Thread: Are we that weak?!?!?

Hi, I'm new to the fencer community and I have a quick question.
Are Fencers a weak combat profession?
I'm speaking from a strictly PvE standpoint here.
I have been reading through this forum andoften (very often) whenevera certain place/quest/dungeon ismentioned it is usually followed by "don't try and solo this unless you are a Master Swordsmanor Pikeman or TKM/(fill in the blank) mix.
Ismaster fencer so weak we can't solo anything evenhigh levelcreatures?
I know you need to mix any combat prof to be well rounded andI personally am working toward :
Master Fencer
TKM
Pistoleer 0/0/4/4
Medic 0/0/1/0
but are fencers that weak on offense that they need support for tough spots?

To take on most high level dungeons with your template, you will be going unarmed 90% of the time. Fencer damage output is not comparable. DWB, tanks=fencer? No. Corvette, tanks=fencer? No. Better to have a combat medic around throwing stims and swordsmen to do the damage if your goal is to actually kill the MOBs in these places. Fencer's role is currently a bit off, but hopefully we'll be fixed soon...

our lack of AP kills us in pve. I mean theres a lotta mobs that have medium armor..and a fencer weap wont even touch that. If you want pve...yes go swordsman, if you wana solo like almost anything in the game,....swordsman is awesome. I have fencer and Swordsman, i like the stun baton for some reason....but yeah we need another rare awesome weapon like swordsman have....they have the scythe....rifleman get the disrupter rifle....pistoleer gets sonic blaster....why dont we get some kinda awesome sword WITH AP....so yes pve fencer is weak

Erm, I may have have a lone standpoint here, but the highest level dungeons arn't supposed to be done solo, imho.
If that was the case there would be no challange for people who prefer acting together with friends (like I do).

you made a point, i agree. such dungeons are for groups, not solo.
BUT
i'd like to be an asset to the group as a master fencer.

Remember we will be getting Raphayl's blade, may she rest in peace. So it should do her honor and from what Minerunner said about how he hounded the devs about this during the summit we should all be very happy with how it turns out.

Yes, fencer is not a PvE profession. Most people with fencer tend to PvP more, because of all the Defense bounses. Although, with those damn DoT weapons, most pvpers go pikeman, for that nice, uber, 200 str mind poison/fire. Its complete crap that the devs made crap like that...total noobs can own now....So yea, if you want a PvE template, go Teras Kasi and swordsman.

Heard a few places (rumormill only, but maybe it'll happen) that DOT weapons will get the same 75% PVP damage reduction as normal damage in the future. If that's the case, fotm will change again. Lol, only time will tell. Kind of the beauty of a mmorpg, "gameplay subject to change."

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I also enjoy grouping and think that there are certain places that you shouldn't be able to solo. I was just wondering due to the fact that I can't play that often (usually one buff session a night 5-6 nights a week) and its hard toorganize groupstuff with that limited schedule. It would be nice to be able to due high level missions for good cash and not worry about cloning after some Janta hands me my butt though.

Oh, no worries there. You can do any missions given by the mission terminals with master fencer with no problems at all - straight up through enraged rancors. The biggest beef with fencer at the moment is that when you get a group together to go to say the death watch bunker, you need tanks, damage dealers, healers etc. Well, you'd think that the best defense profession in the game would be your tank, but with the way fencer is currently coded, we do no better than any other melee profession against the likes of SBD's and we deal so little damage that we're not useful. So, you see ads for "Group for dwb, need riflemen, doctors, combat medics, and swordsmen." Well, fencer should be the tank that keeps the aggro from the monsters so that others can deal damage, but as things are now, we get his as much as anyone else, so we're not on the list...

what does that mean?
I'm just about to become a master fencer , and have been looking forward to tanking some of the higher level mobs..... Not with the intention of dealing damage , but by dodging almost every hit , taunting alot , and throw a few states here and there while the damage dealers actually finish the mob off....
are you saying with our increased dodge and defensive ability's , we're still at the same level as TKA's , Swordsman , pikeman etc etc??
that's kind of a let down.....

Yes, I am unfortunately, but saying that, it's only conditional. In regular pvp, we are dodging, tanking machines. When killing rancors, jantas, mokks, nym's, ewoks, and other normal creatures, our defenses protect us and make us thedodging, bobbing, and weavinguntouchables that we desire to be. But, the way things work right now, accuracy seems to be on a purely sliding scale with MOBs like SBD's have such high accuracy that they never miss, regardless of our dodge mods. So, we get hit the same number of times as TKA's and swordsmen, except that they negate more of the damage with toughness and deal more damage, so are much more desireable parts of the crew.

what does that mean?
