Thread: AFK Macro-ing

I'm not totally innocent myself here. Not Master anything though. However, I see numerous discussions and bugfixes ( Surveying pop ups ) for a very simple problem: XP while AFK.

Why are there even XP while AFK ? I don't see a reason to award XP on actions that happen while AFK. The AFK-Flag is automatically set by the game, so why award players after AFK has been noticed by an authority ?

I'm not sure how hard this would be to implement and I won't speculate without any facts. But that would be a very simple and logical fix. If it's simple and it works...

I have to agree. The problem isn't AFK, per se, because everyone has to go the bathroom or change the babies diapers sometimes. The issue is that there are so many people AFKing overnight for XP, and resulting in full but remarkable empty and silent cantinas. Take away XP while AFK, and suddenly you'll find the only people who are AFK are the people who HAVE to be AFK, while the vast majority of people will be at keyboard.

Note that you can set the time it takes for the AFK tag to automatically appear.

Why do you care???? Is my question... Can you find something to NOT bitch about? Prob not.

Why can't you just mind your own biz and not worry about what others are doing around you? It doesn't affect your gameplay so why can't you just shut up about it? Because you thrive on drama and whining?

The game currently does not flag you as afk while running a macro. This isa misconception on the part of the non AFKers. Even if it did, this would be easy enough to defeat with a third party macro program.

Again a post against afk...

Do you realize that in 2 months all people will be master in entertaining profession with or without afk?

Spoken like someone who got their Master the cheap way I would assume that the ones who complain about this are the one who are actually FUN to be around in cantina because they enjoy playing a dancer and they enjoy the interaction with their "customers". I think the dancing is a fun aspect of SWG and I personally think that the AFK Dancing is lame and gives the profession as a whole a bad reputation.

Does school start soon? I sure hope so.

Maybe if you didn't AFK play all the time you would be able to understand how it does affect other players.

I don't care if people AFK macro in their home or way off in corners somewhere. But yes it is bothersome to have AFKers smack dab in the middle of the cantina. In fact, must of the ones I see seem to be the ones right in front of the door. They aren't looking for just XP by doing that, they are looking to make money from tips for basically doing nothing.

They are blocking the view of people who actually are working, they are stealing money from people who actually are working.

They are giving entertainers a bad name. Look through the other forums and see how much entertainers are ripped on because of how easy it is to become master.

I walked into a cantina the other day, there were 5 performers, all of whom were AFK. It seemed to be the trend in this cantina. No one would tip me for a whileeven though I was actually talking to them because they were used to getting a free service from robots.

Maybe when you get older, you will understand the ramifications of these actions.

I think the point that some are TRYING to make, but not eloquent as others is that each person chooses to play this game the way they want, and not everyone is going to agree with one another.

Personally, I think most are tried of this subject. if one chooses to afk their way to powerlevel, that is their business and no one else's. They pay to play this game just like everyone else.Granted, they should be courtsey enough to think about how there afk playing effect others play. Are they over in the corner, ungroup doing their thing, are they being petty in the middle of the dance floor, spamming away for tips and heals?

Idon't care if anyone goes afk..I personally have done it myself, especially if I am close to making that next level, Ihavelefted my toon running while i do other things. but I have been courtsey enough to go to the back of the cantina or back to my house to do so. I don't think I deserve tips or heals, or even the added bonuse of exp while I am afk. Heck even if i go afk to check on dinner I move out of the main dance area.

As this subject goes, either side needs to quit telling the other how to play, cause it is does not but make the game unenjoyable for others. This subject has been beat with a stick many times, and we all bring up the same points and still we all still have the same opinions as we did before.

As for myself, I am going back to playing my Game, the way I want.

AFK macroing is fine and is your right. But you should have the courtesy to go out of the main playing area for the entertainers or go to a hotel and be the afk act while people are gambling.

That's right, but there is a set maximum of 30 minutes. After that you are AFK.
Leaves 30 minutes for ingame macroing. Enough for a quick break, not enough for a night of XP gain.

>Why do you care ?

Because I see AFKers and I think the current system is not logical. There are fixes being implemented while the simple solution would be the best.

>Why can't you just mind your own biz and not worry about what others are doing around

As Entertainer this is my very own business. People around me are affecting my gameplay, because this is a *gasp* MMORPG. Note the second M. It's the way it is supposed to be. I don't care if someone dances in a back room. I do so myself at times. I dislike people who are AFK right in front of the cantina.

I'm not shutting up. I see a simple problem and a simple solution. So I ask why not implement it that way. Maybe I overlooked something.

As long as you don't provide something substantial for discussion, I'd say you are the whiner.

>The game currently does not flag you as afk while running a macro.

It does. If it doesn't for you, you are doing something special.

>Even if it did, this would be easy enough to defeat with a third party macro program.

Indeed. But that's more difficult for most and probably not worth the effort.

( Note that I said for most. There will still be some who use 3rd party software. Even if not, I have seen pictures of mechanical machines pressing keys on the keyboard. As a programmer, I found that hilarious, but moral of the story is: if it's stupid enough a machine can do it, in the end a machine will do it. )

>Do you realize that in 2 months all people will be master in entertaining
>profession with or without afk?

No. And I think it's plain wrong. I have been playing a dancer in beta and I wasn't Novice dancer well into week 4. Maybe less customers, but dance XP was about the same ( though with an AFK friendlier version of distribution ). AFK macros weren't used.

>school was out 17 years ago and i've listened to at least that much WHINING since then

Nobody was whining in the upper classes of my school. Maybe you should have stayed till the end ?

You must be very religious. Try to give some arguments pro or contra AFK, this is not the church, where an almighty GOD is reason enough to justify whatever you say.
