Thread: The only strategy that seems to work. From a Blademasters experiances

I have been around the block a few times in SWG. I have after a LOT of time figured out about the only working strategy to kill higher end NPC's. It uses up most of your skill points, but it lets you actually kill things with your sword.

The trick is to become a master CH first, and get the most ferocious pet you can find. Apparentlyferocious pets are good at grabbing agro from mobs.

My strategy is to send in a rancor, frenzied graul, or arachne webmaster. After a hit I go in and low and behold the monster usually ignores me for quite some time (enough time to gain the upper hand).

This allows me to solo enraged Kimos and the like. I usually play with my medic friend who heals my pets after every fight, but you can easily get some medic skills yourself to do that.

Currently we have no real alternatives. Pets can outrun kiting PC's and NPC's. Use your pets. If you are facing 3 stormtroopers, send in your rancor. All the stormies attack the rancor. Then you can actually get to one of the stormtroopers without it running to kingdom come. Surprisingly they don't seem to kite you if you bash them a few times. Im not sure if its because of the pets presense, but it works!

Anyways I hope this helps you out. Its not optimal, but it gets the job done.

You know it's sad when we have to unleash the fury of the Ringling Brothers Circus on an enemy to kill it...ugh!

The same with me, i played ad&d, dungeon siege, diablo2 and others like them. always was the sword character type. Now off that roleplaying basis i have created a rebel pirate guild on kauri. We own I havent fired a gun yet on this character, been using a sword since day 3 of the game. I think we are overlooked sometimes but we definetly have power in this game, keep on leveling and u will get that skill. Im close to master footwork and it just keeps on getting better. U just have to know how to use ur skills in the right order and know ur oppenent. Just wanted to give my 2 cents. Hats off to all other swordsmen

Have to agree, MCH and Blademaster myself with Pharma4 to use experimented stimD's (2200 max heal so far, usually around 1100). I use the pet to tank, attack at max range and rarely get agroed this way.

I do find it irritating that that the developers have chosen to force players into two channels. One is having pets and the other is using "illegal drugs." I think a lot of this represents a fairly fundamental design flaw relating to lack of growth in the basic characteristics of the character. With a HAM bar that can only be boosted temporarily, there is a built in problem that higher level creatures take time to kill solo or in a group and they are capable of killing ANY character in one shot. Because defensive modifiers are either broken or not significant enough to change this basic problem, you either have to have a high HAM pet to take the beating (anyone remember what a shambles things were after the patch that temporarily broke pet aggro?) or you have to artificially increase physical traits, mostly through drugs. I think I would probably have acquired a huge aversion to Star Wars (or more likely my parents would) if Han Solo were depicted mainlining illegal drugs before each encounter and throwing up after each fight because of withdrawal. As much as I love having a CH in a group so that I do not get killed quite so often, doesn't it bother anyone that no player can do what the pet does? It is particularly galling for fencers who, according to the ill conceived and inaccurate game documentation, were supposed tofill the role of hanging in with somthing to kill it over time.

I really wish I didn't have to use my pets to kill anything that fires a gun, or is more than a light blue con, but I must.

Perhaps the devs will fix fencers. When they do I can finally drop all my CH skills =) But untill then, yes I will have to be one of those CH guys.

I agree with Jeditool, I took CH after quickly realising that pets tank in this game not players. Even if the Devs make us effective tanks, will we be as effective as a pet. In that can we consume some food to magic away our Health and Action wounds and do a little trick to do the same for Mind? Oh and never suffer from Battle Fatigue and never take damage on our armour? Not gonna happen is it unless they nerf pets to oblivion, so looks like I'll be MCH for quite a while. Yes I know Master Docs could make us almost pet likebut all I've known that get to Master Doc have either quit the game or re-roll to something else.

Also I can pull with pets far far more reliably and safely than myself, and I know a bit about pulling being anex-EQ monk.

I am almost a Master and I find that in a group that its best to attack at exactly 4m stop back away then come back.

Also get a pet of any level to stop kiting NPCs..my Wrix or Cupa (non-CH pets) do a preety good job of that as I absolutely refuse to have to resort to using...a high level..screen filling... Ubber beast to fight my battles..

Another tactic that work is... aim the toughest creature of the lair. Stay at a good distance. Then use a special attack... anything will work... it will say out of range but all creature from the lair or NPC exept the one you are aiming will charge you... example for gurreck lair i aim the gurreck... i do that and the cowardly gurreck and charger gurreck attack me but not the gurreck so i can just take my time to kill the easiest enemy and then heal and take the hardest one on one. This work great when this is non agressive creature or NPC with guns. Always aim the hardest tho.

Yes, as odd as this is, i have seen this happen. The one you actually attack does nothing, but his posse will attack you. But, if you then attack one of the otherones you drew, and are still close to the one you originally attacked, it WILL aggro on you then.

"So I swoop upon the foe, and I will slay,
I will hew them into pieces, I will dash them into dust;
Like Baal in his strength, on their rearward, lo! I fell,
And I killed them, none escaped me, and I slew, and slew, and slew."

I have yet to try this as a fencer (dont have pet yet)but this tactic works very good with my carbineer/combat medicand non-CH beetle pet.

- Make pet attack creature.

- Target pet

- Assist to start attacking

- ESC to get mob targetted. /follow here for melee

- Use specials or just autoattack with bezerk I guess.

This works great as a cabineer. 5 mobs can be on my beetle but as long as I start attacking by assisting the pet, I can AOE and not get any aggro. Of course if there is a mob that wasnt attacking to begin with then I will aggro him with the AOE.

I plan to get CH for my fencer and try this. Not anytime soon tho he just got novice fencer and still need to do scout requirements for CH.

I throw my gsp and grand wrix on target wait a few secs intemidate it then health hit it. From there on it's is a struggle if it eats my mind up or not. I love ch adds some more fun and fencer is fun too, i dabble in pistol cause when a mob runs i switch to gun or waiting to jump into the fight i shoot it. I also dable in medic as it helps with teh pet and myself why fighting. Wife plays a combat medic/doctor so it works out great. Real trouble is getting all your fencer skills and hunting down a fencer to teach you. Wander home is really short on fencers. 3 master fencers and few others that is about it.
