I swear I saw somewhere that fencers could dual wield.

Is this true, if so, which weapons, and what skill do you need to train to get it?

They cannot.

There is call for the developers to put in off hand shields since there are several instances of hand held shields in the EU, There has not to my knowledge been any Developer comment on the possibilty of this.

And remember that there are Very few examples of real life dual weapon melee styles, Flourentine, and an african stick fighting style that I don't know the name of being the only two I know of... Flourentine specifically uses the off hand as 90% parrying, and only when able to exploit your opponant do you strike with the offhand blade. The Stick fighting style is only practiced by seemingly ambidexerous warriors who learn from toddlerhood that one hand is no different than the other.

There is also only one scene in all of the movies (pretty sure anyway) where anyone wields any two weapons, Darth Maul after his dual sided saber is cut in two.

I also don't recall any EU evidence of dual wielding from any books, indeed the Origional Starwars RPG mention useing an off hand for combat and talk about spliting dice pools to get more attacks, but you wouldn't want to due to the MASSIVE penalties.

So in short, due to lack of real life support of widespread dual wielding, due to the massive lack of indicators of SW dual wielding, if they do add it it will not be in your best intrest to do so, but I'd like to see it addedonly if it gives massive negatives. It's just not supported. And if they went to EQ style Dual wield you would see no one being anything other than Pistoleers (dual wielding scout or FWG5's) and Fencers with two swords.

I agree with the above statement almost in whole. but not quite....

In the Expanded Universe there are mention of Dual weilding... such as Exar Kun(not sure on the spelling on the last name...but it mentions in the the jedi acadmey series.) And then Of course we have Episode 2 where Anakin used 2 lightsabers( i know thats not EU) And i belive there was one or 2 more instances, but over all there was little to base the dual wield one, saddly.

ok thats my 2bits.

Exar Kun used a double sided saber like darth maul.

In the newKnights of the Old Republicstar wars game there are dual wielders (looks totally badass).

Actually, that's not really true. One of the greatest Fencers in history was the Japanese legend Musashi. Musashi discovered that, when weilding one blade, the other hand was free, but was not being used. He began wielding a shorter blade (Wakazashi) in his off hand, with the katana in his primary. He began a school ofthisprinciplein his later years, and eventually became known as the greatest swordsmanof all Japan.

He definately proves that two-weapon fighting is not only feasable, but very successful!

most are made for defense but have a offensive side to them as well.

Do not forget Arnise. The Korean form of dual handed weaponry. It is a versitile system that works well with any weapon, or object one can grab at the time of combat. When properly armed masters of this art usualy weild battons, reed staffs, or even blades. To see one of these guys perform withtwo full sized reed staffs is amazing.

There is an entire lightsaber stance for dual-sabers. It's called Veedera I think. Only Mace Windu and his pupils know it.

I'd pay good money for a bone armor shield to really help block some blaster fire, but that would mean everybody drops polearm and 2h sword. Right now it seems fairly balanced though I'm only an expert 1h sword.

Here are my thoughts about shields :

To bring balance I would increase damage of 2handed weapons.

Such shields maybe would increase block skill, and better ones deflect blaster shots ( which would additionaly make duels with marksmans more balanced - Like SirSwank said

Adding a shield tree ( with certificates ) with maybe brand new skills ( or replacing some least useful skills )

like shield smiting, defense posture would also make our profession much more fun to play.

On possible disadvantagment using them : maybe slow down character move by 10 %?

What do you think on it ?

One thing to remember about Musashi: The long blade (held over the head) was only used for the death blow... His entire style was based on wating (no matter how long it took) for the opponent to make the first move, block with the short blade in front, and *pop* right on top of the skull with the long blade...

While I would love to see something like this in the game, the style is VERY specialized (as are most dual wielding styles).

Please excuse spelling, usage, general cohesiveness... Its six in the morning and Im a fat, lazy....fat fat man.
