Thread: If there was an RP Server, would most Ents play there?

I'm a cynic when it comes to anything in this game that would be enforced by goodwill

Plus people have different ideas of RP -- for example, many of those entertainers licking each other feel like they're RPing lesbians (an aside: this is one of my numerous pet peeves. I personally find it disgusting that it's okay to behave like that and just use the "we're RP lesbians!" excuse. NONE of the RL lesbians I've met have sat around in public licking each other for fun and it makes me angry to the extreme that it's okay to portray the demographic this way.)

So how would you define RP? Is it RP if you spam /lick on your "girlfriend" while you talk about you and your husbands' RL dinner plans? There'd have to be rules and a definition of what was expected, and all that.

They shoulda done it at launch though, I think things would have been much happier overall.

I switched from Bloodfin to Scylla last year, because I was finding much more rp and many less buf-bots on Scylla at that point. There has been a bit of a renaissance on B'fin for rp, but it seems to me that it's where you find it and a good rp guild is the best bet. I tried making a character on Kettemore several times, I never found much more there than on any other server

/shrug

I wish there were more rp everywhere, but I agree that the l33t would see it as an 'easy pickings' option and flood it (kinda like they didBloodfin in the holo-craze) I love my friends on Scylla, and still visit Bloodfin, I wouldn't change again now unless they all quit and I didn't.

I started a character on Starsider for just that reason. Even standing outside the Mos Eisley cantina and listening in is a blast! I have not tried Kettemoor yet.

Starsider is where I call home, and simply because it's like it's own little Star Wars universe.

Even though it's the "unofficial" RP server, it's pretty much solid RP. Most people stay "in-character" in Spatial. Very rarely do you see anything that's totally immersion breaking.

I've never been really big on creating a gigantic and elaborate background story for my characters. I think some people get a bit too hung up on that aspect of RP. Being "in character" is surprisingly easy, you just don't talk about stuff going on in real life in Spatial, or you put some brackets (( )) or [ ] or something around what you say, and people don't think a thing of it.

I think the best part of roleplaying is the atmosphere. You end up really feeling like you're in a different world, and the stuff people come up with is funny sometimes.

The single biggest problem I have with roleplay is that some folks think it's an acceptable way to be some massive jerk or "roleplay" some horrid thing like being a rapist or something. If they're a total jerk, they say "I'm just RP'ing, chill out!" but they get too personal, and you know they havea grudge or some issues...but they pull out the RP card.

All in all, I love Starsider, and I'm glad it's where I ended up playing. It makes the game really interesting.
