Entertainer Archive
Thread: The largest change in Entertainer history, and where is our dev communication?
We will, for an unspecified period of time, have no "useful" abilities beyond Novice Entertainer.
Our skill trees have been altered and even mutilated in some cases, such as Musician's 0/0/4/0 line.
I'm just curious why we did not have an "In Concept," "In Development," or "In Testing" focus thread devoted to us. The Combat Upgrade had multitudes. The Slicing Upgrade had several. Developer communication, while still sporadic, was present in more than a cursory sense.
It is my birthday today, so I am wondering if maybe the devs will shine down upon my countenance with some sort of help. I would love to just have one thread started by a dev, monitored by a dev, and filled with responses by a dev where we could discuss the future of our professions. While we only encompass four out of three dozen professions, we have an important place in SWG. Or could, if given the tools to do so.
I have pm'ed, posted, and asked Tiggs in Live Chat several times for this but with no response. To be honest, at this point I have very little faith that beyond the "Non-Combat Buff Suggestions" thread, that we are even being listened to.
I do not think it unreasonable to ask for the same consideration as other professions receiving large-scale changes.
Bye bye for now.
A lot of us have been defining ourselves as a healing profession for a long time now. We can finally attempt to move beyond that into a playstyle of our own. Inspirations are the same regardless of skill, aside from the speed gained by higher levels of Entertainer, Musician, and Dancer. However, the new inspirations should be coming soon and will give even more benefits to the PerformanceElites. They are in development right now. Hopefully after the new inspirations are introduced, the skilltree reshuffles will be more palatable. I'd wanted a different setup than what they ultimately went with, but this is what got chosen.
I know its not much comfort, and you've heard it a hundred times before, but these forums are actively monitored by Devs, as the Inspiration idea thread in the Dance forums indicates.

Thank you for responding.
I understand that many defined their playstyle as a healing one, but to be honest, that change does not bother me at all.
What I was addressing with this post is the last paragraph you wrote. One post in that one thread does NOT indicate that they actively monitor us. Having focus threads or active dialogues with players about a few things would. Things like:
Why we had BF removed at this point, if it really is of such little consequence in the devs' minds. Why not leave it in so we have more than one active ability before the next round of additions is included.
Why Julio Torres told Wired.com we have ten songs done, yet at this time when we have nothing to do but play and dance, they could not be given to us as SOME sort of comfort. Swing is nice. Nine more of its caliber would have been great.
Why Musicians have nothing to match Props.
Why in the level-centric nature of the CU, level considerations could not be made for hybrid characters.
Things like that.
I sound demanding, I know. I do not mean to, really. I just have so much trouble finding reasons to log in lately, and I really do not want SOE to lose a customer in me. I love entertaining for the sake of the music, but when I have my favorite profession neutered with nothing but a single post saying, "More is coming, we promise," it is frustrating.
I did miss that other post, that was my mistake.
Two posts do not a happy Leilani make, though.
I understand they are active in putting together our inspirations now. I would be much more understanding had they not removed battle fatigue until they had at least a segment of our new inspirations available.
I would be even more understanding had we seen the improvement within 30 days that Tiggs asked for our patience on on April 27th. It has now been nearly three months since the CU went live, and our huge bug has not been fixed yet, unless the latest TC build has removed it from our worry sheet.
I understand this is not merely an Entertainer issue I am having a minor conniption about, it is currently to the point where I don't even check the dev tracker most days I read the forums. It just is so empty of actual information on the game's progress and where the devs' current direction is. I know it is not the developers' jobs to give us information hand over hand, but it IS Community Relations' job to...well, to relate to the community.
I think we could all do with a little more relating. Especially since the number of Community Relations jobs for SWG has tripled in the last 8 months. I feel more out of the loop than ever.
There should have been "In Concept" or round table discussions about this. When they were planning on taking TEFs out of the game they did this. Why not when they decided to take BF out?
Even if they had decided it "had to be done" they could at least have made a new thread about it, and taken questions and comments for a few days (and actually responded instead of doing drive-bys), so everyone could be clear on where we are and where we are going.
But I haven't seen a good roundtable or in concept discussion in months, on anything of consequence. I can only conclude that the current dev team and administration no longer really values player feedback, as they once did.

Yeah, I logged in for the first time right after the server came up with the patch and he was on. When I logged in later he appeared again for a little bit & (from what I hear) coming back yet again later in the evening. He's been one busy Dev.
/agree Panthu Cancers ARE the coolest! *has a birthday coming up soon too*
