Thread: Entertainers must be Bards!
A LOT of Entertainers don't want a combat role.
I know that some do, but putting us into combat roles will make people assume that that's our place...which could lead to a less than pleasant cantina of people yelling at Entertainers to come with their group, to kill some stuff.
The Devs have said that they don't want Ents to be bards, and they're working to stick with that concept.
I do, however, think we should gain some kind of "escape" skill that negates aggro somehow - for travelling around. Cannot be applied to anyone with Novice Brawler or Marksman.

The only way to make entertainers playable is to convert them to bards. Short-time combat bufs, root/snare-songs etc.will help a lot and make profession useful. And you can perform in cantinas too!!! Everybody will be happy.
In a fantasy MMO you can justify having music/dance do this via magic... however in a system where music/dance operate under the same rules as they would in the real world buffs/effects of this nature cannot be explained/justified.

Woooah, I love that idea!
Absolutely not. I've played bards in many other games, and I've loved it. However, I do not pay $15 a month to play a bard, I pay $15 a month to play an entertainer. It is near impossible to entertain or perform while trying toroot a krayt. I play an entertainer because I join putting together a creative performance. If entertainers were to become bards there would be no way to do such a thing. In your opion, a large group ofplayers whining at us to join them in a combat group is better than a small group of real patrons who appreciate the work that is put into entertaining. I strongly dissagree with you there! I would get far much more enjoymentout of a couple of players who appreciate being entertained and socailized with rather than a dozen players shouting at me "Combat Group!". Sure, if we were bards there might be more players coming into the cantina, but that would be a mute point being as they would have no desire to be entertained, and it would be near impossible to give them this desire.

I dont use any doctors bufs, but I prefer to be in group with doc for heals. The same thing would be nice for entertainers - additional root/snare or debuff removing songs. And as I said everyone can still play his cantina roles.
So wait...
Because YOU do not use buffs, we should be turned into bards? This reads like, "Devs! Make the entertainer playstyle suit MY playstyle."
There are a lot of people in this game, not just you. Most entertainers have said over, and over again (and to this, at least, the devs have thankfully listened) that we do not want to be bards. It is not in-theme for the Star Wars universe (when did you EVER see a dancer using dancing "powers" in battle?) and it is not the role most of us want.
Go troll a combat profession forum or something, will you, and stop trolling ours?

Perhaps an alternative would be to create opportunities for the entertainers like they have for the MA and DE in the DeathWatch Bunker. Performing during combat to grant bonus or to apply a "state" to a target just doesn't really fit well in my opinion. However having an entertainer "coax" a clue or key to allow a group to either bypass a tough area or have access to something extra might work well. It's doubtful this option would result in random "/yell looking for entertainer to join DWB group " spam as I suspect these groups are much more likely to ask an entertainerthey already know through previous encounters.
But I think it's important that there be opportunities for both styles of entertainers. Those who joined the profession to have an active "healer" role are going to need something equally fulfilling as though who joined the profession to have an active "performance" role. If we only get activities that support one of these roles, the others will lose interest and move on.
I think it would be cool to have the type of thing you just proposed in the game.
I think that would probably cause some Entertainer tostart bugging the full-templatecombatants to take them to all the dangerous palces so they can do the side quests! I bet some of the combatants would rather enjoy the challenge/attention it would get them ![]()
Ok, first of all I have absolutely nothing against Bards. In all the games I have played, which had Bards as a playable class, they were always my favorites. Hell even my EQ2 main character is a Troubadour.
However, converting Entertainers into Bards would be a very bad move due to many reasons of which two I see as main. First of all, it wouldn’t fit the game at all. And second of all, this game already has a class which fulfills Bard’s role. They may be called Squad Leaders but essentially they are Bards, they have all the traditional roles usually associated with Bards.
Our class needs a LOT of help from Dev team, but “going Bard” would be a totally wrong direction in my opinion.

quick question . . . Master Dancer used to give combat bonuses to defense . . . havent checked in a while but . .are they still there? If it is . . this mod kinda puts entertainers in a combat view . . . which would indicate a change in CL ![]()
granted this has nothing to do with the pro/antin bard topic . . it is about combat mods for entertainers.
