During the final days of Beta when I got my invite I made an entertainer character, and also carried this idea through the launch. It was great fun!
Now my character is a Tailor and has not been involved in combat for a while. I got into a fight and needed to heal my mind in a cantina so I nipped into Bestine and what I saw was so depressing - the cantina full of afk people and I couldn't find one 'proper' entertainer.
Well, I'm sure this has been mentioned on the boards hundreds of times, but I just wanted to express my disappointment on how far the entertainer has gone from the original idea of it. Very depressing, IMHO.
The holocron thing has killed this game in many ways.
On the plus side, it's great fun making clothes!

Saw-Lau, I have spoken to many, many non-entertainers who feel exactly the same way. Kinda takes the wind out of the pro-AFK argument that it's just a "few" of us "snotty entertainers" who are complaining about AFK play.
The situation will improve when hologrinding is taken out of the game. It won't completely eliminate the problem, but it WILL improve.

I can tell you that the true entertainers feel the same, going tot he cantina use to be a funa nd social experience, but now it isnt fun being the only non AFK person there.

Have hope folks, the day of the holotainer is coming to an end and I don't believe people will keep Macrotaining just for the badge. The cantinas will return to the former state. Our day will come and on that day we will rejoice.

Not for the badge..
But buff bots, cantina mules, those are still going to be strong driving forces, just to nake a few.
But it will be much better.

What I think is really depressing is all the madness and lunacy everyone seems to be going through to acquire their force slot. Yes, I understand, it would be cool to play a jedi (very cool)... but the quest for that slot has diminished a great deal of what SWG was intended to be. Players are grinding through professions at incredible speeds without truly experiencing them, earning an insane amount of experience, repetative badges, and for what? To fill an entire server with Jedi? Like the devs are honestly going to permit 50,000 jedi on each server... I don't mean to sound bitter... everyone pays their monthly fee, and can play according to their tastes. I just feel a great deal of the game's integrity has been put aside in favor of its "holy grail"... the force slot.

the afk people can heal you just as well...
another good thing about the afk people is that they spam....so you dont actually have to even go into the cantina...you can stand near the bazaar terminals and do some business and just type /watch or /listen for the people spamming...i havent been inside a cantina in 3 months

You are missing out. There are real entertainers out there. (mine is Path on Starsider) Some will make you laugh, some sad, some just confused but it is...entertaining.

Thanks for your comments, everybody. It's encouraging to know that others feel the same way.

Of course that's true, Naufragus, and is a fair point if all you want is your mind wounds healed. It's just that I, like many others, used to/still do enjoy playing an entertainer character for the social side of things. I feel it's now pretty impossible to mark one's mark in a cantina simply because of the afk people and spamming. Each to their own, though.

i prefer the AFK people...and i am really glad most of the "entertainers" are gone....i dont find anything about it even mildly entertaining...the word i would use is annoying....
what i dont understand is why all of you entertainers feel compelled to interact with people .....when i go to a concert or see a band in a club or even go to a strip club, the acts dont "interact"..they stay on stage and do their show.
did it ever occur to any of you that people really dont want your chit-chat and dont really watch or listen to you...all we want is to be healed ASAP and be on our way...

I'm afraid that the jedi revamp will make the buffbot situation worse, if indeed everyone gets a second character. You won't even need a second account for your buff bot. /sigh. Buffing needs to be changed to an active, non-macroable system.
