Not very flattering is it.

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

Well can ya blame him? Sounds like all he's found are the lazy entertainers who are to slothy to get off their *** and earn their exp without using an AFK macro. From what he said he has every right to hate entertainers, the AFKers and the entertainers who just sit and dance without holding a conversation or anything give the rest of us a bad name it's not his fault if all he's ever experienced is the low life scum bag entertainers.

I wish he could see some of the entertainers in private joints. We're alot more social and interactive.

I don't blame him at all. I agree, the profession as a whole hasa major image problem to deal with. And the ones that are a cause of the image problem can't see that it exists, so mechanics need to be put in place to deal with it. I started a thread with an idea on the dancer forum, as the elite profession forums tend to be more receptive to anti-AFK ideas than the entertainer forum.

the biggest concern i have, is as a profession, an image problem is just about the WORST problem we could ever have. entertainers are almost as much about image as they are about interaction, and that is why the AFK problem is really such a crisis for us, as opposed to AFK sampling or camping, which is a lot less detrimental to those professions, and their customers.

however, i do have faith that the interactive and fun loving players out there WILL seek out and find the places where the best of us are. its not a very good consolation prize, but its something we just have to live with until some point later.

Heh, but you may seen as a total loser by people who sit in front of a computer screen pretending to be a wookie blowing away Jawas. I just cannot take those people seriously. Why would I care if a gamer calls me a loser? By many standards, all gamers are losers.

Pot. Kettle.

Perhaps it bothers some that the entertainer is something that is reviled by the "losers" so much that we are at the bottom (if you want to think that way). So what makes the Master Bounty Hunter so great? Hmm, he's able to point and click effectively. He can choose macros to do massive damage. He can harvest tons of creatures. For some reason, the player of a Master Bounty Hunter doesn't strike me as an impressive person...certainly not any more impressive than an entertainer. Master Weaponsmith? He's able to drag icons; ooh, a Windows user can drag icons. He typically knows the qualities of many materials in order to piece together an uber item. Should I have to specify that these are fictional materials. He is able to know the difference between Naboo wooly hide and Tatooine wooly hide, a nugget of information that does no good in the real world or any game outside of SWG. That's not too impressive either.

Yeah, I'm being called a loser by other losers. I try not to let that little fact bother me.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

All right, I realize this is going to come off sounding "elitist" to some people. Frankly, I don't care. Those people spend plenty of time being elitist themselves, telling us things like "your profession is useless because you have no direct role in combat." And since this is an entertainer forum I probably won't insult too many people with this statement... so here goes.

I am a roleplayer. SEA on the bartle scale (take the test -- link in my signature). To me, the height of gaming challenge is good roleplaying. Pointing, clicking, blowing things up takes no amount of any skill I have a desire to really cultivate. It's fun in short bursts to go out and smack a few chubas or spineflaps, but I have no interest in spending large chunks of time doing that. The main thing I seek out of this game, and generally get I might add, is good, solid, enjoyable, challenging roleplaying.

Because this is so, there is only one type of person whose opinion matters to me, and that is another serious roleplayer. I couldn't care less what the combat-wombats and PVP freaks think of me. I am a roleplayer. Their opinion of my combat skills is less than irrelevent. For example, maybe I want my character to have bad combat skills because it is part of her background, hmmm? A roleplayer understands this. A combat-wombat's mind would shatter trying to comprehend the idea of deliberately being not the best in combat that I can possibly be.

So, a combat-wombat or a PVP hound or some other type of player, a KEA or an AKE, doesn't think much fo SEAs, is that it? I'm supposed to get all upset over this?

Bah! Let him think what he wants. Let his type have no respect for me... I don't care what they think. Their opinion is meaningless to me because they don't understand the type of gaming I am trying to engage in it. Do they have to engage in it? No. But they can just butt out of what I am doing here, thank you very much, and if they don't butt out of their own free will, I am happy to add them to my /ignore. The list grows larger each day. In fact I've become quite agressive with it. It wouldn't bother me if every non-RPer on the entire server was on it... because again, the only people I care about or wish to interact with are other RPers, and everyone else is little more than an NPC as far as I am concerned... Window dressing. That's it.

Chessack honey, if I was on Naritus I would travel to Keren and lay my little, squiddish body at your feet. You said it exactly the way I think it, and you said it well! I bought this game because it has multiple ways to play, and combat is only one of them. I too do not care what the combat-wombats think at all. I dance cause I I love it, and I will keep dancing until the curtain falls.

Chessack you are my new god. You typed what probably 75% of Entertainers think and feel. Last night, before arriving in Theed some guy started hasseling me in the Restuss hotel, I was healing the moron and he had to nerve to whine and complain because "I don't add any real aid to the Imperial Faction being an entertainer." Some other customers told him to bakc off and he didn't.

Being a roleplayer I responded in character by asking him to leave before he started disturbing the peace. He continued to whine and complain. My next response was to put him on deny service, leacing him with half his mind bar still immonolized by wounds. This got him even more whiney so finally I did my last usual step before putting someone on my ignore list, I switched my profession tag to Pistoler, pulled out my gun and my commandos and dark trooper and challenged him to a duel, offering he could either settle the argument that way or he could go find someone else to heal him. I ignored the duel and continued to complain, about 5 seconds later everyone in the hotel (8 people total and I the onyl entertainer) had him on ignore. Just goes to show not everyone hates us, but most still do...

Anyhoo thank you Chessack!! I believe you spoke for most of the Entertainersin SWG with your post.

I can understand that guy's frustration. God knows I'm frustrated by all the afk and have been plenty vocal about it here.I doubt he's running into very many entertainers that are begging for tips. I usually only see that coming from someone in the crowd I've never seen before and will most likely never see again. And anyone begging for tips is getting told privately to knock it off so it usually doesn't keep up for long.

On not getting thanked for tips tho? I know most players don't realize how much spam those tip system messages get buried in. We really need a better system for tracking tips.

I've gone into options and plugged the word "tip" in, so that it shows up as red text for me. I've also created a chat tab for system messages only so that I can go into that window and scroll up to find the name of someone who tipped me. But the whole mess is really clumsy. We need something better.

And the roleplayers wonder why no one likes them. Oh wait, they "don't care"... yea obviously, that is why you had to write a five paragraph reply to say that. Roleplaying seems to be really convenient too... "My character is supposed to be bad at combat, so you see, I need a way to make money without doing anything in order to be a good roleplayer. I wouldn't expect the rest of you to understand though, you'll just say I'm lazy. Blah blah blah." New game same BS.

I see plenty of entertainers doing their jobs well, but then again I spend less time in public cantinas and more time at private cantinas andgigs these days. At private cantinas, it's pretty unusual to see an /afk musician or dancer for extend periods of time. Sure, everyone takes short breaks, but you don't see the bots that you see occasionally in public cantinas. It's admittedly more of a mixed bag in large public cantinas, but even here I still see a majority of entertainers as being pretty good at what they do -- chatting with the audience, role-playing sometimes, and so forth.

My guess is that the image of our profession will actually improve as moreentertainers master their profession; once you've reached mastery, the focus is no longer on XP but on performing for its own sake and for making money, two things that go hand in hand. I also think new entertainer content couldadd newlustre to our profession; more dances, songs, and hairstyles would make everyone happier.
