Thread: My right hand? For Fencing! My left? Well...
We only use 1 hand, right?
What happens to the other hand?
Perhaps a shield? Thoughts?
Precicely.
Anyone up to speed on current trends is bound to know of the little energy shields those close relatives of mine, the gungans, use.
Raufo Dorlax of Gorath (And formerly Flurry), perhaps the only Mon Calamari Fencer in the game, would like to see some shiels for our fine, elegantly brutalclass.

I actually am not a Star Wars fan in the sense that I know all races etc. I've seen a few movies. The shields just seemed like common sense to me.
a shield sounds kinda cool, perhaps another sword sounds better
Dual wielding sounds awesome, but a shield to help with defensive sounds good too, it's a toss up, but I would rather have 2 swords to swing and do more damage.
I dont think shields would help the kiting issues. It may be able to block a few shots but a kiter can kite you until he feels like stopping.
Well okay, but I want the shield to use with my pistol too.
Oh wait, I'm too busy using my other hand for... never mind.
I agree with the above post - your off hand is for balance - ever see a fencer use a shield ? No but you sure see him using his off hand for balance.

In European fencing (foils and whatnot) you hold the sword in front of you and your balancing hand behind, usually.
In Midieval times with longswords and traditional "fantasy game"weapons where you use a shield, you use swings from the side and above using your shoulders more than piercing quick jabs.
Japanese kendo style seems to have been incorporated into Heavy Swordsman with the "Two Handed Curved Sword" (Even though our curved sword looks almost exactly the same excepting size).
Basically that leaves Chinese swordfighting for what the 'Fencer' class is based on, and incorporating some aspects of the former, though I know much less aboutChinese style than the former 3so I couldn't say for sure.
Our 'Dodge' animation (if you are lucky enough to have ever seen it) is just us bending slightly at the knees and teleporting back a bit before moving forward again, implying we jumped back, but our off-hand still doesn't really move to indicate balance of any kind.
I think our other hand needs to be doing something rather than just hanging out in the front. It looks like it is being used to ward off our opponent but that seems ridiculous tosacrifice your arm (in every fight).
Solutions for this hanging arm, can be to either strap a shield on it, make it move believably, or give usa second weapon. Another possibility is a skill that converts the next damage we take to the Action pool thus utilizing the blocking arm theory, but I don't think that is a good solution.
Obviously if they give us a second weapon we won't be using normal weapons, it may be possible to make "Parrying Daggers" which do low capped damage but also give us some more defense. Perhaps give all parrying daggers a significant negative modifier to One Hand speed, so we have options.
Anyway, I'd like to learn more about Chinese swordfighting if anyone knows if our class mimics it. (I believe it was mentioned that combat moves were motion-captured, and yes I know some moves are just for show and wouldn't really be useful but they can't all be that way.)
