as we hit that 1 second mark, our weapons went down hill at a drastic rate. So instead of them (the devs) having to recode a speed adjustment for the fencer class, why not add the secondary weapons as an alternative to gain what dps we lose due to the 1 second rule, by allowing for an adjusted incrementation in damage by the secondary weapon.
I would be easier to make a schematic that "looks" like 2 weapons when held, but how many of you are in this profession for the "ease" of it? Im here for the looks, Im here for the style, and maybe I want to use a specific weapon with a secondary off hand weapon that completly isnt what the schematic setup looks like?
great suggestions so far tho!! lets keep this up
