Thread: PLEASE take long dance/music macros out of the game!
The most anyone needs is 10 minutes...max! Macroing and AFKing are ruining our image. Not to mention those same people are leeching experience. I am so fed up with it. As group leader in Coronet the other day I kicked afkers out who hadnt come back for over an hour. The other members were a bit mad at me but I was the one staying at the keyboard inviting people, talking, making the cantina more than an NPC palace.
I am a Master Dancer and have Never went afk more than 5 minutes. There is no need to. I wont group afk people or long macroers. This has ruined our respectability. Why does anyone even play if they arent going to be there?
Im not the only one who feels this way. Please lets get rid of this. If you want to play an entertainer PLAY an entertainer....dont go afk for hours and expect people who really are entertaining to be happy.
Why?
How are they ruining your image? How are they "leeching" XP? More people in a group actually only increases the experience that everyone in the group gets. Why does it ruin your respectability if someone is particularly bad at something. Are there other people on your server who are annoying? Does this mean everyone on your server is annoying?
C'mon people, the histrionic generalizations about the impact of other people on this profession is appalling. People need to get their facts straight about the impact of an AFK/Macro user to a group and people need to think pretty hard about why the feel like their gaming method is so superior to someone else.
If you can't make a reputation for yourself by being a good dancer -- why blame other people for that?
I completely agree that AFK macro's are taking from our profession. Visiting players often make comments about AFK performers doing a macro and I get tested by people to see if I am really there.
Some of the first Master elite classes out there were dancer and musician because of AFK macros. Most people who play know thisalso, believing us to be cheap, lazy and of little value. This attitude lowers interaction toward us, respect, our enjoyment of the game, and of course tips. My RL friend that I play with refuses to tip anyone in the cantina without evidence that they are working for money. He isn't alone in his belief.
It's already hard for us to squeeze a living out of tips, with no respect it's impossible. Entertainers have no choice but to take a combat profession and pitifully try to complete missions. We generally have the lowest health stats in the game making the process even more so complex.
Additionally, the personal annoyance at AFK players is high. As a performer, it is fun to make formations of dancers and musicians for pleasing appearance. We like this and it's fun for us. AFK people often stand in ways that make the rest of us look disorganized and bumbling. It's a show! We want to look good.
Take the long macro ability out of the game, please!
If you take the time to get to know the people NOT CUSTOMERS!!!! that come into the canting with more then a /wink or /greet everyone that comes thru the door people will know that your 1. not only not afk but are interested in what brought them there and how tehy are doing. My entertainer does not greet anyone does not ask for tips does nothing other then dance and play music to attract people, if i see someone thats badly wounded i ask them hwo they got that way. in other words i talk to them and get to know them. i have people that bring the bf and wound from other planets to get healed in our local cantina because they know i care about them and im not afk. Now for part 2.. did i use afk macros? yes you bet your sweet patooty i did. why because i could and because lvling does nothing but help others MORE!!! its not like im doing this for me im doing it for the people that come in to get healed heres another thing (for the poster) you better start chatting with all your group members ever 5-10 secs and if they dont answer boot them cause DUH!! you can go afk without having an afk sign hang over your head. One last thing before i leave you. Dont group anymore its the same as macroing (getting xp for doing nothing) cause in a group you get the xp from everyone not just you.
Is it the same? How many successful RL musical entertainers have you seen where the whole act is one person? Not many, if any, I can tell you. For every Eminem or Madonna, there's a gang backing them up with instruments and vocals.
There's nothing wrong with grouping IMO, it makes sense. And since lots of people prefer not to tip, it's the only thing some of us have going.
Argh... some don't want AFK macro, yet another half (including myself) wants it!
Tough to please... I say, though, Never Nerf it!

OMG, some people are treating this game like Real Life, it's sad!
I am sorry AFK Macroers do these things to you, but once I have heard the compliants recently, I AFK in a corner now, WITH respect to your foolish (yes it's foolish, I think personally) wishes.
