Thread: Not complaining, just confused...
The patch notes showed that all melee class but us are having HAM costs reduced.
Why are the one handed grouped being skipped? Did we already get our costs lowered or do they feel our's are low enough already?
Not really sure why we were not lowered with the other 3 types of melees.
OMG! I am not one to complain either.... but wth? I noticed this as well... it's bad enough that ranged weapons deal disproportionally more damage with less HAM costs ar similar levels... now not only have we been ignored with the HAM redection, our KD has been nerfed...
Is this because we don't have a correspondent? Isn't there anyone else willing to take the job?

It's pretty ridiculous...we've been missing a correspondent since day one.
I don't think we have a lack of willing people who will step up to the correspondent position, it's just seems SOE is ignoring them and doesn't deem it necessary to appeasing their customers with any comments either in the matter.
) dueled twice..and I couldnt do a posture change on him to save my life.
He using a pistol method of knock down..could not knock me down either..it was only until he used his sword could he make me change positions and still i would not fall from dizzy.
I could be wrong..but I think our class is a class of Defense against. It's the only other explanation-because yeah, this last patch will make it a hella lot harder to fight stronger NPCS.
Just tried this with a carbineer.
I have Master footwork and I evaded 1 in 10 KD attempts..... the other 9 landed just fine ![]()
Only tried 10 hits though, will test more later ![]()

Obviously we are being 'depriortized' because we basically, as a group, do not complain. I think we need to compose an intelligent post, and put it on the Dev board. We can all then bump the post to keep it active. If we work as a united front- perhaps NEXT time, we won't be left in thecommando's dirt. I'd be happy to write something, but I am not knowledgeable about the intricacies of calculating HAM costs, weapon speeds, etc.
Is there someone willing to write an intelligent plea that offers constructive feedback? (Lyahpar?? please??) I'd hate for it to deteriorate into a bunch of threats to 'quit', but, based on the quality of the posts here, I don't see that happening.
Thoughts everyone?

i am a BladeMaster(master fencer) and a Master Brawler on Bria server... and this new patch is really bull**edit**.... not only did they nerf us fencers some more.... but they continue to ignore our issues... such as dodge not working... our damage and weapons not even close to those of other classes... did u know that my novice TKA(0-1-0-0) does more basic dmg thenmy blademaster? yea its true.... pathetic aint it..... a sword doing less dmg then freaken fists.........not to mention they now get a range of 5 to their attacks with their puny little knucklers... while we have a **edit** sword/dagger and can sometimes only hit from 4 yes!! FOUR!!!!.... i mean **edit** is wrong with this..... not only can i not solo any red mobs anymore......... i can barely kill things with 7k life........ this is really pathetic.......... and they seem to always be fixing those other melee classes.... **edit** r they doing with ours??? oh yeah..... they lessen the ham cost of the gaffi stick. BIG FAWKEN DEAL...... who really uses that POS(piece-of-sh!t) weapon anyways.... i for sure dont..... they really need to start addressing the fencer issue.... because fencers has been weakest classand r now even weaker then they were before.... this just pisses me off.... bull**edit** patch i say....... BULL**edit**!!

Ok, I have never complained about anything they have changed to date so far, and I used to be a CH. I think for the post part SOE has tried to help everyone and keep things balanced, but I can't help but complain this time. I am a Fencer/Ranger. I took Ranger so I could be effective in fighting animals and NPC's both. As I made fencer I was able to take down some tough NPC's using lung and knockdown of course. With the addition of Scot traps, and using lunge I was able to do well against Creatures...I rarely lose against a creature that cons white (even), but since the patch I am FAR less effective. I have not lost much against NPC's (assuming knockdown works), but I can't kill some creatures that con blue even using evbery trap I have....1 lunge per 30 seconds? No chance of dropping anything to prone (for maximum damage) and keeping them kneeling is not likely at all, I have never believed in giving up a profession because of little nerfs, etc, but I am seriously considering giving up Fencer....I think I could do a whole lot more damage and be more effective against both NPC or Creature in another profession...I was willing to give up some of the damage we lose compared to other melee, but why be a fencer if I can't kill anything anymore?
Anyone have some advice?
Now I could be wrong; but I thought that:
1) complaints were made to the respective correspondant
2) correspondant would then take player concerns to the
DEVS.
1 and 2 in our case wont work because we dont have a Correspondant.
I remember sometime ago; to get the DEVS attention someone tried to bump as you suggested. They indeed got a DEVS attention; but not the desired response. The response was along the lines of "Badddd player", we know what you are trying to do...so dont.
I think that this patch was the DEVS way of starting from scratch because lets face it..if everyone could KD and our different unique defenses did not work (dodge etc) than what good is our or any other melee classes profession? Pikeman..BH...all have gotten hit hard by this.
I applaud the fact that they also took it away from gun users for the most part.
to my understanding a player will only be able to KD affect once every 30 secs and only be KD'd for 5 secs. max (Tuskens seem to get up in 2)..And thats across the board.
I think they're going to work on KD affects (including lounge +dizzy combo) and re-intro it later..but this time each class will have a specific KD affect time etc. just my thoughts on this.

