Thread: Should i be stoped!!??
I just want some people to hear my point of veiw on AFK entertaining
I made this char to supply people in cities with no entertainers with an entertainer i AFK macro all the time when im asleep for their benifit not mine i dont ask for tip but i still receive them which then goes into learning new skills and searching for more places that need me....................But then i get a email saying alot of extremly mean stuff.........doesnt matter tho he most likly had a bad day................I thought i was helping the city by making this char and placing in this entertainerless city??
if i cant AFK entertainer my char will most likly me deleted and i think we will loose 70% of the entertainers out there right now because think about it for every 10 entertainers 3 are actualy on so making AFK entertaining impossible will then make BF and Mind wounds pile up on everyone and theyll all be shouting let entertainers AFK again
or they will scrap the BF and Mind wound healing all together
just my opinion
So you mean real entertainers will be more important?! God no, nerf the real entertainers! They should REQUIRE you to be AFK to perform!

Exactly...
Maybe they wouldn't treat the real entertainers like crap...
and just because theres no one performing at 7 am in the morning before you go to school or work doesn't mean someone else doesn't log in 30 minutes later and have to stare at your zombie body for the better part of their play time. Its pretty hard to ignore you.
Wemi pretty much summed it up...yes go ahead and nerf me... They never actually expected anyone to PLAY an entertainer did they?
Seriously, good riddance to those 70% of the entertainers. I don't think it's that bad though.. I suspect a lot of people became entertainer bots simply because of the "if you can't beat them join them". I think getting rid of AFK entertainers will cause the class to be played a lot more.
I used to try to go to out of the way places. I brought friends so we wouldn't be bored.
Several hours there and we got not enough tips to even cover the cost of the flight there. On top of that, people treated us rudely. So, no more out of the way places for me, and I'll continue the crusade against AFK entertainers. Maybe people will learn respect if they actually have to treat people nice to get healed.

No much to lose. Let them go. They weren't playing in the first place. The rest will be enough to heal. And if they are appreciated, they will come out to the lonely cities. But why travel there when I'm not sure my tips for the evening will even cover the travel costs ?
Sunday this entertainer showed his colors, I'm going to bed but i'm leaving me logged in, this started a discussion in the band about AFK entertaining. During the discussion a dancer joined us, she came all the way from Naboo and she had the same opinion on AFK entertainers and she left pretty quick too, leaving me with another dancer and the AFK musician.
Monday the AFK entertainer was still there, he was at work and sometimes he checked in and there was a medic from his guild who was AFK healing him around the clock.
I invited him again into the group, with 2 other musicians who also went AFK but they didn't flourish at all, so I got upset, I was stuck playing Starwars 1 on my mandoviol, which actually sounds good, but the others totally drowned out my sound and no matter which riff's I played I could hardly hear my own music, so I started to talk to them which was when I realised that had gone AFK, so I upped the songs so I could do my profession, which is entertaining, but I was really really annoyed at that point. I felt completely useless in the cantina where I spent 3 weeks entertaining fighters and getting to know everyone.
Last night I was very close to jumping ship and pick up my act and move to another planet, I logged in and I just walked around town alittle, when I saw some people I knew enter the cantina I followed them, took out my mandoviol and started playing but they just kept watching the AFK musician, I felt so useless until I saw a familiar face which I winked at and started to play for him. He ran out halfway my song and I did a /think Why do I even bother ? This started another conversation and I told him flat out that I was planning on leaving there, he asked why and I explained it as best as I could. He just wished me luck, don't think he cared much he can get his healing anyway.
At that point I just thought screw everything and I walked into the side-room and stood among the NPC band, making rude remarks in spatial chat about this NPC band being more interactive then the AFK musician who was standing right in front of the steps in the cantina. I stood there for about 45 minutes, playing songs, shouting that I'd train entertainers for free. The people that walked in didn't even ask why I was hiding myself in a side room, they just started listening, a doctor came to heal me, a dancer came to dance while I played music and after a while the dancer said she was moving to the front of the cantina and I just followed her.
Still upset, I played the occasional song and still people would listen to the AFK entertainer even though I had my Master Entertainer title on and I was playing ceremonial on my mandoviol, so I just started to educate the dancer in spatial chat. About how little people know about entertainment, that they listen to someone playing a lower song when there's a master who can heal them faster, I sometimes just stopped playing while explaining things to her, I didn't care at all what the patrons thought of me at that point. Every time someone walked in, I would start playing and after a while I noticed people were catching on and started to listen to me.
After a while I walked to the bazaar, leaving them with the AFK musician, and there were fighters gathering there for a hunting trip, so I just went up to them and said I was bored and they asked if I wanted to come with them on the hunt and I continued to explain that I was bored because there's nobody to interact with in the cantina, patrons walking in and start listening to the bot, etc. I ended up playing at the bazaar for 30 minutes, I really didn't care anymore about mos eisley.
When a friend of mine came online I told him what happened and he took me to my favorite tailor and I had fun looking at clothes, choosing colors, trying dresses in different colors and playing music while he was crafting.
Around this time the AFK musician sent me a tell that he needed training and I told him I was at my tailor, I knew he wanted me to make him master so I told him I'd be there later. He kept messaging me, I think he was getting alittle annoyed that I stopped responding to him, he just wanted me to train him because I think he could go back to his guild.
When I was done at the tailor I went back to the cantina and one of my dancer friends was there, it was late, past 1am, and I really wasn't having fun anymore. I made him master entertainer and he ran out the cantina, don't remember if he thanked me or not, I was just glad he left. I set myself dancing popular 2, said goodnight to everyone and logged out and went to bed, I didn't sleep very well and now I'm writing all this and I hope I'll feel better and enjoy entertaining at Mos Eisley again when I login tonight, but I'm not sure about that.
I guess I'll just have to see how my regular cantina is tonight, if there's more AFK bots there then my time in Mos Eisley is really over, even though I made friends with most entertainers in the area, some allready told me that I cannot leave because they would have no friends left and that's the only reason I stayed in the area, but I am no longer having fun there, some fighters are used to the AFK bot and treat me the same way even though I'm always there, I made 1000 credits in tips last night. That came from the person I talked with after I did /think Why do I even bother ?
I for one will be very happy if they get rid of that 70% of the entertaining bots, you are less interactive then the NPC's playing in the cantina, atleast they applaud me when I stop entertaining.
Maybe then we entertainers can have fun again because when we see another entertainer we don't have to wonder, or ask, is he a entertainer or is he a healing bot that always whines about not getting tipped doing stupid emotes while being at work, school or sleeping.
I know most of the entertainers and no matter how nice the AFK bots are when they are AT keyboard, they will never ever end up on my friends list, unlike some other entertainers who are really bad at it but atleast they try and always respond when I ask them something. If I ever open a cantina of my own or start a band/group then they can be sure that they are not welcome.
Excuse the long post, this topic is really starting to get to me, I guess I just get too involved in a game
I'm sure others feel the same way about their character.

