Thread: Do melee folks have a viable response to root??

I'm a Master TK/Master Fencer/Master Swords - and 9 times out of 10, I will fall to a ranged...


I know I can shorten the amount of time I'm rooted by switching to a ranged weapon and doing the basic ranged attack, but too much damage is done (to me), and too much time is wasted, and I'm not able to do my real damage-giving melee attacks...


Has anyone found a method to effectively combat concussion shot?

Hmmmmm, 10 times out of 10 will beat a ranged person, simply because they don't do enough dmg quick enough so that I can't heal it. As fencer you get a snare, which helps in a prolonged fight I s'pose. Typically I'll get rooted, wait till the root breaks, and burstrun to my opponent, follow it up with an armor break, the a KD, then unleash as much dmg as I can. Works most of the time, actually all the time, but I do see what you are saying. But basically eat burstrun enhanicng foods to close the gap between you and the ranged opponent.

CoB for the win, half the time they miss, the rest of the time they hit for nothing whihc can be healed up. Parwin cake for instant burst run = one dead ranged chump


Only the best kiters can control me and in that case I run into a building. Fighting a good kiter in the open is stupid.

You haven't fought very good ranged. Recently I've run across a few narrowly defeatable ranged players, most being Rifleman/Smugglers or Rifleman/CM. With their roots and snares and delays, its almost impossible to get close to them.

Only just yesterday, I fought a Rifleman/CM, who must of had some smuggler, who had bought KD defense CAs. The duel was impossible to win, I didn't lose because I just had to run out of site, but there was no way of reaching him. The fact was, I could be rooted by him, I could be delayed by him, and through his CM, he could snare me. So whenever I used my Snare on him, he kindly returned the favor and I never got any closer. Even scarfing parwan nutricakes failed me.

There are just some classes we have a hard to impossible time with, it's annoying, but we have to lose sometimes.

make sure you can heal, CoB and wait for him to make a mistake...MCM+rifleman is a tough one for sure...but if its 1vs1...they cant win against me..they just cant...i can take dmg from them untill server resets and have full bars...doc buffs for regen and heal the hits...ive dueled a few of them, if i cant get a well timed burst run and close that gap then ill just crawl my way to a wall or building and wait for them to try to get a Line of Sight...when i think they are near enough, burst in and kd...after that its usually over for them. if i cant catch them, rinse and repeat...eventually they get sloppy and u can nab em

if its pvp and ur outnumbered...specially if a melee guy is on you while the rifleman is pickin away at you then ur kinda assed out...best run away and try to get them when they seperate lol

Im the same build and i can take anything that isnt a CM and most jedi's. its all about how you time CoB. my opener against ranged ppl is KD, cripple and then armor break. I do the KD just so i can get the other 2 attacks off before they are up. even if you miss KD as long as you get cripple on them then they are screwed until they get that root off. By that time you should have done enought damage to finish or for them to have to feal themselfs and regen

I have fought several rifle/cm and rifleman/bh and rifleman/smuggler blah blah, and haven't lost to a single one of them. In fact, with my current template, I've only lost a handful of times period, to full temp jedi. I'm not bragging, but I'm just trying to show that anything is possible. Practice practice practice. With your template, if you get rooted, make sure you have improved CoB + sword flurry and they will rarely even hit you. I am TKM with some fencer, some swordsman, and some doctor and I love it. Blade of Nyenth'osis or whatever its called...FTW. =)


You aren't losing because of root, you are losing because you have no medical skills.

After posting yesterday i did some thing and redid my build. Currently TK/Fencer/Pike xx4x/Medic xx4x. I have noticed that my defence is about 60-70 lower then my old build (3 elites) but now when rooted I am able to heal and not wasting my stims healing when i could need then later

I did some tests...well, actually I was just messing around a bit. Anyways, for a few duels I tried without parwan nutricake to increase my burst run. If the range was a good kiter, I couldn't catch him and just had to end the duel. With parwan nutricake 2/3 times I won, the third time it was just a really good rifleman who knew how to play against melee.

You all are lucky hard to find a ranged person who will duel on my server at least. like you all said before CoB for the win!!! Also using the attack we have that slows down there attack speed and gives them a snare (dohh cant remeber what there called) right off the bat works. Cuz they either going to use KD or root lol. Parwin cake also is great. The other thing i find is how the "carbineers" sometimes are dumb enough to stay in range of lunge. also when i get board i throw one of the low level nades at them while i wait for root to ware off

I'm a tkm/swordsman/doc 4000, I dueled a cm/something ranged, not sure what, but they just stood there toe to toe with me, didn't run.and I lost. horribly.


First they kd'd me, then paralyze, then thyroid rupture, lit me on fire, poisoned me, and then nuked the crap out of me, i had very little time to do much other than heal myself, I did get some good hits in, but I was being outhealed while the fire and poison worked me over.


the duel lasted about 45 seconds.


sad to say, I lost.
