I'm confused...

Is everyone just jumping on a bandwagon to be upset with the devs.

They got rid of bf, so there is no more healing bf via entertainment. Okay cool, I see how that is upsetting.

But, before you needed to have someone to watch you to get xp for the healing branch, for the prop use you don't need anyone to watch you. All the entertainers who are afk aren't in anyway at a loss. The entertainers, who are entertainers for the social aspect should be happy, now they have cool props.

I am an entertainer on an alt, and I really don't see what's so wrong. I keep seeing many threads about how people are feeling bad for the entertainers, but I don't fully understand. I have read the threads from start to finish. I really don't get what's so bad. If anything, this is good. The only thing I have mixed feelings about is removing bf since it was kind of a setback. Which made swg more difficult. Like a medic/dr couldn't heal as well if your bf was too high.

Oh well.. I'm not flaming anyone, so please be nice if you're going to respond to this. All I wanted to say, is I don't see what is so bad about removing bf.

Unless I miss my guess-- most people are miffed at the BF removal because it removed a reason why combat-oriented people would come to see us perform, to chat for a little bit, or to just rest while they healed.

Though that's exactly why buff-bots and AFK entertainers are a plague to the community, because they provided that same service without actually being there, which lessened the value of coming to see an entertainer.

But removing it altogether has removed whatever value that game element had left in it... and (musicians especially) nothing really to replace that dynamic between social entertainers and the combat-oriented players.

Without any reason for them to come see us, it makes many of the entertainers feel valueless, since they have nothing left of value to give back to the combat players.

Although sure, it's possible to provide value in other ways, joking around, singing songs, "private dances" , and the rest. And I don't think that, deep down, the musicians and dancers don't find personal value with the new song/dances and props... but it's just not something that anyone outside of the entertainer world finds much value in.

The outcry to the devs is to give us a place! Give us some value in the world... something meaningful to other players. This is why the hope is that the profession-specific buffs will be something valuable to other players, and will once again give people a reason for coming to see us (a reason that isn't pity. )

That's what the state of the entertainer seems to be all about... not that it was BF going away, just that it was our sole remaining reason to provide game-related value to non-entertainers. (And a 10% inspiration doesn't count. If that were 200%, then maybe people would find some value in it. <G>

I never once encountered any AFK player getting rich on healing BF. If anything, I encountered AFK players who were seen as clutter by patrons.

But I can tell you stories of how players tipped me many credits, and gave me much respect, because I could heal BF in a more amusing way.

But I can tell you about stories of AFK players getting rich off buffing authorizations. And also, I can tell you stories about how players seeking buffs saw me as clutter and in the way.

BF was my gateway into player events. Because when guild leaders came to the cantina I was performing at to heal their BF, they saw me doing what I did in the cantina, and wanted me to provide entertainment at their meetings, weddings, or parties.

But when buffs came around, they no longer wanted players who could put on a show. What they wanted was something that could facilitate my buffing functions; the very thing that I found rather demeaning to the true skills I had as an entertainer.

... Yes, yes they are. They're caught up on lossing something thatdidn't really evenhelp them anymore, and are thankless for gaining insperation and props.

We seriously didn't loss anything important even, we were a headache to the focus of all MMORPGs: The combat.Beingboth fighter and dancer here, even I thought BF was nothing but a royal pain... Insperation is much more convinient for me, better exp when I need it, and I can enjoy the music while the group leader is recruiting people.I can't believe they'd think people who enjoy entertainer company would stop coming because they no longer need BF healed, news flash, they stopped coming because the AFKers took over the cantinas. That's a different subject though...

Sorry for being overly rude here, I'm just ticked at what a dump the dancer forum has become with all the complaining, was hoping the same wasn't true for Ent and Musician... A fools hope, but whatever.

Meh, now I'm contributing to the ugly on the Ent forum... sorry

/agree.

An MMORPG should promote social interaction, many (including myslef) feel that we have lost the only interdependancy we had left. Props and dances are cool . . but without anyone to watch us . . . we are only entertaining ourselves and we might as well be playing a console game

Oh no. That's quite an old custom, dating back to the first day the game launched. Players have *always* been upset with the devs. Some for good reasons and some for really really stupid ones.

Being more supportive of the devs, in recent times, is actually a new fashion.

Actually it's not so much wanting to "dump on the devs" as having had a vision of what your character's role in the Galaxy was and then having that role completely removed. For those people who used entertaining to do something other than entertain, the new profession is severely lacking. Being told that things are coming soon doesn't do much to change the now. Perhaps we should have been more vocal about our style of entertainer from the start but I know that I for one took the fact that many of my skills were labelled as healing or buffing as a signal that that was myrole and I used the tools of my trade to fill that role. Now that roleis gone and I have been handed props as a replacement (yes we have the inspiration buff but thus far it's not filling the void left by the removal of mind wound healing, bf healing, and mind buffing). And whileprops are interesting they aren't really a replacement for what I feel I've lost. Those who feel their profession has been taken from them come to the forums looking for answers or solidarity or simply to cry in their beer and often the reception is less than welcoming. If I can be happy for those entertainers who are quite literally dancing in the streets is it really so hard for them to offer a word of comfort or solice to me in return? I'm sorry if that sounds bitter but I simply fail to see why it's so hard for a fellow entertainer to look at the former skill set and then look at the new skill set and understand why a portion of the community isn't happy.

With the recent changes the DEVs have made, entertainers have no function in the game and they no longer have any need to fix any of our bugs or issues as we have no effect on game play. This now puts us on the absolute lowest priority for development time, we can expect no further work to be done to support us.

I don't know guys. Last night I was entertaining in the Corellia and Dantooine cantina. I would say I saw about the same number of people.

With my combat player too, I typically go see an entertainer when I die for an inspiration buff or when my buff is low. So it's not going to lower visits to the cantina.

I don' t know guys, last nights visits weren't different (at least I didn't notice) but I will see how it goes over the next few days. Weekends are usually crazy, I should be able to get a better judgement.

Maybe I'm overestimating the inspiration buff, but I think everyone comes for it, even crafters... at least the people I know do.
