I ask only that we remain the most defense oriented of the melee professions. The Devs can play with any other concepts that they choose so long as we remain defensive at our core. Anything else would be far too drastic of a change.

I agree with Thror, I'll be fine as long as we're defense oriented. I think that there's a bit more strategy involved when you're not all out offensive /cough rifleman /cough. You don't kill people in 3-4 hits so you're forced to developa strategy to kill your opponent. I really hope we don't end up like that one guy said, dots suck and I would really hate it if they nerfed our dodge and gave us a poopy dot.

There will be changes. Potentially large changes. Probably the best thing to do right now is to not get stuck thinking about "how it is", it is possible that everything you know about the combat system gets changed. Also a good ideamight beto start thinking about professions as specific roles, rather than who can kick who's arse in PVP.

So maybe the Jedi conversion system will not be a one use effort, hu ?

So lets assume many things change but we still keep a close combat subcategory of fighters
lets assume there is need for the basic types of melee fighters: tank, damage dealer, and mixed types.
what we have now in my opinion:
- Tank : Fencer
- Damage Dealer : Swordman, Pikeman
- Mixed : Teras Kasi
what i would propose :
- Tank : Teras Kasi. Defense max up defense, raise damage resistance, lower damage. keyword : Eihachi Mishima
- Damage Dealer : A mixup of Swordman and Pikeman, Wielding friggin big weapons and of course low on defense. keyword : Nightmare
- Mixed : a swashbuckling fighter using an array on medium size weapons, with lots of state and bleeds. keyword : Taki

It is the hope of all the Correspondents and the Developers I have spoken with that all professions will to a large extent be effective, with their specific nitches being better defined.
To that end we are attempting to define a Shared Vision (I so hate catch phrases) that encompases all of that. And we are takeing great pains to do so.
Rest assured that we are leaveing no stone unturned when it comes to attempting to identify what can work, what does work, what we want to work better.
There will be changes. Potentially large changes. Probably the best thing to do right now is to not get stuck thinking about "how it is", it is possible that everything you know about the combat system gets changed. Also a good ideamight beto start thinking about professions as specific roles, rather than who can kick who's arse in PVP.
All the Correspondents are working overtime to try to find a common ground from which we can then find the nitch for our given professions.
This isn't an easy or simple task, but alot of dedicated people are willing to do what it takes to be inclusive of these communities wishes and visions. And do all of that in a manner that allows every profession to be "effective" in it's given role.
This might even mean that some of you will find that Fencer won't be the play style or Nitch you want out of the game.
But it will mean that what you do want to play will be there and it will be better defined to do that "job".

Correct I can gaurentee that there is that kind of effort (and more) going into the combat revamp.

I still would like to see us the most defensive of the melee. Two handed for sure. I know every profession wants to be "good" in PVP, but in reality, up close, a fencer always should be, most if not all the melee professions should be, because our achilles heal is always the distance.

sorry for the double post, i'm just waking up (worng side of the ocean, here).
Beyond what i exposed about a Tank, a Damage Dealer and a Versatile, there should be Melee hybrid professions, as we have commando and bounty hunters, we could have infiltrators(tk/scout/smugler) and bladesingers(swordman/fencer/dancer) (sorry for the archetype, but it's just so that you catch the idea)

Incidentally on the Dancer Fencer Hybrid I posteda suggestion just like that back around december to mixed reviews...
Problem with it is that the hybrid portion (I titled the postBlade Dancer Proposal,do a search for that it should come up) wouldn't fit within 255 SP if it progressed the same way as an elite SP wise.
That being said there would be no chance of adding Swordman... to that... =)
I agree there should be more ability to spend the 255 SP on Specializing rather than simply yet another massivly mixed template.

As long as they don't over do it and put the profession into a pigeon-hole. No one likes being a one-trick pony and it gets boring very quickly. That is the appeal of a skill-based system versus a class-based system ... I hope they don't want to change that.
