Thread: THIS is how other professions see us
Why does wanting to make money with dancing fall into the category of 'wanting to make money by doing nothing'?
How about we cut the pay for the high end missions for combat classes to be equal to an entertainer mission and make them dance for the 16k+ payouts? That way, they too, can't make any money by doing their chosen profession either.
Not to slam your what you do, but as someone who needs entertainment healing almost every day, I dont really care what dances your doing or what song your playing or what clothes you are wearing/not wearing or how "entertaining" you are to me (I do watch/listen to the higher skilled entertainers over the less tho). All I care about is getting my mind and bf healed. Thats all, really. Maybe some people out there care about these things but I'm a fighter and I get woundedevery day so I have to stop by the cantinas. You could be there at your computer or (AFK), I dont care. Just need the healing. After its done, you get the tip.
I dont see this as a lame profession or a stupid one but I do see it as very boring. To others, it may be the oppisite. But it does heal mybf so its a very usefull profession. Even more then Medics cause you can sit in a medcenter and still get healed regardless if theres a medic around or not. You cant (that I know of) sit in the cantina and still getbf healed if there isnt a entertainer around.
RageGods actually hasa very good point that, otherwise put, I would have disagreed with. The game mechanics are forcing Killers or Achievers and the like to mingle with the Socializers. As Chessack demonstrated, they don't mix well. ![]()
In and out and an interruption to the normal flow is how combatists see the entertainer part of their game play.
That's probably why the AFKMers are thriving--because they will sit in a very boring environment and provide a service to combatants that otherwise wouldn't have one.
The solution would be to provide a way for entertainers to get more involved with the normal flow of other class's game play rather than being an interruption of them. But socializers like the large social settings of cantinas filled with active entertainers.
What a conundrum.
The Entertainer profession has no more idiots in it than any other profession - the only reason it _seems_ like the Entertainers have more is because people are more likely to bump into in idiot Entertainer than any other class because there are fewer places where they could actually be.
If you were to tally up every 'idiot customer'there isand compared them to every 'idiot Entertainer' there is I doubt the numbers would be that different because theres no shortage of idiots.
The problem is simply concentrated in the case of Entertainers - people who dont know what RP really is, people who are just taking the mickey out of those that RP, people who think that chat room behaviour is the norm for online communication (and who probably dont see enough real people during the day to encounter 'normal' interaction) and immature children and probably a fair few desparate males hoping the person behind the keyboard of that Twi'lek toon is a hot chick (my GF plays one so its true in _at least_ one case) oh and lets not forget the griefers
Another factor (or maybe _the_ factor in the case of the griefers) is that some people genuinely dont see the point/value in the Entertainer profession - these are typically the powergamer/PvP types to whom non-combat professions are just seen as pointless and put in to pacify the carebears - they _resent_ having to endure more 'downtime' by having to get healed by you guys (although I am amazed they dont ever seem to complain much about Doctors and why they just cvant be invicible) and worse still that they might be expected to pay for it - to most of these people MMORPGs are simply a tool to show their ub3r l33t ski11z and who can max out their character fastest. The problem is that SWG doesnt force this play style (as previous games did) and when these people 'hit the wall' they are likely to take their frustration out on the non-combat types who they will blame for the game being 'dumbed down for the carebears'
Its really not your fault guys
AFK Macroer is probably more of an achiever than a socializer anyway...
I do try to entertain people in the cantina, but as this guy put it, flourishes and whatever make no differences to him, and he doesn't care if I line up a brilliant rendition of Jazz or just spam flourish 2 on SW1, as long at it heals his BF.
But if you make up lyrics (not macros of stuff you wrote previously, or *gasp* copywritten poetry) and /sing or /rap some stuff using people's names who are listening to you (and make them funny) then they will be entertained, and probably surprised that they are being entertained. If you don't want to do something like that then try to think of other ways to entertain. Flourishes don't cut it, they are the same as the other thousands of entertainers, and no matter what order you put them in they will not entertain those who just don't dig it.

Well, since I am a socializer and a roleplayer I'm one of the ones who sees it as the exact opposite. Of all the things there are to do in this MMORPG, the #1 activity for me, the one out of which I get so much enjoyment it just buries the others like an avalanche, is roleplay. If I get good roleplay, wherever I am, whatever else I am doing, I am entertained and happy.
So far the best place to get RP that I have seen is the cantina. Usually it is the other entertainers who provide it, and not the patrons. Which is why so many entertainers in small cantinas have problems, if they feel the way I do (and many that I know, do feel that way) -- if there are no entertainers to RP with and nobody else RPs, well... if you are looking for RP then that venue is just not going to cut it. Which makes you want to move on.
I can't see how "grinding through" the various boxes to get to Master Architect would be fun either... I would consider it boring. And while I do like to pick up a rifle and shoot things occasionally, grinding through the marksman boxes without letup for a solid couple of weeks would leave me stupefied with boredom. Now, if you were to include roleplay with these activities suddenly they would be much more fascinating, but as it is roleplay is usually NOT something you are going to get much of while crafting or blowing stuff up... but you will usually get it (if you want it) while entertaining.
Which is why I find entertaining to be the most fun profession in the game (I have tried 3 others -- scout, marksman, artisan -- so I am not just speaking hypothetically). So yeah, some of us find it to not only be non-boring, but to be about the most fun thing you can do. Before you say, "but all there is to do is flourish", realize that I don't care about XP so I don't even have to flourish (I do, because I like watching my toon do it, but I don't need to and I don't care how long it takes to fill out skill boxes). I am there for the RP, and I can get that whether I hit the function keys or not.
Now, as to whether YOU are being entertained, or anyone else in the "audience" -- well, I have little control over that. I can RP, banter with the patrons, etc, but if you don't consider that "chat stuff" to be entertaining then I can't help you. That's for you to work out on your own.
