Thread: Why is there not a Singer class?

Listening to the amazing Ricky and Odoro play at a party last night, I found myself wanting to stop dancing and sing to the music. I'm sure someone's suggested it already, but why was it rejected in the profession design?

If you remember Star Wars, Sly Snootles didn't really sing words. They were alien sounds in tune with the music. I'd think it would be a relatively simple matter - especially compared to motion capturing dance animations - to record vocalizations that sound like words but aren't necessarily comprehensible. Ditch one of the forty Heal ladders and add Singer to the list of skills under Entertainment. Give us a microphone and some animations to round out the bands.

Why not?

This game has no longer became fun for me. I do not see it ever getting better. Goodbye Tempest and Eclipse. Salute SiN Guild.

I'd love to see a Singer profession. I imagine it might be tough to integrate singing with the current crop of songs -- which is fine with me! Brand-new songs with a voice part would be great.

By the way, good job at Stormy Haven last night, Sinda. Dancer /bandflo's are a great sight.

Can you imagine the Diva from Fifth Element? She almost even looked Twi'lek!

No lyrics needed, just vocalizations with flourishes that complement the instruments. I think a Vocalist class would be a great expansion idea. I might even reconsider my opinion of my own future in entertainment

Thanks for the complement, Ricky. Just too bad Chilastra had to develop chat problems. As usual.

I think that's a brilliant idea! I've been tinkering with writing my own lyrics that go with the songs but in a way it feels like I'm just spamming the room. Love the idea of vocal flourishes that coordinate with the songs - adding the same kind of variety that different instruments' flourishes do!

I've always hated this idea because I know that vocals will make me tire of the songs incredibly quickly, but if it was just vocal melodies with no words that would be cool.

Exactly! Sorry I wasn't more clear. I meant tonal flourishes not lyrical. Repeated lyrics could get *really* annoying.

Kora, Odoro and I play at Tempest's Stormy Haven Cantina near Theed every Saturday night around 9 pm EST. The cantinafeaturesdice-based gambling, drinks, dancing, music, and socializing. In the past Tempest has also hosted wrestling contents, but not of late.

Odoro and Ialsoperform at Ami's club, next door, on many Friday nights.

We are trying to add a couple of Master Musicians to round out our band, so that at least we can live up to our name -- The Kreetles. You know, The Fab, er, Two. If you're interested, send me a tell, and we can have you join us this coming Saturday.

I would absulutley loVE having a singing profession with more songs added to the game, You are so right about the Diva in the 5th element. when I have been performing I often think of that and think if only that was possible in SWG ...WooW

Actually, come to think of it, does it really need to be in its own experience 'track'?

Why not have voices as another instrument...the instrument that is used if no other instrument is in the hands of the musician, or if they equip a microphone? They'd have to provide different male and female tracks, and record a lot of digital samples, but they'd have to do that for any new instrument anyway. This way it doesn't require changing the experience tree.

Regardless of how they implement it, I think it's a great idea.

I would like to see a singer class - as it stands perhaps it will become one of the elite professions or something? In the meantime there are ways to entertain oneself

I assume the Singer (or Vocalist) would be a class above Entertainer, just as Musician or Dancer are? I think it would be really great. I suppose it would develop under the Music Skills, and once you got Music IV you could take Singer (or Musician). That way, we Entertainers get a few songs along the way (hopefully Master Ent gets one too.

Assuming the obvious problems of LOTS of recording were overcome, it would be GREAT. Especially if you can sing WHILE playing instruments (meaning Mandovial, Nalargon, and OmniBox, of course). There will be nothing better than a Mando playing Wookiee who SINGS...

- I support whatever Glzmo says You can too

Flurry: Orryliakaloc - Wookiee Huntsman
Kettemoor: URoRRuR'R'R - Tusken King
Lowca: Ootaro - Rodian Gunfighter
Gorath: Jagar Tharn - Bounty Hunter