Now, I have changed, but I can't change what everyone else does, BUT hey don't get all of us in trouble just some people does it!
Yes, that is exactly what you are doing, trying to nerf AFK Macroing for everyone, including those of play quietly in a corner now.
It's Ridiculous!
Now, I may come off as very strong about this issue, and seems like I am crazy about this (maybe I am), but underneath I am a VERY Nice person! I LISTEN, which I did and do things that won't annoy the people.
And, I am very nice to band mates, and patrons, no doubt. AndI certainly don't generalize, or hate onAFK Macroers. Why should what they do, be any of my business?
Trying to put on good show, want to good look < Treating AFK macroers without hate
This is a Game, a social game maybe, but nevertheless still NOT a way of life.
Itis NOT worth getting rid ofAFK Macroing!
Yes you have the right AFK macro and we that don't like it have the right to say it stinks. Becourse it does, I am not sure why you would want to be AFK in the first place. I just made Novice dancer and I had good fun all the way. From that first dance step I took I been getting very good responses from the ones visiting us in the cantinas. And if I don't like a dance I try and figues out how to make it look the best.. What I don't understand is what the people that isn't even interested in seing there char evolve to become a dancer/entertainer. What fun are they going to get out of a char that is Master of a skill they don't know the first thing about? Okay you can do some more moves, okay you get flashy bombs and whatnot. But it is still you that need to get the people to wake up and be interested in what you do.
Why, in General
I AFK macro mostly because I don't have much time to play it live to satisfy my monthly fee. It will take 2 months to get it( Yes Too long). I am a multi-profession too,one of them is Artisan co-major, and the Scout/Marksmen minor profession. So whenever I get to play 1-3 hours liveabout daily, don't bet I will always be at Cantina chilling.
I AFK macro mainlyfor the XP to get to MM, in a shorter time. After I reach that status, I won't anymore! No point to, cuz there is no more need to raise my XP anymore.
However, make NO MISTAKE.ILOVE this game, and theMusician Profession,I want to play the drums/Nalagronone day, that would be coolestbutI will get to play it whenever I have the time. However, like I said, it's not a lottime to gain XP fast.
It's really just, I can't stand 2 months wait, to be a master musician!! I want to be playing the game live 10 hrs a day, but I can't! I got a life, or somewhat of a life still.
You know, I will also find a second job soon, because the current job I have now, is not making too much income even though I do 40 hrs a week. Plus, going to Graduates school so I imagine time will get thinner.
I won't get social, what's the point?
I strongly hope to socialize better, in a future whenever I have plenty of time.
U are probably thinking I haven't meeta lot people, if so you are wrong... I have spend a lot of time playing live too, so I am NOT always AFK.
I PLAN to get on for 1-3 hours day to Rock/Socialize AFK/Live Combo, after I reach Master Musician. I won't need to AFK for XP anymore, so I would be happy to Focus on socializing and groove!
By that time, I'd be happy to provide Real entertainment (Nalagron, Ommi Box) not just some boring fizzz, Kloo Korn!

I'm glad someone on the pro-AFK-macroing is stepping forward. Helps me understand why people do so.
To me, some of the reasons you mention are actually sucking the fun out of the profession. For instance...when you're finally able to play a new instrument or song, it means less to you than it does to someone who sat at their computer earning it.
The frustration of the people against AFK-macroing stems from the fact that those who do it (and those who aren't even in the profession) see the profession as some "easy" thing to do. It's not. At least, if you're at your computer actually playing.
That's where it hurts. Because of you (not you personally, but AFK-macroers in general), those of us who spent the time and effort are not given the recognition and respect we deserve.
That's why I believe AFK macroing should be subdued. It is too easy to circumvent months of play time. It should absolutely be difficult to get--that's the only thing that makes it rewarding to do so. Master Musician should be a title reserved for the people who endured, not the people who don't even play!
Anyway, that's where I'm comin' from. ![]()
