As I recall in beta they were supposed to be power ups to items that had sockets in them.

You know when you get a story to tell, but there's an awful lot to cover so it's difficult to know where to start and what to include? Well GEMS is one of them. So instead of procrastinating I'll just launch right into it.

Ok, here's the beginning. SWG is released as some players decide to take the entertainer profession. Some of these people ended up/started in Kaadara on Naboo. So time went by and they got to know each other, the one-shot entertainers came and went, the AFK macro-whores died, the suck-it-and-see folk didn't suck that long - and they persevered. Eventually, despite the odds they became Masters in their entertainment of choice, either Dancer or Musician.

And this is where GEMS comes into it.

GEMS is a dreamchild of a player (not a dancer or musician, although he does 'play' on occasion) who frequented the cantina in Kaadara and got to know the regular entertainers in there. He saw the ones who were there regular and working to keep the patrons happy (not your AFK macro whores or the bra-and-knickers-and-I'll-get-tips dancers). Time went by and he saw those same entertainers reach their goals through working at their class to achieve, one-by-one, Master status.

So he goes out and get's himself a big house, furnishes it with lot's of good chairs and tables and the like, and basically turns it into a huge nightclub. He then goes and gets a master tailor to make crested necklaces of varying colours (dependant on the colour he associates with the various entertainers - in my case I'm green - and to name those necklaces after the entertainer he knows). These necklaces then go on the wall as you enter the house so everyone knows which Master Dancer/Musician is honoured enough to have this accolade.

And not one of those Masters refused the invitation to perform there.

No more do I have to put up with punch emotes in the face, 1 credit tip spamming, pre-pubescent sex tells, offer of duels by novice marksmen (which I always win), groups with AFK macroers or dancers who think it's cool to strip to nothing, insults from people I don't even know, fights occuring while I'm trying to heal people, and one in eight people trying to tip me for my work.

GEMS is a nightclub to the west of Kaadara on the Eclipse server, named after those entertainers who persevered to achieve Master and we each have a 'gem' in the hallway named after us. It's a place where music, dance and enjoyment can be found, with healing, food and drink is served to those patrons who frequent it. All entertainers are of Master status and therefore requests for specific music/dances is not a problem (as we no longer have to grind our highest dance/tune to gain XP).

Most importantly, the entertainers who perform there are those who've been chosen for the committment, hard-work and dedication to their profession, contributing to the patrons who they entertained and ensuring they got not only a sterling performance but also a social aspect to the show and quality healing.

I'm so proud I've been chosen as a 'gem'.

First off, just to be clear, I am NOT the one who did all the work on Gems that Zerine was referring to. I am however part of the "management" as it were and as such I just wanted to say a few things.

I have seen alot of what entertainers have to put up with and I have watched the frustration of that trickle of exps ever so slowly building up towards the Master title. We have nothing but respect for the effort you have put forth and gratitude for the service you provide. In short, we are very proud of each and every Gem that has choosen to be a part of this ideal. It is an honor to have each of you with us and even more of an honor to hold each of your friendships.

Zerine, anyone who has known you for more than about five minutes knows that you are a gem...especially those novice marksmen

I love it!

I'm opening a Roleplaying Cantina in a week or so on the Bria Server. I really like your idea for the necklaces displaying the name of the Master Dancers associated with the cantina/nightclub. I hope you don't mind if I borrow it (tee hee)

I think that's so cool that you guys did that! And for a regular opening the club just for you guys? That totally rocks. I'm on my way to Master and want to open my own place. I hope it will be as good as yours! I too have made the best of friends in the cantina. There's really no need to go anywhere else.

Thanks for the great post!

Heh, Ok Sirgleno this is my definition of an AFK whore (as far as danicing goes).

They get in a group of entertainers at the cantina then go AFK while running a never-ending macro. While the rest of the entertianers are doing just that, entertaining (chatting, socialising, changing routines etc) these 'whores' are gaining both heal and dance xp which in enchanced by the rest of the group, by doing nothing.

Be warned, if I'm running an entertainer group in a cantina and I see this, the whore is immediately kicked to earn their own xp (eg not much). Either PLAY the profession or don't, but don't expect a free meal ticket off those who work at it.

Not to mention taking up spammy space, making it hard to pick someone's name out of a crowd of AFK tags bobbing about.

Question...which *planet* is this wonderful club on? I've heard that city's name before, but I haven't imprinted my heel on the soil of any planet with a city named that.

For those of you who are interested,

the Gems cantina and lounge is located on the Eclipse server, planet Naboo about 1500m west/south west of Kaadara along the beach.

It's a friendly little spot outside of the hassles of town where mission seekers, explorers, and entertainers alike can come to rest, recooperate, and enjoy themselves. We have fireworks displays each night (around 1:30am EST) provided by Argental Brawlings. There is also a spice merchant on staff making a wide variety of spices. Refreshments will be made available in the near future, but for the time being there is a vendor in house. And another god thing about a place like Gems is that medics/doctors can tend to your wounds without having to locate a med center or hospital.

Oh, and for the record, I am the creator and one of the founding owners of Gems. But that's not to say that I am the sole owner. Gems is owned and operated by myself, a handful of friends, and ofcourse the Gems who dance and entertain there frequently.

Ok, now I'm embaressed. I live on Naboo, and I didn't recognize the name of the town.

Do you have a doghouse I can go dance in?