Got to say we've really been handed a s**t sandwich here. I didn't realise the knockdown was such a big bonus to us and unbalanced the game to the level where it had to be overhauled. It's not like there are that many of us at the moment either, most fencers have to pay for training on top of all other cost because of the rarity and the availablity.
I'm tempted to give up on this, but I've put the time and effort into it and so don't want to give up. Played today and was immediately dissappointed with the patch and to be honest stoped playing after about 30 minutes.
It's not really fair to take something without giving something back. The HAM costs, well yipee, we're gonna need all the HAM we can get to take on even con yellow individuals, forget mobs now. Stun batons, hmm, they should have been like this anyway surely!
Comparing our class to others we are well down, probably the worst melee class now. I would have been happier if all melee classes had similar nerfs, but we really seem to have been singled out.
Also I understood that when taking on a fencer that I would be probably less effective than a good ranged player, but ranged really seem to get the best of both worlds.
Now enough moaning and I'll leave anyone else to continue, this is what I want to see done to improve MY class, get the fun back and to be accomplished in my profession on the same level as my peers :
1) Fencers are quick, make us quicker, no cap on speed, we are supposed to be the quickest melee class. Teras Kasi use a combination of directed power and technique, we use finesse and speed to both avoid hits and deal damage. We need to be quicker and be able to dodge (come on devs, please get it to work).
2) Weapons, well all I can say what a boring bunch of metal we have to select from. Stun batons... hmm great, recently improved, but that's the only real departure. I WANT the following :
a) Eppee's (or however they are spelt) highly fast weapons that blind as quick as they are drawn, Very light, able to be used with the minimum of HAM (maybe mind more as the amount of concentration). Damage isn't high it' s an effect weapon able to deal out effect damage to enemies with very low chance of failure.
b) Whips - This would be very cool, a one handed weapon with a long range! Imagine a electric whip, disarm of enemies at a range, catch their legs, they are down. Creatures are intimidated by whips, so the skill mod to suit. This is a great weapon and would be the envy of most other classes. Remember it's posted here DEV'S.... IT'S FOR US ONE HANDERS YOU HEAR?? What a great enhancement to CH class (not that i advocate this behavior).. Give CH the pets they want, but with this weapon they have to work at keeping their pets in line. Give a lot more popularity to this class and therefore strengthen and widen the appeal.
c) We have daggers, what about switchblades. We get the upper hand, they are quick to pull out so get the first attack in immediately. We need this type of thing to be true our class, QUICK.
d) what about a sword and net, Like a roman gladiator? The NET can be cast with one hand and then we can use our one handed swords in conjunction.
e) Shields... Surely we shouild get hand held shields? Maybe more cosmetic and not exactly true to the time, but they would allow us to distinguish ourselves from other classes. Chewbacca made a class in one of the Han Solo novels to hunt for his wife to be, so not exactly an alien (excuse the pun) idea.
f) We use one hand, what can the other hand be used for... Why not two swords? I struggle to find things on the board with the search function, so please excuse me if this has been posted before. I also am aware of the programatical problems with implementation, but that's not my problem, I'm here to shoot out some ideas. Maybe we can used unarmed attacks with the other hand to grab opponents round the neck to increase damage.
g) Lightsabres ha ha just joking...
3) Watch the films, what else do swordsmen do, that's right they use their feet to knockdown opponents increase their ability to use their weapons. We need kick attacks for posture changes.
4) Fencers seem to have a nobilty within the class. They are trained professionals who highly regard their skills and train hard to work within rules. Fencing IRL is a very tough, but carefully regimented sport. Thoroughout history fencers have been regarded by the nobility as a class devoted to their sport. The upshot I can see from this is perhaps we should be able to get faction more easily as a reward for our professionalism and respect for the weapons we use. Maybe fencing could be a pre-requistite to a nobility class? Also we should be able to wear speciality clothing which shows our alligencies to guild etc.
5) Creature mounts. I shudder to think how we are going to be nerf'ed by using creatures. We are one handed, so we have one hand available to attack, the other to control. This does not apply to carbine, rifle or two handed, but I can't see these classes having the restrictions applied due to the popularity.
6) In the books there are firearm free areas on certain planets, maybe melee calsses would not be affected in the same way as people with ranged weapons. Cloudity for one is a place where blasters are confiscated. Just trying to float some ideas here, maybe on retrospect this is one of the strongest.
So just a few ideas to keep the discussion going. I'm fairly new to fencing, but was excited by the prospect, now not so. I understand the weighting towards pistols, blasters etc is more true to the time, but lets face it, not the whole galaxy has the resources or ability to use these type of weapons so I still think we are a valid class which I hope to support.
I see there is talk of a new correspondent, while not certainly very experienced, I am passionate about making sure the few who have chosen this path are enjoying the game. Heck I could be yet another bounty hunter, but wanted to be different and role play a bit. SOE should be grateful there are people like us in fencing who want to reinforce not just our own profession, but the game as a whole. I may stand for the correspondent later in the week as I have the time available, but would be happier to support someone who is experienced and can ensure the ongoing support and development resource to what we are trying to do in the game.
So dev's if you read this stuff, let us know, reply, throw us a bone, make sure we aren't the forgotten class. I understand you hear this type of thing on all the profession boards (expect Jedi, maybe call this 'I found something I don't understand board') but you guys got to agree we don't get all the bells and whistles of CH, BH or even the artisan classes. We make money by fighting, and being good at fighting. So I'm willing to let the changes of this patch pass by for now, but come the next patch if there are no enhancements for us, I will be a lot more vociferous in my critisim of the way we have been treated.
Please fencers, let me know your thoughts, ideas. i want us to be fair and on level at high levels with other classes, currently we are not, especially post recent patch!