just my opinion
I wrote this in an other thread andquote myself:
"When Iwriteabout my view, then I have to say, that the afk dancer In the outer places hurted me most.
I normaly travel from one outer place to the other, to find cantinas, where Iam needed like Taike, Lok, Talus, Keren, Rori ... .
If there an afk dancer /musican stands, I made my way in vain. Now as a masterdancer its not such a big pain, at least I can earn some money there and heal faster then the afk dancer. Anyhow I feel useless there, if the audience can get the healing free and anytimeit wants.
But for me it was very sore as a novice dancer, when I traveled to Lok, and the cantina was occupied by an high skilled afk dancer "aiding" the community. Sometimes I had to travel to 3 or 4different planets and different towns there, only to find a place to dance without such a selfless helper."

I used to log in early mornings to help people out in the cantina's. You know, the late-nighters. But now that there are AFKentertainers there's no point in my being there. In fact, there's no point in me being an entertainer so those are the skills I'm currently giving up as I progress in a different class.
The AFK people are griefers and they've ruined the entertainer aspect of the game. Should you be "stoped?" No, not anymore. There's no point. You've done your damage, you've ruined the game for many people, you've made a profession completely useless. You've done your job as a griefer and you've won. I hope you feel proud of yourself. You can strut around now telling your chums that you've helped destroy something that other people liked.

Actually, if SWG really wants to help out a city, it would provide the following:
- A cantina with an AFK entertainer or mind-healing bot.
- A cantina with an AFK dancer and musician or a mind buff bot.
- A med center with free wound healing.
- A med center with free stat buffs.
- A weaponsmith vendor that gives you a free weapon of your choice.
- An armorsmith vendor that gives you the armor piece of your choice.
- A slicer vendor that slices those items the way you want.
- A creature handler pen that gives you any animal you want to tame.
- A vendor that sells buttons that kill any NPC you like at the press of a button.
By AFK entertaining, you remove one risk from the game. You remove the need for adventurers to ensure that entertainers want to populate the cantinas of these cities. Despite the issues I face, I still perform in out-of-the-way cantinas for the same reasons you do. But I am actually there, and I talk with the people who straggle in. If others can be convinced to feel the way I do (and ensuring that they can have an enjoyable experience is a great first step), then they will be more motivated to fly out to Lok and Endor and perform for the hunting parties there.
But if you AFK entertain, then the patrons do not have the motivation to seek out their own entertainer. Thus, the entire entertainer profession is affected, and the entertainers see no reason to travel outside of crowded cities. And that's a pity, because there is a lot of fun on those other planets.
People will use an AFK Ent if they dont want to have to tip (orwant to avoid the guilt trip of not tipping) so you can judge the kind of people your dealing with right there.
To me AFKers are just a different form of grinder, I dont buy the 'I'm providing a service' argument, I just see someone who wants to get as much xp as quickly as possible without having to put the actual 'player time' in. What I dont understand is what these players do once they 'cap' if they cant be bothered with the work needed to get there 'one could argue there is less to do at that point'
