I never macro for anything anymore, I used to do it for sampling, but I find it funner when I'm acutally sitting at the computer talking to my friends. (Plus I get more tips if I always talk the the person watching me dance. *hint*

It's not fair that you guys can still afk macro all night and yet us crafters can't. I mean, I'm a DE, don't I get anything going for me?

As a DE, if you have resources you can easily get a 4th level (like master blueprints) in half an hour from training 3th level. BTW, as DE you have harvester too and harvester -you know- make your job in accumulating resources. I know it because i'm a DE too (really i felle myself a musician... when you find me in my lab you know i'm low on cash).

So, i don't care about afk-macroing. I think this game is designed to be played (and enjoyed) after master skills (while other MMORPGS are designed to let you 'suffer' your character building). More, i think that is best innovation on playing that Swg give us...

For all of you defending AFK macros... Answer me this..

If you think the way you are "playing" is as intended.. Why did they take away the experience when you are doing band flourishes? It's exactly the same, in beta one person could band flourish for the whole group to get xp. They didn't see this as appropriate and made it so band flourishes don't count towards xp though.

I would assume that the ones who complain about this are the one who are actually FUN to be around in cantina because they enjoy playing a dancer and they enjoy the interaction with their "customers".

Nope, i don't complain about AFK macro people, I do see the problem with those who AFK in front of the entrance as this is the playing ground for most entertainers at the cantinas. If people just moved away to a corner like alot have already said it wouldn't be a problem, cause if people want to AFK macro there will always be a way to do it. I do enjoy the interaction with people and that was the reason to why i joined the Musicians from the start, and spend the 2 first weeks of my playtime without leaving the city i was in.

The problem i see with AFK macroing, is the easy solution they(SOE) can make, and that is taking away aliasing and UI command. These two are great commands that i would miss very much if they where to make a fast fix for it. That is the reason to why i oppose a hotfix for AFK macroing that alot of people scream for.

But what they rather should do is to fix the player city', that will bring the cantinas to the new city, and people would probably be able to kick AFK' from those cantinas. And let the starting city' be the uncontroled. Cause i don't think we will be able to talk the AFK' to stay away from the entrance.

Macros should be kept, but

I would suggest:

1. Limit the length of macros,

2. Reduce the Experience gained during AFK to 1/10

3. No /tip for AFK people possible

Yup, I know. I appologize to you for that comment. That one poster just got the best of me. I have enjoyed many of the younger people playing the game and will miss not seeing them around as much.

Hi, my name is Patina and I'm an AFK-Macroer. Mind you, I only did it in my home after I went to bed, fixed dinner, watched tv, whatever... but I did it. I find that I have about as much tolerance for AFK macroers in the cantina while I'm dancing as I have for creature handlers that think poping a rancor on the dance floor is funny. I handle the cantina AFKers by assuming group leadership and kicking them from the group if the are in it, placing them on my ignore list to ensure that I never train them and skills I know, and making sure every customer in the place knows that they are AFK. Most customers don't care for AFKers at all. They aren't very entertaining... that's for sure! Anyhow, if you want to skill up AFK... do it somewhere private please.

I tried to make a point about AFK-macroing in the cantina today, and was shunned from my home of kadaara for it.

I'll admit, I AFK-macro sometimes as well, but I do it in the back of the theater or somewhere else where nobody ever goes anyways.

It is really annoying to have the cantina full of AFK-macro people with their stupid advertisments stealing away my business just 'cause they can't go off somewhere where they won't be in the way.

If anyone from Tempest reads this, do NOT tip any entertainers in the Kadaara cantina.

Almost ALL of them are AFK-macro users, and I feel they should get nothing in the way of Entertainment Healing exp. or tips for their laziness.

I know I don't want anyone to /tip me if I'm clearly AFK-macroing....

Yes this is slightly dangerous. The AFK Macroers are often friends with people who are not AFK Macroers, and note that most people (probably 90% of 'em) do NOT read these boards. The couple of times I have brought it up in the ridiculously AFKM-populated Moenia cantina on Naritus, people have had no idea why it is an issue. I have been clever enough to just ask what people think about it without being judgmental.

But here's the problem. 3 or 4 AFKMers are, when they bother to be at keyboard, nice and sweet people so everyone likes them. If I were to make a snide comment about their AFKMing, like you, I would probably find I was the one grumbled at by the group. I realized this on my first couple of times probing the issue (gently) so I have just left it alone. I found that the smaller cantinas tend to (1) not have a lot of AFKMers because there's hardly anyone there, and so the chance of tips/xp is lower, and (2) have people who are much more appreciative of their dancers and musicians. I.e. a smaller total number of people are there to tip us, but almost everyone who comes in tips something. The %-age of tipping in Moenia is probably 10%. In Keren (much smaller) I'd put it up around 65%.

Why is it like this? The reason is simple. The patrons of a small cantina know that some large fraction of the time there will be zero entertainers there, so when there are some, they are very grateful and appreciative. They need us and they know it. They show their appreciation with tips. Patrons of the larger cantinas where there are always some AFK Macro "bots" floating around, never experience a moment of the day when they can't get their BF healed, and so they don't really appreciate the entertainers.

The most refreshing thing about the Keren cantina when I started dancing there was, the few entertainers in town had "heard of" macros before, but had no idea how to use them to do more than one or two moves, and the concept of AFK Macroing was beyond them. When they went AFK, their tradition was to stop dancing/playing and take a /seat. LOL. What a difference.

In the end, I have started spending like 3/4 of my time in Keren. I have friends in Moenia and I don't want to totally abandon it, but smaller/less crowded/AFKMer free (mostly) just suits me better.

Hi, my name is Navi and I am ....... an AFK macro-er.

Actually I just started to do this. I did at the keyboard macros without going AFK all the way through Music Knowledge 1. I only get to play at the keyboard for about 2 hours a day during the week. Weekends are right out. The exp necessary to move on after MK1 are so high, that it will take me till Xmas to reach master. I, however will not play AFK in the main room of the cantina. I find it to be rude. I am not trying to judge those that do, but I would like to see the main room populated by the people that are there to play their character. This would, in my estimation, make the cantina a more desired place to be. I think that if people who have sustained wounds knew that they were going to a welcoming environment full of chatter and fellowship, they would be more inclined to tip. This is of course based on tips being something that is earned, not expected. There are too many cantinas full of AFK characters that spew out "dont forget to tip" and the like. This ruins the cantina atmosphere. The worst I have seen is a mouse droid named dont-forget-to-tip buzzing about the main room floor. With all that being said, I will go to the far back room of the cantina and go AFK. I do not bother anyone there and do not take away from the experience. I also do not gain healing exp, it gives me an incentive to be at the keyboard in the main room enjoying the people that come in and want to talk.

The real problem with the afk grinders is the server cap. There are only a certain number of connections allowed per server, and that includes the all-night macro people. Whenever my server is full I cant help but think "There's probably 50 people online that have been afk for 8 hours straight.."
