Thread: With no more defense stacks in Publish, what will be your choice for second profession?

Hi all,

First off, I'm new to the Fencer profession. I just hit novice today, and look forward to making my way towards master . When I first started off, my plan was to dabble in TKA (like many do) for the defense stacks, but with the upcoming publish, I'm not sure this is a good idea. I'll probably still go 4400 in TKA for the meditation and defenses versus stun/dizzy/etc. What are all of your thoughts? Am I looking at this the wrong way?

The changes to defence stacking goes across the boards to all types of defence... This is what I am hearing from certain sorces. So for you to be able to stack secondary, pirmary or defences in resistances will no longer be valible....

I am already set for publish 7's changes an I have no need to change anything. An I am already preping for it so I am on top of the pvp game as a fencer ^-^

I thought it was just dodge/counterattack/block that wasn't stacking with this patch??

The nerf is for secondary Defenses only. This means No more dodge, counter attack or block over 125. It also effects Def vs State attacks but you'd be hard pushed to get one of these over 125 (my highest is 120) although it can be done. Melee and Range Defenses are not effected in this.


But....The rumour has it that Range and Melee defenses are already capped at 125 (apparently there is already a skill cap of 125 it just didn't effect Secondary defense skills) but no one wants to confirm this, no devs anyway. There is also meant to be a permanent 10% chance of success with any state attack. So stacking a "Def vs" skills high is would be pointless. Again I have read no confirmation on this.


My current Template Blademaster, Master Brawler, TK 2,3,0,4, Pistoleer 0,0,4,0, Medic 2,0,0,0

My dodge is 115 but Defense versus KD is 120. My Melee defense is around 150. I could drop have dropped medic and used the extra 20pnts on more Defense and more Dodge but the ability to self heal for 500 at a time and stop bleeds is far too useful.


Publish 7 is going to have a big effect on me but because of the Warcry nerf and not Defense Stacking. Whether I will drop Master Brawler or no remains to be seen on what the do with at come Patch day. Losing my 20mtr KD from Lunge2 will hurt but I don't think that alone is worth the 34sp's I am spending on it.


If anyone can point me to Posts by Dev's confirming or Denying anything I just said about the Hard Caps, please do.


Second professions don't mean you are going to be effected by this but if you are and want to remove a stacked combat profession for something else, look at Master Doctor. You won't need to resist everything, then. You can just heal it

I am Blademaster, and 3444 Doc - soon to be master, I find that is good, maybe not the best, but certainly fun - and a good money maker.

I wonder if I'm an odd one out, but seeing the caps on defenses placed actually makes me want to be a fencer even more. Maybe I'll see less people with gaffi sticks and stun batons, and they can search for a profession they can enjoy, instead of a profession where they will be made 'elite'.

A few people up stated they "thought" that Melee/ranged defense was cap'd at 125 or 150, this is not true.



The defense stackers "stackers" wont really get effected by this update, if it only works on secondaries, mainly because dodge is the ONLY secondary that WORKS Block/CA Dont work, it "SAYS" they do, but you still take damage, which makes them useless imho.



The pistolierre/fencer dodge stacking, isnt to big of a deal, Every profession has a way around secondary defenses, its just nobody uses the proper hits. Pistolierre/fencers are powerful, yes, but considering the, uselessness of pistolierre (Half the shots dont work, no "real" targeted pool, bodyshot3 does same/less then 2) does not warnt them to be a true threat, atleast I have never ran across a pure pistolierre or a pistol/fencer that was a "true threat" above what a plain mstr fencer was.



Now, that I have stated, correctly, that Dodge/CA/Block are avoidable(With meele professions, ranged has no "free-bie" around secondaries except for carbineer), im sure Eva will flame and rant and rave due to her inability to do basic math, or understand the advantages of hits.



What needs to be done, is armor needs to be balanced, mind damage needs to be re-worked, due to the fact that it is what pvp is truly center'd around, and melee/ranged defense needs to be looked at, if your mstr fencer and 0-0-0-4 tka for example, your EXTREAMLY hard to hit, even for another TK (200+ accuracy I belive?).



Those are the issues that need to be readdressed, But hey, far be it for me to think, I have a pink bike now

I'll be what I was before anyone discovered defense stacking, a Fencer/CH. It's what I enjoy. I don't PvP at all so I don't regret the "loss of power" due to not stacking. Besides the mythical combat balance pass may make Creature Handlers a threat in PvP again, then I'll get to be a FotM at last!


In any event I hope that the combat balance destroys the power of class stacking as we know it. Being a Fencer/Pistoleer should not make you a better Fencer, or a better Pistoleer. It should give you more utility, NOT more power.

JEBUS you people relie on def stacking that bad, that when you lose it its going to hurt your build. AS long as you gut armor/buffs/foods def will never matter.

I am a master pistoleer/master fencer with the pistol tree in smuggler. I will never give up this template, I absolutely love it. And for all those that say pistoleer is 50% broken, you could not be more wrong. Most people just don't experiment enough to learn what the shots actually do (the problem is the names and descriptions need to be updated to reflect more accuratley what the shots do). And the pistoleer defenses match very well with the fencer, cap or no cap it is a very good combination, especially if your quarry decides to bolt. Body shot 3 is my favorite shot, I hit it off at the speed cap, it consistantly does more dmg than bs2 for me in pistoleer. Surprise, in fencer I love body hit 3 for the same reason I love body shot 3.
