Thread: If there was an RP Server, would most Ents play there?

I might, but it would have to have pretty stringent rules against OOC and leet speak outside of the appropriate channels. The CSRs would have to bequite vigilent on monitoring it. Unfortunatley, given the track record of the CS staff I doubt they would be as vigilant asthey would need to be. In addition my girlfriend/friends that would come along with me. Otherwise it would not be worth it.

Another thing would be that Jedi are not allowed on the server. I would argue the fact that as a matter of canon they should not be allowed on an RP server. However, that would lead to PvP folk (wholoathe RP and sometimes go out of their way to hurt an RP atmosphere)running to the server to avoid Jedi. So, I suppose we would have to limit PvP as well, perhaps in some arenas or battle grounds.

For all it's problems I like Shadowfire and the offer of a dedicated RP server wouldn't get me to abandon the friendships I've forged there.

I might, possibly, try making up a new character on one. On the other hand I am not at all sure it would be an entertainer (I already have one who is a double master, so, been there/done that). However, the main reason I still play the game despite my dislike of the CU and dis-satisfaction with most of the development process has been the friendships I have on my server. Unless everyone in my guild moved over, or at least a bunch of them, I am not sure how much I would bother to play on a new server, RP-based or not.

This was something that had to go in at launch, I'm afraid. Now, it's too late. Any RPer who is still playing the game after 2 years of minimal RP support from the devs, is likely to already have a network of friends on his or her "home" server. RPers tend to find each other -- I'm in a roleplay guild on Naritus. There are about 60 of us. I would not be surprised if we are the only 60 RPers on the entire server (well OK, I know of a handful more, but not many). Again, though, as few as we are, they're my friends now... I'm not sure I'd leave a bunch of roleplaying friends I have had for a year and more, to go to a server where people are strangers whether they RP more or not. You could say, "Well it's not leaving, since you can keep the old character," but it kind of is, seeing as how I can't simultaneously play both toons, and seeing as how, if the RP server were going to hold my attention at all, it'd mean drastically reduced login times on my current server.

I wish they'd made a roleplay server to start with... but I fear the ship has already sailed on this one.

I have tried making characters for RP purposes on other servers, but I just feel very strange without my Eclipse friends. I'm sad to say I wouldn't, unless there were a character copy.

I agree. I recently started a character on Kettemoor after meeting many of the playes at the Fan Fest. I'm having more fun over there with the huge amount of roleplay that I find...way more than my 2 year old toon on Gorath. I don't hardly even like logging into my old server. I only do for the people.

I would make a character on a dedicated RP server.

I have heard Starsider to be a great roleplaying server.

Recently I have made strides on Bloodfin with roleplaying. We even got our visit from darth vader. That was cool.

As far as a roleplaying server? I think that would steal from the other servers, much like a no jedi server would appeal to all the jedi haters.

I don't know that the Devs would ever be interested in setting one up. In the past, they always said no. The game has changed a lot though... and that other game we don't mention here has been pretty successful with how they offer the three server types: normal/PvP/RP... Scip and I were talking about it today so I started wondering...

If the Devs did decide to try to offer an RP server, who here would play on it?

I would start a new char there, but I play multiples now anyway, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal for me. I would also start a new char if the devs did a pvp server, or a no jedi server, or a jedi as starter prof server, or a server with all blue shoes... um, I'm pretty open to theme servers.

Everybody who has mentioned Starsider is right of course. That's my home server and the one I still love best. When I first started traveling to different servers, I had a rude awakening that SS's spatial was not the norm elsewhere. I didn't know how spoiled I was, lol.

Yes, Starsider has a great RP atmosphere. My first character was created on SS simply because it was the unofficial RP server.

I had never been in a game with a significant RP presence. I had seen spots here and there in other games and had a lot of friends in other games that considered themselves role players, but they moved from ic and ooc easily.

Starsider was honestly a complete shock for me at first, lol. I had no idea that many players of that many different types (crafter, pvpers, pve combatants) could actually stay in char or at least immersion friendly most of the time. It was awesome! I wasn't even participating in any story lines, I just was blown away that anywhere I went and anyone I spoke with said things just as they should.

It's pretty much ruined me from any other game world, it made this one seem so real. Now, I'm not a strong role player. I don't spend time on creating my girls' back story and I don't think I ever will. I am an immersion junky though. So, for that reason I'd play on an RP server. SS taught me to lovethe idea so much that I'm still always sort of horrified for my first few minutes on Ahazi or one of the other big servers where ooc is the spatial norm.

It would be interetsing and likely alot of fun, but so very very fragile. There are too many leet jerks in the world that live to grief the RP environment. I doubt SOE would have it in them to do what would need doing in terms of CSR enforcement to keep an RP server from falling victim to nasty mouthed kids with blasters. I'm a cynic, though when it comes to these things.
