Thread: Disscussion: Fencer Weaknesses outside of the AP issues...
This is really for the sake of balance, keep in mind that while there are alot of things the real life fencers do that this is a game that requres balance in the profs and as such we do need to have weaknesses.
Personally i think the fact that we go insane from spamming specials is quite a weakness and also quite funny at the same time (going insane = high mind costs on specials)
Fencer is doing quite well. It may be true TKA might have slight advantage, but TKA can't do what fencers can. Fencers have area-dizzy and area-blind. This is far more useful than having KD. (Fencers got far better defense than any other profs. You all know that.)
Special HAM cost isn't so bad. Most of fencer weapons have fairly low mind cost. Stun Baton is an exception, but you do NOT need to use it all the time. Even so you can use Brandly/Canape like all other combat profession. (Rifleman mind HAM cost is far more excessive. TKM Melee3 HAM cost is pretty large with VK.)
What Fencer lack is two things.
1. We need style. Our weapons are ... ugly.
2. We could use different damage type. (Or your detested thing called AP!)
TKAs want and know they can't have different damage type. Since their damage deal capability will make problems in conjunction with different damage type. But fencers don't have problem with damage capability. Fencers are designed to be low-damage high-def prof. However, the advent of UBER MOBs and 80-90%/35-40% stun composites with 40-50% stun PSGs, fencers are effectively "no"-damage high-def prof.
Personally, (1) has more importance to me. Had been a fencer for 3-4 months and I realized our weapons are ... not so aethetically pleasing (nicer way to say ugly). We would love a new different looking weapon. (I don't call a mace good-looking ... so crude. Might as well pick a stone and use it. I could use an elegant-looking weapon.)

i'm looking for disscussions on where our flaws are and/or what you think they should be. Lets try to stay off the weapons topic and where we are strong (unless you put down a weakness too)
Mostly this is just to get things thought out and see what the community thinks. I know its hard to prolly think like that but overall i think it will not only help us better preform as fencers, the new fencers, the soon to be fencers, but also the Dev team and our Correspondant.
With every possitive there must be a negative, at least in a game with pvp. Its how balance *cough* is created.

Did you ever think that this is because of our weapons ? Your beating on the same horse.
Yes we have to spam more because our good weapons have no AP butright now thats not a big issue. A buff and some food and your fine. Fencer is one of those Professions that actually works. With CoB & some Dodge food we can Tank most high end mobs in this game, we can't kill them but we can stand in there.
Without a decent Acklay Bone we have the weakest weapons made but our Defenses allow us to stand in there long enough to beat our opponents to death. Stacked with the right professions we are annoying as hell to Jedi and any other PvP'er .
Fencer is fun plain and simple.

Why? With 85% kinetic resists and buffs TK really is nothing. Keep them intimidated and you really have nothing to worry about. I just really don't understand the preocupation with TKM. Maybe a few months ago but now any good pvp'er will be well prepared against them.

I don't view it as the same horse at all. Seperate from weapon HAM cost the specials have a price all their own to use them from what i can tell. Beyond that the Dead Horse of a weapon issue is that of an AP and the graphical design.
Another weakness of the fencer in my view is that our defenses arn't quite enough at times. Personally I still get KD/Dizzy'd an awful lot even as master. TKA's get the Equilibrium and I feel something similar would be proper for the fencer to symbolize them being light footed and bouncing around in combat. Simply, i don't think we are defensive enough currently.
That is the only downside that i see is the defense isnt quite enough to me either. I think that the fact that a speedy fencer has to wear bulky composite to last in PvP isnt reasonable and doesnt really make sense. Also sometimes i wonder if state defenses really work as well as they shouldto begin with.
